Note: This Quick Start Guide only applies to those diagnostic products equipped with SmartLink C device or featuring “SmartLink Super Remote Diagnostics” function module.
The supported vehicle models and diagnostic software are subject to the product configuration.

Knowledge of SmartLink C V2.0 Dongle

The SmartLink C V2.0 dongle can work as a VCI (Vehicle Communication Interface) device, together with the LAUNCH-specific diagnostic tool, or as a SmartLink Customer device, requesting technical assistance from a master technician (SmartLink B).

Warning: The SmartLink C V2.0 dongle obtains power through the vehicle’s DLC via the DB-15 diagnostic connector.
Do NOT connect the DC-IN port to an external DC power supply when the SmartLink C V2.0 dongle is properly connected t o the vehicle. No responsibility can be assumed for any damage  or loss caused as a result of not strictly following the above method.

  1. Works as a VCI device
    In this mode, it needs to work in conjunction with the Diagnose module of the diagnostic tool, which is used to obtain vehicle data, and then send it to the diagnostic tool for analysis via WiFi / BT / USB communication (*The available communication method depends on the hardware of the diagnostic tool).LAUNCH

  2. Work as a SmartLink C(Customer) dongle (In the case of SmartLink Diag.)
    It can be used if users need remote technical assistance from master technicians. I n this mode, it does not communicate with the diagnostic tool, but it needs to work together with the SmartLink module of the diagnostic tool. The diagnostic tool is mainly used to issue remote diagnostic requests, and the SmartLink C V2.0 dongle i s networked to receive and execute commands from the remote SmartLink B (Business).

Cable *During the SmartLink diagnosis, especially during remote online programming, it is recommended that the vehicle battery is connected to a charging power source. Doing so can prevent the vehicle from running out of power and failing to start due to long diagnosis time.

Initial Use

  1. WLAN Setup
    The tablet has built-in WLAN module that can be used to get online. Once you’re online, you can register the tool, update diagnostic software & apk, surf the Internet and send email on your network.
    1. Tap on [Settings] on the home screen and then [WLAN] to configure WLAN setting.
    2. Select the desired WLAN connection from the list (Password may be required for secured networks).
    3. When “Connected” appears, it indicates that i t i s properly connected to the network.

    The Diagnostic App is not pre-installed on the diagnostic tool. The user needs to download d install it II ing th ilt-in “APP Init” . Follow the st proceed. low t it manually using the built-in nit” program. Follow the steps below to procsed
    1. On the Android’s Home Screen, tap the mini program “APP Init” to run it.*Warning: The SmartLink C V2.0 dongle obtains power through the vehicle's

method.2. The program automatically obtains the Serial Number o f the diagnostic tool. Carefully check the product Serial Number information against the included Password Envelope. If consistent, tap “OK” to start downloading and installing.

Register & Update

  1. Launch App: tap on the application icon on the home screen, and then tap on “Login” on the upper right corner of the screen. Tap “New Registration” to go to Step 2.LAUNCH X431 Auto Smart Diagnostic Tool - Loging

  3. Activate VCI (SmartLink C V2.0): Input the 12-digit Product S/N and 8-digit Activation Code (can be obtained from the included Password Envelope), and then tap on “Activate”.LAUNCH X431 Auto Smart Diagnostic Tool - Update
  4. Finish Registration & Download Diagnostic Software: Tap on “OK” to enter the vehicle software download screen. Tap on “Update” on the update page to start downloading. Once downloading finished, the software packages w i l l be installed automatically. *All software is updated periodically. It is recommended to check regularly for updates and install the latest software version for the best service and functions.

Vehicle Diagnostics

Preparation & Connection

  1. Preparation
    Before diagnosing, please make sure the following conditions are met:
    1). The ignition is turned on.
    2). The vehicle battery voltage range is 11-14Volts or 18-30Volts.

  2. Locate the vehicle’s DLC (Data Link Connector) port
    For passenger cars, the DLC is usually located 12 inches away from the center o f the instrument panel, under or around the driver’s side for most vehicles. For some vehicles with special designs, the DLC may vary. Refer to the following figure for possible DLC location.LAUNCH X431 Auto Smart Diagnostic

    For commercial vehicles, the DLC is generally located in driver’s cab. If the DLC cannot be found, refer to the vehicle’s service manual for the location.

  3. Connection
    For vehicles equipped with OBD II diagnostic socket, connect the SmartLink C V2.0 dongle to vehicle’s DLC directly via the diagnostic cable.
    *For non-OBD II vehicles, a non-16pin connector(adaptor) i s required.

Diagnose

1. I f you choose “Intelligent Diag” to diagnose a vehicle, this flowchart shall not apply.
2. Before starting adiagnostic session, user needs to activate the VCI and download the corresponding diagnostic software. For detailed operations, please refer to “Initial use”- “Register & Update.”

SmartLink Diag.

The SmartLink system is powerful remote diagnostics solution developed by LAUNCH. The system consists o f SmartLink C dongle (for technicians seeking a trusted second opinion and additional expertise on various vehicle issues), SmartLink Service Platform (for SmartLink C posting assistance request and SmartLink B accepting order) and SmartLink B dongle (for service provider or master technician). They are inseparable from each other for any SmartLink Diag. Follow the steps below to perform a SmartLink session.

  • Post request – – Bind the SmartLink C and post a remote diagnostics request in the SmartLink module (*Only after the SmartLink C V2.0 dongle is successfully bound can the request b e posted).
  • Connection & setup — Connect the vehicle’s DLC and crossover cable.
  • Wait for partner’s assistance — After the remote master technician accepts the order, he will provide professional technical service to you using the SmartLink B/SmartLink B V2.0 dongle (plus the compatible diagnostic tool).
  • Start Diagnostics — Turn on the ignition key and start the diagnosis. After the diagnostic session is completed, unplug the crossover cable, terminate the operation and rate the service. Below illustrates how the SmartLink system works.

LAUNCH X431 Auto Smart Diagnostic Tool - Diagnose 1* During the remote diagnosis, please do not disconnect the vehicle and the network (the network broadband of 100Mb and above i s recommended). In addition, a SmartLink C V2.0 dongle can only receive one remote diagnosis operation a t a time.

Important Safety Information

  • Warning: To avoid personal injury, property damage, or accidental damage to the product, read all of the information in this section before using the product. Work Area Safety Keep work area clean and well lit. Cluttered benches and dark areas may cause
    accidents.

  • Do not connect or disconnect the tool while the ignition is on or the engine is running.

  • DO NOT attempt to operate the tool while driving the vehicle. Have a second person to operate the tool.

  • Before testing a vehicle, put the transmission in PARK (for automatic transmission) or NEUTRAL ( f o r manual transmission). Engage the parking brake and chock the tires.

  • NEVER smoke or allow a spark or flame in vicinity o f battery o r engine. The vehicle shall be tested in a well-ventilated work area, as engines produce various poisonous compounds (hydrocarbon, carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxides, etc.)

  • Do not operate the tool in explosive atmospheres, such as in the presence of flammable liquids, gases, or heavy dust.

  • Never leave the vehicle unattended while testing.

  • Keep a f i r e extinguisher suitable for gasoline/chemical/electrical fires nearby.

  • Use extreme caution when working around the ignition coil, distributor cap, ignition wires and spark plugs. These components create hazardous voltages when the engine is running.

  • Keep bystanders, children and visitors away while operating the tool.

  • This productis not a t o y . Do not allow children to play with or near this tool.

  • Use as intended only. Do not modify.

  • Inspect before every use; do not use if parts are loose or damaged.

  • Do not place the tool on any unstable surface.

  • Handle the tool with care. I f the tool is dropped, check for breakage and any other conditions that may affect its operation.

  • Keep the tool d r y , clean, free from oil, water or grease. Use a mild detergent on a clean cloth to clean the outside of the tool when necessary.

  • Store the tool and accessories in a locked area out o f the reach of children.

  • To avoid damaging the tool or generating false data, please make sure the vehicle battery is fully charged and the connection to the vehicle DLC (Data Link Connector) is clear and secure.

  • If the VCI (Vehicle Communication Interface) i s not in use for along period o f time, itis suggested to unplug the VCI from vehicle’s DLC to conserve battery power.

Electrical Safety

  • Do not use the tool while standing in water.
  • Avoid body contact with grounded surfaces such as pipes, radiators, ranges and refrigerators.
  • Do not expose the tool or power adaptor to rain or wet conditions. Water entering the tool o r power adaptor increases the r i s k of electric shock.

Personal Safet

  • Wear anANSI-approved eye shield when testing or repairing vehicles.
  • Do not wear loose clothing or jewelry. Keep hair, clothing, hands, tools, and test equipment away from moving or hot engine parts. Loose clothes, jewelry, or long hair can be caught in moving parts.
  • Do not use the tool while tired or under the influence of drugs, alcohol, or medications.
  • Amoment of interruption can result in serious personal injury.
  • People with pacemakers should consult their physician(s) before use.
  • Electromagnetic fields in close proximity to heart pacemaker could cause pacemaker interference or pacemaker failure.
  • The warnings, precautions, and instructions discussed in this instruction manual cannot cover all possible conditions and situations that may occur.
  • It must be understood by the operator that common sense and caution are factors which cannot be built into this product, but must be supplied by the operator.
  • There are no user serviceable parts. Have the tool serviced by a qualified repair person using only identical replacement parts. This will ensure that the safety of the equipment i s maintained.
  • Please use the included battery and charger. Risk of explosion if the battery is replaced with an incorrect type.
  • Automotive batteries contain sulfuric acid that is harmful to skin. In operation, direct contact with the automotive batteries should be avoided. Keep the ignition sources away from the battery at all times.
