Garmin 010-10997-07 Premium Heart Rate Monitor
Introduction
With our heart rate monitor, you can have a good workout. It wirelessly transmits your heart rate to a compatible device when worn across your chest during an activity, giving you immediate feedback on how hard you’re working. The heart rate module is located in the strap’s front portion, and the strap that wraps over your back is comfortable and sized-adjustable. The heart rate monitor is simple to use and maintain. Once it has been initially linked with your compatible device, it will constantly identify it. The strap’s cloth can be taken off and hand-washed as often as necessary.
WARNING: See an Important Safety and Product Information in the Garmin product box for product warnings and other important information.
Positioning the Heart Rate Monitor The heart rate monitor is on standby and ready to send data. Wear the heart rate monitor directly on your skin, just below your breastplate. It should be snug enough to stay in place during your run.
-
Snap one side of the strap to the heart rate monitor module.
-
Wet both electrodes on the back of the heart rate monitor strap to create a strong connection between your chest and the transmitter.
-
Wrap the strap around your chest, and connect the strap hook to the loop.
NOTE: The Garmin logo should be right-side up. -
Turn on the Garmin compatible product, and bring it within range (3 m) of the heart rate monitor.
NOTE: If the heart rate data is erratic or does not appear, you may have to tighten the strap on your chest or warm up for 5–10 minutes.
Pairing the Heart Rate Monitor Pairing is the connecting of ANT+™ wireless sensors, like your heart rate monitor, with a Garmin compatible product. After you pair the first time, your Garmin product automatically recognizes your heart rate monitor each time it is activated.
NOTE: The pairing instructions differ for each Garmin compatible product. See your owner’s manual.
LINKING TO FITNESS EQUIPMENT
ANT+ technology links your heart rate monitor to fitness equipment so you can view your heart rate on the equipment console. Look for the ANT+ Link Here logo on compatible fitness equipment. See www.garmin.com/antplus for more linking instructions.

Frequently Asked Questions
can you just list the watches it is compatible with? Will it work with the garmin tactix?
In Amazon’s question and answer format, I can’t list all the Garmin devices it is compatible with. In addition, the list can change as Garmin introduces new models. But, I can point you to an answer: Go to Garmin’s web page for this product, https://buy.garmin.com/en-US/US/p/15490#devices, and then click on the “compatible devices” tab.
will this pair with my Garmin Vivofit?
I’m not sure, it paired with my Forerunner 610 watch. I just checked the Garmin website and it shows it as a compatible accessory to the Vivofit so I’d assume it would. See link below and select “compatible devices” tab, Vivofit is list at the bottom. https://buy.garmin.com/en-US/US/shop-by-accessories /fitness-sensors/soft-strap-premium-heart-rate- monitor/prod15490_010-10997-07.html
What is the smallest chest circumference this strap will support? Alternatively, what is the un-stretched measurement when on the most snug setting?
I’m not sure about the smallest, but I am 29″ (74cm) at the breastbone and I have the strap not quite as short as it will go. I was going to shorten it and measure to answer this question, but it is a complicated adjustment (maybe it’s just me) and took so long to get it to fit smoothly that I didn’t want to mess with it.
Does this support Bluetooth le and ant+ or just ant+? will this work with Bluetooth-only phones?
If ant+ is used with this HR strap will other apps running on Bluetooth LTE on an android be interfered with.
does this pair with the vivoactive? and is it waterproof? does it pair via Bluetooth or ant+?
It is ‘water resistant’ to 30m. So yes I would say it’s waterproof. However even though it is waterproof, you will not get readings while underwater. For example triathletes can wear it during the swim portion so they don’t have to take it off and put it back on but they will only get HR readings during the run and bike.
is this compatible with the Garmin 910XT and can it be used in the pool for swimming?
Yes, it is compatible with 910XT. Manual indicates that strap does not transmit data while swimming.
will this pair with an iPhone through an app? can I buy just the chest band and see the results directly and in real time on my iPhone?
Yes, the heart rate monitor transmits heart rate information wirelessly to your compatible device. Once it’s paired with your iPhone the first time, it will automatically recognize it each time.
how do you clean?
Even with removing the ‘monitor’ the washing machine ruined mine. DO NOT put it in the dryer! Even though the ‘monitor’ is removed there are still sensors in the strap which the ‘monitor’ pick up on. Having ruining one in the washer and one using Woolite in a sink, I wash it by using a wet towel every time I use it.
Is this HRM strap waterproof?
The strap is waterproof. However the HRM piece would have to be removed if you wanted to wash the strap in the washer for example. The piece that actually monitors your heart rate is not waterproof.
Is it compatible with the Xterra Fitness SB4.5r fitness bike?
I do not know, but go to the Xterra Fitness web site and see if it is “ANT+” compatible. If the answer is yes, then it is.
is this the one that normally comes in the garmin bundle or this is a better one?
For a Garmin Edge – it can come as a bundle. My Edge did not. I bought the HRM/Strap as a single package. My experience with the Garmin strap is not good at all. In another answer I posted I have gone through 4/5 Garmin straps whereas (in the same amount of time) I have used only one Polar strap which the Garmin ‘unit’ snaps onto.
Will this communicate via Bluetooth to my Sole 35 elliptical?
On newer exercise machines (like the ones at my gym) require blue tooth compatibility. I was told by my Gym the Polar HRM unit connects to their gym equipment. You can use a Garmin strap with the Polar unit. Not sure why someone would do that unless they can buy the unit and keep the strap. I actually did the opposite.
Does this pair with the Pro-Form Tour de France Centennial (stationary bike)? The link did not mention bikes.
I don’t know, but would doubt it. Most stationary bikes at the gym are linked to Polar.
What is the difference of the premium HRM versus the standard HRM which works quite well? I see that it is more expensive, what else?
Polar makes a strap the Garmin unit attaches to perfectly. The Polar strap is soft just like the Garmin but is longer lasting than the Garmin. I also believe the Polar is cheaper. I used up 4/5 Garmm straps vs using only one Polar strap. The Polar strap, like the Garmin requires cleaning. Cleaning based on the Garmin directions shortens the life span considerably (using the washing machine – this forces you to buy straps frequently IMO) I washed in the washing machine one time (no dryer) and it died a few days later.
is it compatible with the Forerunner 305?
Yes it is.
