GS-1 Electronic Guitar

Before using this unit, carefully read “USING THE UNIT SAFELY” and “IMPORTANT NOTES” (the leaflet “USING THE UNIT SAFELY” and the Owner’s Manual). After reading, keep the document(s) where it will be available for immediate reference.

Panel Descriptions

jack. Using the AC adaptor lets you play without worrying about how much battery power is left.

• Make sure to use only the specified AC adaptor (PSA series), and connect it to an AC outlet of the correct voltage.
• If you connect the AC adaptor while the instrument is on, the AC adaptor supplies power instead of the batteries.
  2  USB port| Use this port when you need to update the software on GS-1. Connect to your computer using a  commercially available USB cable that supports USB 2.0.
  3  OUTPUT jack, SYNTH OUT jack| Connect this jack to your guitar amplifier or effect unit.
  Turning the power on/off The OUTPUT and SYNTH OUT jacks also switch the power on/off. When you plug a cable into the OUTPUT jack or SYNTH OUT jack, the power of this instrument turns on.
  Unplugging both jacks turns the power off. When you are not using the GS-1, pull the plugs out of the jacks.
• Before turning the unit on/off, always be sure to turn the volume down. Even with the volume turned down, you might hear some sound when switching the unit on/off. However, this is normal and does not indicate a malfunction.

This instrument still works as a normal guitar even if the power is disconnected or if you take out the batteries.

NOTE

Never remove the electronic circuit cover 14 . This instrument’s warranty does not include any damage you might cause by removing the cover.

• To prevent malfunction and equipment failure, always turn down the volume, and turn off all the units before making any connections.

Connecting Wirelessly (Pairing)

“Pairing” involves registering the MIDI device that you want to use with the GS-1 (making the two devices recognize each other). After pairing, you can transmit and receive MIDI data between the GS-1 and your MIDI device.

Connecting an EV-1-WL to the GS-1
By wirelessly connecting an EV-1-WL to this instrument, you can control the parameters of the GS-1 in real time.

1. Turn the GS-1 on.

2. Press the [Bluetooth] button on the GS-1.
   The Bluetooth indicator on the GS-1 blinks blue.

3. Select “GS-1” from the GS-1 Editor app.
   The Bluetooth indicator on the GS-1 stops blinking and remains lit when pairing is finished.

• If the EV-1-WL is already connected, “GS-1+” is shown on the GS-1 Editor.

Installing Batteries

Insert the batteries facing the correct way, as shown in the illustration.

• When turning the unit over, be careful so as to protect the buttons and knobs from damage. Also, handle the unit carefully; do not drop it.
• If you handle batteries improperly, you risk an explosion and fluid leakage. Make sure that you carefully observe all of the items related to batteries that are listed in “USING  THE UNIT SAFELY” and “IMPORTANT NOTES” (leaflet “USING THE UNIT SAFELY” and Owner’s Manual).

Restoring the Factory Default Settings (Factory Reset)

1. Turn the [MASTER VOLUME] and [SYNTH CTL] knobs to the MIN setting (counterclockwise all the way), the [SYNTH MEMORY] knob to the MAX setting (clockwise all the way), and flip the [MODE] switch to the SYNTH setting.

• Make sure that nothing is connected to the USB port. 2. While holding down the [Bluetooth] button, insert the plug into the OUTPUT jack.
  The instrument’s power turns on, and the POWER indicator blinks green.

  3. Press the [Bluetooth] button again.
     This executes the factory reset.

IMPORTANT NOTES

Power Supply: Use of Batteries

• Batteries should always be installed or replaced before connecting any other devices. This way, you can prevent malfunction and damage.
• If the batteries run extremely low, the sound may cut off, but this does not indicate a malfunction. If this occurs, please replace the batteries or use the AC adaptor (sold separately).
• If operating this unit on batteries, please use alkaline batteries.
• If operating this unit on batteries, please disconnect the AC adaptor from this unit.

Placement

• Do not allow lighting devices that normally are used while their light source is very close to the unit (such as a piano light), or powerful spotlights to shine upon the same area of the unit for extended periods of time. Excessive heat can deform or discolor the unit.

Repairs and Data

• Before sending the unit away for repairs, be sure to make a backup of the data stored within it; or you may prefer to write down the needed information. Although we will do our utmost to preserve the data stored in your unit when we carry out repairs, in some cases, such as when the memory section is physically damaged, restoration of the stored content may be impossible. Roland assumes no liability concerning the restoration of any stored content that has been lost.

Additional Precautions

• Any data stored within the unit can be lost as a result of equipment failure, incorrect operation, etc. To protect yourself against the irretrievable loss of data, try to make a  habit of creating regular backups of the data you’ve stored in the unit.

• When disposing of the packing carton or cushioning material in which this unit was packed, you must observe the waste disposal regulations that apply to your locality.
