Product Information

The Erica Synths Black Reverb is a high-end module in the Black Series. It offers unique functionality and superior quality. The module is designed with usability in mind, featuring big knobs assigned to functions that make differences in the sound. It is built with the best, highest quality components and all inputs and outputs are protected against overvoltage. The Black Reverb is part of a range of modules that can be used to build an entire synthesizer. The reverb effect is based on Tape, BBD (Bucket Brigade Device), and digital delay lines.

It offers three room sizes, manual and triggered FREEZE with 1V/oct tracking, and 10 preset patches. The size, feedback, tone, dry/wet mix, and preset selection can be controlled via CV inputs. The module also provides adjustable stereo spin. It runs on Erica Synths DSP hardware and the effects are developed in collaboration with Dutch company 112.dB, known for their beautiful sounding effects.

Product Usage Instructions

  1. Connect your audio source to the L (MONO) IN or patch a mono signal into it. The signal will be automatically routed to the R input.
  2. If desired, connect a CV signal to the SIZE CV input to modulate the reverb size. The CV input is calibrated to track 1V/oct.
  3. Adjust the SIZE knob to set the reverb size.
  4. Use the TYPE switch to select the desired reverb type: Tape (T), BBD (B), or digital delay (D).
  5. If desired, connect a CV signal to the TONE CV input to modulate the reverb tone.
  6. Adjust the TONE/SPN knob to set the reverb tone or stereo spin (depending on the selected reverb type).
  7. If desired, connect a CV signal to the FEEDBACK CV input to modulate the reverb feedback.
  8. Adjust the FEEDBACK knob to set the reverb feedback level.
  9. If desired, connect a CV signal to the FREEZE SAVE input to control the freeze feature.
  10. Use the FREEZE button to initiate freeze with a gate or trigger signal. Use a second gate or trigger signal to unfreeze the audio buffer.
  11. Adjust the DRY/WET knob to set the balance between the dry and wet (effected) signal.
  12. Connect the L OUT and R OUT audio outputs to your audio system or mixer.

Firmware Update

  1. Download the firmware update audio file to your computer.
  2. Turn off your Eurorack system and connect the audio output (headphones out or soundcard output) to the L(MONO) IN of the Black Stereo Reverb module. Set the TYPE switch to the D position (lowest).
  3. Push and hold the SHIFT and FREEZE buttons simultaneously, then turn on the Eurorack system. The five LEDs on the right-hand side will start blinking, indicating that the firmware update mode is active.

Safety Instructions Please follow these safety instructions to ensure proper operation of the Erica Synths Black Reverb module:

  • Avoid using the module in a humid or wet environment. It is not waterproof, and liquids or conducting substances should not get into the module. If this happens, disconnect the module from power immediately and have it examined and cleaned by a qualified technician.

FIRMWARE UPDATE

The Black Stereo Reverb module features an audio bootloader for firmware updates. In order to update the firmware:

  1. Download the audio file to your computer.
  2. Turn off your Eurorack system and connect the audio output (headphones out or audio output from a soundcard) to the L(MONO) IN of the Black Stereo Reverb module. Set the TYPE switch to the D position (lowest).
  3. Push and hold the SHIFT and FREEZE buttons simultaneously and turn the Eurorack system on. The five LEDs on the right-hand side will start blinking, indicating that the firmware update mode is active.
  4. Now, play the audio file from your computer. The left five LEDs will indicate the audio level of the incoming firmware file. At least 3 LEDs have to be illuminated for a sufficient audio level. If less than 3 LEDs are active, flip the TYPE switch to the B position to increase the audio level of the incoming signal.
  5. The firmware update will take few minutes. During the firmware update a blinking FREEZE button indicates that the update is going well, a blinking SHIFT button indicates an error. In case of an error, retry the update from step 1.
  6. Once the update is completed, restart your rack.
