HAMPTON VH440 Hydraulic Closer Kit

Product Information

The VH440 series consists of four models: VH440, VH440BL, VH440SB, and VH440WH. These models are hydraulic (oil-controlled) door closers. It is recommended to install a Safety Check Chain to prevent damage to the closer in case of high wind or if the door is opened too wide. The door closer should be handled with care to avoid nicking or scratching the rod.

Product Usage Instructions

Before installation, make sure to have the necessary tools and equipment.
Refer to Figure A for the jamb bracket installation. Attach the jamb bracket to the door jamb using the provided screws.
Refer to Figure B for the door bracket installation. Attach the door bracket to the door using the provided screws.
Refer to Figure C for the closer tube installation. Insert the closer tube into the rear hole of the door panel and secure it in place.
Connect the short connecting pin to the lug on the door bracket and the long connecting pin to the lug on the jamb bracket, as shown in Figure B.
Adjust the tension of the door closer by turning the adjustment screws, if necessary.
Perform a safety check by opening and closing the door to ensure proper functionality of the door closer.
If desired, install a Safety Check Chain to prevent damage to the closer in case of high wind or if the door is opened too wide.
Refer to the warranty section for information on warranty coverage and how to make a claim, if needed.

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS FOR DOOR CLOSER

NOTE : This is a Hydraulic (oil-controlled) Door Closer. It is recommended that a Safety Check Chain be installed to prevent damage to the closer in the event of a high wind or if door is opened too wide. Do not nick or scratch the rod as this may cause a fluid leak. Closer to be installed at top or on mullion near the center of the screenthe or storm the door. Check the door to make sure that it swings freely before installation.

Step 1: On the hinge side of door, at the desired height, fasten the jamb bracket to the door jamb with the (4) long screws. The open side of the bracket should be 1/4″ from the door as shown.
Step 2: Slide hold-open washer on the rod. The hold-open washer should be positioned over the lugs against the tube as shown. Attach the closer rod to the jamb bracket with a short connecting pin. This preloads closer with correct tension for installation. Do note to change until installation is complete.
Step 3: Connect the door bracket to another end of the closer with a long connecting g pin through the front hole of the closer as shown.
Step 4:the With the screen of the r storm door closed and latched, level the closer and mark and drill (2) 1/8″ diameter holes. Secure the door bracket to the screen or storm door with short screws.
Step 5: Open the screen or storm door slightly and slide hold-open washer behind the lugs toward jam the b bracket. Closer is now ready to operate.

POWER ADJUSTMENT AND CLOSING SPEED

Power
Installed as directed above, the closer is in maximum latching power position (pin in the front hole). If less closing power is required, hold the door open about 8″ with a hold-open washer, pull a long connecting pin, and relocate in the rear hole. Speed – To adjust closing speed, rotate tube as directed the on label.
