To keep your quip Electric Toothbrush in the best shape possible, you can clean the upper white portion of your handle when refilling your brush head. Lightly wet the bristles of your old brush head and gently remove any toothpaste residue. If you don’t have an old brush head handy, a damp paper towel will also do the trick. Be sure to dry all parts of your toothbrush before reassembling! Any moisture left inside the brush after cleaning can damage the motor and battery.

Product Usage Instructions

Using an electric toothbrush might seem daunting, but it’s far less intimidating than dealing with a lifetime of cavities. Take a moment to read our concise guide, and you’ll have all the knowledge you need to make the most of your electric toothbrush efficiently and effectively.

So, you’ve decided to part ways with your conventional manual toothbrush and upgrade to an electric model. Congratulations on this wise choice! However, before you power up and start brushing, there are a few essential steps to keep in mind. Here’s a comprehensive guide on using an electric toothbrush to achieve the best possible cleaning for your teeth.

  • Step 1: Prepare
Unlike manual toothbrushes, electric toothbrushes require some initial preparation before you can commence brushing:

    • Floss: Dentists, and most likely your mother, recommend daily flossing between your teeth. Doing so just before you brush is ideal, as it helps eliminate small food remnants and loosens plaque buildup, enhancing the effectiveness of your brushing.
    • Charge Up: While it may seem obvious, it’s crucial to ensure your electric toothbrush is adequately charged. Many models feature an indicator light on the brush handle and can hold a charge for several weeks. Some brushes, like Quip, offer an optional brush head and battery subscription to ensure you always have power when you need it.
    • quip tip: A fully charged brush ensures your teeth receive the cleansing sonic vibrations required for a thorough clean. A low battery can hinder the effectiveness of the bristles.
  • Step 2: Load Toothpaste

    • Not just any toothpaste will do. Opt for a toothpaste with dentist-recommended ingredients like anticavity fluoride and xylitol, coupled with the American Dental Association’s seal of acceptance. quip Toothpaste, available in mint or watermelon flavours, is a prime example that meets these criteria.
    • After briefly wetting the toothbrush head under a faucet, squeeze toothpaste from the tube directly onto the bristles, just as you would with a manual brush. You don’t need an excessive amount; a pea-sized dollop will suffice.
  • Step 3: Brush Your Teeth
It’s important to note that different toothbrushes may have slight variations in their instructions. Here, we’ll explain how to use Quip, a toothbrush that combines the best features of electric and manual toothbrushes. Prior to starting, be sure to review any specific tips provided with your toothbrush.

    • Position Properly: Angle the toothbrush head at a 45-degree angle from your teeth. This ensures comprehensive cleaning not only of the entire surface of each tooth but also of the crucial areas along your gum line.
    • Power Up: Don’t forget to turn on the toothbrush once it’s correctly positioned. The effectiveness of electric toothbrushes is partly due to their vibrating bristles.
    • Choose a Quadrant: Your mouth is divided into four quadrants (top right, top left, bottom right, and bottom left). With your toothbrush turned on and the bristles in motion, begin in one corner of your mouth.
    • Start Brushing: Glide the bristles over your teeth in short back-and-forth strokes. Spend enough time on each tooth for the vibrations to do their job (around two seconds per tooth), but avoid applying excessive force.
    • Brush for Two Minutes: The American Dental Association (ADA) recommends a full two minutes of brushing, which is why most electric toothbrushes, including quip, include a built-in timer with guiding pulses. This ensures you have ample time to thoroughly clean every nook, cranny, and surface of your teeth.

Maximizing the Benefits of Your Clean

Brushing your teeth is the single most effective practice for promoting oral health and maintaining healthy teeth. However, there’s a right way—and numerous wrong ways—to go about it. Here are some general tips for proper toothbrushing, whether you’re using a manual or electric toothbrush:

  • Tip 1: Brush All Sides: When brushing, make sure to focus on all sides of your teeth—not just the parts that are visible. This means brushing the fronts, backs, and tops (chewing surfaces) of each tooth.
  • Tip 2: Avoid Rinsing: Depending on your upbringing, it might seem counterintuitive not to rinse your mouth with water after brushing. However, toothpaste contains ingredients, such as fluoride, meant to continue working on your teeth even after brushing. If you absolutely must rinse, consider using a fluoride mouthwash after brushing. This will eliminate the toothpaste taste, kill germs, and freshen your breath.
  • Tip 3: Regularly Replace Brush Heads: Let’s be honest—when was the last time you replaced your toothbrush or brush head? If you’re like most people, it’s probably been a while. Dentists recommend changing your bristles every three months to ensure the most effective clean. Setting reminders or subscribing to receive brush heads can help streamline this maintenance.

Remember that maintaining your oral health involves more than just brushing your teeth. Daily flossing, avoiding foods and beverages harmful to your teeth, and regular dental check-ups are essential steps in protecting your teeth.

Why Opt for an Electric Toothbrush?

It’s important to note that, as far as the American Dental Association is concerned, manual toothbrushes are sufficiently effective in achieving the primary objectives of toothbrushing. These objectives include the removal of food and plaque that can lead to:

  • Tooth decay
  • Gingivitis
  • Halitosis (bad breath)
  • Tooth loss (periodontitis)
  • Other oral diseases

However, there is evidence suggesting that, when used correctly, electric toothbrushes may be more effective at accomplishing these tasks. This is largely due to the rotating or vibrating bristle heads, which can provide a deeper clean.

In fact, according to a review study, electric toothbrushes have been shown to reduce plaque by nearly 21% compared to manual toothbrushes and gingivitis by almost 11%.

Benefits of Using an Electric Toothbrush

Aside from simplifying the cleaning of hard-to-reach areas at the back of your mouth, electric toothbrushes offer several advantages:

  • Suitable for Kids: Electric toothbrushes are a great option for children who haven’t yet mastered proper brushing techniques. Many models are designed with kids in mind, making brushing a fun experience. Some toothbrushes use music, lights,

Safety Precautions

  • Keep it Dry: Avoid exposing the toothbrush handle and battery compartment to excessive moisture. While the toothbrush is designed for use in a bathroom environment, do not submerge it in water or leave it in a wet environment for an extended period.
  • Proper Storage: When not in use, store the toothbrush in a dry and clean location. Using the provided travel cover or a suitable toothbrush holder can help protect it from dust and contaminants.
  • Battery Safety: If the toothbrush operates on batteries, ensure that you insert and replace the batteries correctly, following the manufacturer’s instructions. Use the recommended type and size of batteries. If the battery compartment becomes corroded, replace the batteries and clean the compartment before use.
  • Charging: If the toothbrush is rechargeable, use only the provided charger or a compatible one recommended by the manufacturer. Overcharging or using an incorrect charger can damage the battery and the toothbrush.
  • Do Not Disassemble: Avoid disassembling the toothbrush or attempting to repair it yourself. Opening the device may void the warranty and pose safety risks. If you encounter any issues or need repairs, contact the manufacturer or authorized service centers.
  • Supervision for Children: If the toothbrush is used by children, ensure that they are supervised during brushing to prevent misuse or accidents. Keep the toothbrush out of reach of unsupervised children.
  • Avoid Sharing: It’s best to avoid sharing toothbrushes, even if they have removable brush heads. Sharing toothbrushes can transfer bacteria and increase the risk of infection.
  • Regular Maintenance: Clean the toothbrush handle and brush head regularly according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Ensure that the brush head is securely attached to the handle.
  • Replace Brush Heads: Follow the recommended schedule for replacing brush heads, usually every three months or as indicated by the manufacturer. Worn-out brush heads may be less effective and can potentially harm your gums.
  • Allergies and Sensitivities: If you have allergies or sensitivities to certain materials used in the toothbrush or toothpaste, consult with your healthcare provider or dentist for suitable alternatives.
  • Seek Professional Advice: If you have specific dental or oral health concerns, consult your dentist or oral healthcare professional for personalized advice on using an electric toothbrush effectively.

Troubleshoot

A new battery usually does the trick — follow the steps below to get back to brushing ASAP!

  1. Remove old brush head: Grip the head and handle in opposite hands, bristles facing away from you. Place your thumb on the dots, then gently pull the head off in a slight arc motion (don’t snap it directly backward!).
  2. Remove motor and battery: Pull the motor out by lifting it by the wings or using the thumbnail notch. Once it’s removed, tip the handle over and tap out the battery.
  3. Clean handle: Lightly wet the bristles of your old brush head and gently remove any toothpaste residue. If you don’t have an old brush head handy, a damp paper towel will also do the trick.
  4. Wipe motor: Be sure to dry all parts of your toothbrush before reassembling! Any moisture left inside the brush after cleaning can damage the motor and battery.
  5. Reassemble: Once everything is in place, press the q button to test.
