**

Warning: Do not use this product if you cannot understand and follow the instructions and warnings that come with it and complete all necessary functions.

MODEL NUMBERS:

(Note: Pad styles, colors or options may vary from those shown throughout these instructions).

PN 36021 – ComfortLiteTM Continuous Wrap Pad for Aluminum Climbers consists of the following.

• Continuous wrap style strap and pad assembly (PN 36021-P) **See Fig 1 & 2.

• Cuff Assembly with permanently attached climber sleeve (PN 36021-S) See Fig 5 & 6.
• Sleeve to climber fastener set. (PN A9215Q1) see Fig 7.

Note: Fastener set includes 5 each of screw and barrel nut. One to be used as a spare.

PN 36021C – ComfortLiteTM Pad with Cinch Loop for Aluminum Climbers consists of the following.

• Cinch loop style strap and pad assembly (PN 36021C-P) **See Fig 3 & 4.

• Cuff Assembly with permanently attached climber sleeve **(PN 36021-S) See Fig 5 & 6.

**

• Sleeve to climber fastener set (PN A9215Q1) **see Fig 7.

INSPECTION

ComfortLiteTM pads must be inspected before each use as follows:

• Inspect to ensure the pads, cuffs and sleeves are properly attached and in good condition.
• Ensure sleeves are properly attached to cuffs, all rivets are in place, tight and in good condition. Sleeves are not cracked, damaged, corroded or excessively worn.
• Ensure wrap around strap sections have no broken, pulled or frayed stitching.
• Inspect to ensure hook and loop fastener is not worn or excessively dirty and that it properly adheres to itself.
• The Retractable Gaff Guard strap is attached and in good condition.

If any evidence of excessive wear or deterioration as outlined is observed, immediately cease use, destroy the product, and replace it with new equipment. Should any unusual conditions not outlined above be observed, or you have reasonable doubt about a particular condition, remove the equipment from service and notify your Supervisor, Safety Director, or contact Buckingham Mfg. (1 800-937-2825) for clarification. Failure to carefully and completely inspect your equipment could result in serious injury or death.

ATTACHING CLIMBER TO THE CUFF ASSEMBLY

1. The Cuff Assemblies are marked for right and left on the outside corner of the cuff. Ensure right and left Cuff Assemblies are attached to the corresponding side climber.
2. Properly orientate the climber so that the gaff is pointing away from the outside of the cuff radius.
3. Push the shank end of the climber up into the opening of the climber sleeve.
4. Place your foot on the stirrup of the climber.
5. Adjust the overall length of the climber by sliding the adjustable climber sleeve to the desired position on the climber shank. Buckingham recommends the top of the cuff be adjusted to a range of 2”-4” (approximately four fingers) below your projecting knee bone **(Fig 8).

** Slight adjustment up or down may be needed based on your particular climbing style to reach a maximum level of comfort.

6. Once at proper height, align the holes of the climber shank to the holes in the climber sleeves.
7. Insert the barrel nut through the hole in the back side of the cuff and through the leg iron. Insert the screw through the climber sleeve and climber and thread into the barrel nut.
8. The sleeves must be properly attached to the climber leg irons using the appropriate supplied hardware (screws with thread locking patch and barrel nut) and two points of attachment. Tighten sleeve screw fasteners until snug. Do not over tighten.

Notes:

• Two fasteners (screws with thread locking patch & barrel nuts) must be used to secure each sleeve to each leg iron.
• Screws with thread locking patch have diminished resistance to loosening after the first three removals. It is recommended to replace the sleeve fasteners after they have been inserted and removed three times.
• Aluminum climbers dated before 5/21 were manufactured with sleeve attachment holes towards the low end of the diameter tolerance. Users may experience some difficulty when inserting the supplied sleeve fasteners into the sleeve attachment holes of those climbers. If using climbers dated before 5/21, Buckingham recommends using the existing barrel nuts supplied with those climbers and the new patched screws.

ASSEMBLING CUFF TO STRAP AND PAD ASSEMBLY:

1. If the strap is wrapped around the pad, detach the hook from the loop, opening up the assembly and lay it on a flat surface with the pad side down. Optional steps if using PN 6911 BuckGuard 2.0 Retractable Gaff Guard.

   • Disconnect the hook of the BuckGuard attachment strap from the loop of the wrap pad strap (Fig. 9).
     

   • Align the retracting device so that the ¾” web attachment strap on the back of the BuckGuard is facing down.

   • Insert the BuckGuard attachment strap through the opening of the retracting device ¾” web attachment strap.

   • Secure the hook fastener of the BuckGuard attachment strap to the loop fastener of the wrap pad strap (Fig 10).

   • The loop fastener securement piece of the BuckGuard should be facing outward (Fig 10) and will adhere to the hook fastener of the wrap pad strap when the pad is wrapped (Fig 11).
     

2. Both the cuff and pad are marked left and right. Slide the right side cuff between the padding and the strap of the right side pad so that the inside of the cuff is centered with the padding (Fig. 12).
   

3. Firmly press the two sections together so that the hook of the cuff completely adheres to the loop on the back of the padding. Once attached the cuff should not be easily separated from the pad section.

4. Repeat for the left side cuff and wrap pad strap.

ATTACHING THE PAD TO YOUR LEG:

1. Place your foot on the stirrup of the climber with pad attached with the Minimum Wrap Label facing toward the inside of your leg **(Fig. 13 & 15).

2. Wrap the strap around your leg so that the hook fastener portion of the strap covers the sleeve (and BuckGuard if attached) and adheres to the loop fastener on the outside of the pad. The strap should be wrapped until is snug to your leg but never so tight as to restrict circulation. Buckingham recommends only tightening to the point where four fingers can be inserted between the pad and your leg (Fig 14).
   

3. Always ensure that the strap is wrapped so that the Minimum Wrap Label is located at least 1” past the start of the loop fastener on the outside of the pad or beyond (Fig. 15). Failure to do so may cause release, resulting in serious injury or death.

4. Ensure the ComfortLiteTM pads are properly tightened and adjusted.

5. ComfortLiteTM pads must always be used in combination with correctly fastened climber foot straps to properly attach climbers to your legs. Never use a ComfortLiteTM pad without a climber foot strap. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions to attach and fasten the foot strap for the climber after attaching the pad to your leg.

6. Check that climbers, pads and straps are properly secured by taking a few steps on the structure you plan on climbing before ascending. Readjust and re-secure if needed.

Wrap Pad with Cinch Loop Attachment:

1. Place your foot on the stirrup of the climber with pad (with BUCK Logo) facing toward the inside of your leg (Fig. 16).
   

2. To secure the pad to your leg, begin by threading the tab at the free end of the strap through the steel cinch loop. (Fig. 17).
   

3. Continue to pull the free end of the strap through the steel loop until the pad is snug on your leg. Always ensure that the Minimum Wrap Label has been pulled through the steel loop. This ensures a proper wrap. Failure to do so may cause release, resulting in serious injury or death. **(Fig. 18).

4. Wrap the free end of the strap completely around the pad, adhering the hook fastener to the loop fastener on the outside of the pad. (Fig. 19) The strap should be wrapped until is snug to your leg but never so tight as to restrict circulation. Buckingham recommends only tightening to the point where four fingers can be inserted between the pad and your leg **(Fig 20).

5. Ensure the ComfortLiteTM pads are properly tightened and adjusted.
6. ComfortLiteTM pads must always be used in combination with correctly fastened climber foot straps to properly attach climbers to your legs. Never use a ComfortLiteTM pad without a climber foot strap. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions to attach and fasten the foot strap for the climber after attaching the pad to your leg.
7. Check that climbers, pads and straps are properly secured by taking a few steps on the structure you plan on climbing before ascending. Readjust and re-secure if needed.

CLEANING

Proper maintenance and storage of your equipment will prolong its useful life and contribute toward its performance.

Nylon should be cleaned with mild soap and water and be allowed to air dry thoroughly without using excessive heat. Do not use any type of corrosive substance or acid, which will gradually eat away the fabric.

Clean hook & loop fasteners with a soft bristle brush.

Clean cuff and sleeve by removing surface dirt with a clean cloth dampened (not wet) with water and allow to air dry

STORAGE

Store ComfortLiteTM pads in a manner as to preclude damage from environmental factors such as temperature, light, UV, excessive moisture, oil, chemicals and their vapors or other degrading elements.

WARNINGS

• Completely read, understand, and follow all instructions, warnings, and guidelines pertaining to this and all associated equipment before use. Failure to do so could result in your serious injury or death.
• Buckingham ComfortLiteTM pads are not intended for, and not be used by, individuals notproperly trained. Use by such persons could cause a fall and result in serious injury or death.
• Use equipment for its intended purpose only.
• Only Buckingham Mfg. Co. or those people authorized in writing by Buckingham Mfg. Co. may make repairs / modifications to this equipment.
• Climber accessories must be in good condition. Material shall be kept clean and dry. Climbing equipment that shows signs of excessive wear, or cracking of components, should be immediately discarded.
• No equipment lasts forever. Therefore, should you have any doubt about the safety of your equipment, replace it.
• Buckingham ComfortLiteTM Pads conform to ASTM F887.
• Product covered under these instructions / warnings should not be resold / redistributed or re-used after use by original user as assurance cannot be granted that a used product meets criteria of applicable standards and is safe for use to a subsequent user.
• Ensure proper fit / size of product before use. This product cannot be returned unless it is in new / unused condition.

STATEMENT of OBSOLESCENCE

Precise “useful life expectancy” or “shelf life” for this product is not specified, as the degree of use, conditions of use, and the degree of care and storage determines useful life. All users maintain responsibility to select proper equipment for the job, be properly trained in its use, and ensure all personnel support equipment passes inspection before each use. Upon evidence of defects, damage or deterioration, all equipment shall be removed from service immediately and tagged or marked as unusable or destroyed. Additionally, all equipment shall be inspected on a regular basis not to exceed one year by a Competent Person, as defined by OSHA/ANSI, to verify that the equipment is safe for use. In the event of any question or concern regarding the condition of such equipment, users shall remove the equipment from service for further inspection. All users must comply with OSHA/ANSI/ASTM standards prior to and in using such equipment. INTERNATIONAL USERS

Notwithstanding the above, please know that certain international jurisdictions require  manufacturers of equipment to provide customers with a maximum useful lifespan (sometimes referred to as a “Statement of Obsolescence”). To the extent required, Buckingham personal protective equipment manufactured from synthetic fiber materials including but not limited to items such as webbing and/or rope are subject to a maximum useful lifespan of ten (10) years from the date of manufacture. As stated above proper usage, storage, maintenance, and care impacts the useful lifespan of equipment. Extreme circumstances may require that product must be retired after only one use. This statement is made in conformance and compliance with BS EN 365:2004. International users must ensure that product inspections are completed by Competent Persons as defined by international standards including but not limited to British Standard (“BS”). If equipment fails any inspections, it must be immediately withdrawn from service and destroyed. We guarantee the equipment we manufacture to be free from defects in material and workmanship. We will repair any equipment deemed to be defective which is returned to us by the  original purchaser. However, this guarantee is void if any product is changed or altered in any way,or if the product is used in a manner other than for which it is intended. This express guarantee supersedes all other expressed or implied guarantees, obligations or liabilities. There are no implied warranties of merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose and as such, all implied warranties are specifically disclaimed.

LIMITATION ON LIABILITY

In no event will Buckingham or buyer be liable to the other for lost revenues, lost profits or any other indirect, consequential, special or punitive losses or damages, however caused, whether in action for breach of contract, strict liability, tort, or otherwise, even if advised of the possibility of such losses or damages. In no event will Buckingham’s liability exceed the total amount paid by the buyer to
