Getting Started

For Mac OS X Users:
The Web Camera will be automatically installed when you connect it to a Mac; no additional software is required. You will need to open camera software such as Quick Time, Photo Booth, Skype, or Face Time to start streaming the video. Quick Time and Photo Booth are preinstalled on all Macs as standard. To check if the webcam is detected or not, you may click the Apple Menu (in the top left corner of your screen) and then click “About this Mac”. Click on “System Report” from the pop-up window that appears. The system information window for your Mac will appear. Navigate to the USB Section and check to see if the webcam is listed as a connected device (Show as “webcam” like the picture below).

TECKNET TK CA001 Web Camera - Getting Started

  1. FaceTime
So long as the Mac being used meets Apple’s guidelines for running Face Time (having either OS X v10.5 installed or, on a small number of models, a built- in iSight camera on OS X v10.4), simply follow the installation instructions for Macs. Your system should automatically detect the Webcam in Face Time.
If your Mac has a built-in camera already, you may open Face Time, click “Video” on the top left of your screen, and choose the “webcam” to use this Web Camera (like the picture below).TECKNET TK CA001 Web Camera

  2. Skype
Before running Skype, make sure that any other applications that are using the webcam are fully closed. Failure to do so will mean that Skype may not recognize the webcam. It is highly recommended to update your Skype to the latest version.
Once you have installed Skype and started it up, select “Preferences…” from the Skype menu in the top left corner of your screen (like the picture below):TECKNET TK CA001 Web Camera -FaceTime 1

In the “Audio & Video” tab, select “webcam” from the “Camera” dropdown menu, select “webcam” from the “Microphone” dropdown menu.
We recommend the users unchecked the box below the Microphone dropdown menu marked “Automatically adjust microphone settings”. This option, when checked, can sometimes cause sound interruptions during voice calls. Initially, it is best to set the volume slider a little less than halfway along the bar. You can adjust this later to suit your preferences.
Remember to save your changes before closing the window.

~ Audio settings: Select “USB microphone” for Microphone and “Default communications device” (or your soundcard) for Speakers and Ringing.
~ Camera Setting: Select “TECKNET Web Camera” from the dropdown menu.
We recommend the users also unchecked the box below the Microphone dropdown menu marked “Automatically adjust microphone settings”. This option, when checked, can sometimes cause sound interruptions during voice calls. Initially, it is best to set the volume slider a little less than halfway along the bar. You can adjust this later to suit your preferences. Remember to save your changes before closing the window.

FAQs

Q: Can I disable the audio so I can use a different microphone?

A: Yes, you can control audio inputs through your computer's control panel.

Q: Can this camera be mounted on a tripod?

A: Yes. There is a screw hole under the base. You can install the webcam on a tripod.

Q: Can I zoom in and out with this webcam?

A: NO, it is unable to zoom in or out.

Q: Can I use a longer cable to extend it?

A: We strongly recommend using the original cable, do not use any extension, which will lead to instability of the video call.

Q: Is this automatic focus or fixed focus?

A: This webcam is fixed focus.

Q: Can this webcam connect to and work with a smart TV?

A: We don’t recommend this because some TVs have restrictions on external devices.

Q: After installation, how can I choose the webcam if my computer already has an integrated camera?

A: Please check the Skype setup chapter of this manual for a solution to this problem. Similar steps can be used for the setup of Web Camera on different video call software.

Q: My video is choppy. The frame rate is worse than expected. What should I do?

A: Please note that in low light situations, the frame rate of the capture will drop, making the video appear choppier. To obtain the highest possible frame rate, turn the LED light to the maximum brightness or use the webcam in a well-lit area where the light source is behind the camera and out of the picture.

Lens Care

  1. Use a blower to remove dust and lint from the lens surfaces. To remove smudges and fingerprints, apply a small amount of ethanol or lens cleaner to a soft, clean cotton cloth or lens-cleaning tissue and clean from the center outwards using a circular motion, taking care not to leave smears or touch the glass with your fingers.
  2. Never use organic solvents such as paint thinner or benzene to clean the lens.
  3. Keep the webcam dry. Rusting of the internal mechanism can cause irreparable damage.
  4. Leaving the webcam in extremely hot locations could damage or warp parts made from reinforced plastic.
