Introduction
The world’s first legitimate patent holder, NINESTARS, created and constructed this set of touchless trashcans in stainless steel. You can use them in whatever room you like, like the kitchen, office bathroom, dorm room, or child’s room, with one kitchen-sized and one bathroom-sized. The most cutting- edge sensor technology, available in all Ninestars trash cans, is used in these two bins. The lid will open automatically if your hand or other objects are placed ten inches from the infrared sensor or at an angle of 130 degrees. If any trash or your hand is still in the infrared sensor’s field of view, the lid will stay open. When you remove your hand from the lid, it will automatically close. A ring liner is included in each container to prevent.

Overview
Model: DZT-42-9, DZT-50-9, and DZT-50-9BK
Note: Trash can may not be the same size as the above photo. However, all functions are the same. These models are to be used in-door at all times.
Instruction
Step 1 – Remove all components from the box

- Base
Step 2 – Insert batteries
Locate the battery compartment on the bottom of the lid. Squeeze the tab on the battery cap and carefully lift up to open. Insert three (3) HEAVY DUTY “C” size batteries. Insert the batteries in accordance with the positive (+) and negative (-) poles. To close, insert side with teeth first and push the battery cap down. Make sure it clicks to ensure that it’s securely fastened.
Step 3 – Insert trash bag
Insert the trash bag using the liner ring (see diagram). Fold the upper rim of the bag around the liner ring. Place the trash bag and the liner ring in the trash container. Tuck the bag completely into the bottom of the container so that the edges of the bag will be concealed once the lid is placed on top. **DO NOT put the liner ring inside the bag
Step 4 – Trash can set up
Align the lid with the base and gently place the lid on top.
Step 5 – Turning the trash can On/Off
The power switch is located underneath the lid. When the switch is in the “I” position the trash can is ON. When the switch is in the “O” position the trash can is OFF.
Step 6 – Using the trash can
Place your hand or an object within inches of the motion sensor (located on the lid). The lid will open instantly. Once your hand or object is out of the sensor range, the lid will close automatically within seconds. The lid will remain open if the object stays within the sensor range.
Additional Features
Keeping Lid Open Longer (Manual Mode) – Press the “OPEN” button to keep the lid in the open position for a longer period. Press the “CLOSE” button to close the lid and reactivate the sensor.
Soft Close – The lid has a soft close feature that will allow the lid to close at a slow and quiet pace.
Technical Facts
LED light indicators
- To turn ON the trash can: Turn the power switch into the “I” position and a flashing red light will appear, which indicates the trash can is in sensor mode.
- To open the lid: Waive above sensor, a solid green light will appear when the lid opens.
- Lid Closing: A solid red light will appear when the lid is closing.
- Low Battery: A flashing yellow light will appear when battery power is low. Please replace batteries.
Warning
- Align batteries according to the positive and negative poles.
- Do not submerge the trash can into water because it is equipped with many electrical components. The trash can may be wiped with a damp cloth.
- Do not manually force the lid close; this can cause damage to the internal gears. If the gears are damaged, the automatic lid will not function properly.
- Replace used batteries in a timely manner to prevent battery acid leakage. Battery acid may cause damage to the electrical components of the trash can.
- Do not mix new and used batteries.
- Do not place trash can in direct sunlight or a heavily moisturized environment.
- Do not mix alkaline, standard (zinc-carbon), or rechargeable (NiCd, NiMH, etc) batteries.

Limited Warranty
What does this Warranty cover?
This warranty covers the electronic mechanism of the lid such as the computer chip, motor, gear box and electrical circuits only.
How long does the coverage last?
This warranty is valid two years from the date of purchase.
What will Nine Stars do?
-Nine Stars will fix or replace any defective or malfunctioning lid.
-Customer is responsible for returning the defective or malfunctioning lid (entire top unit of the Trash Can) to Nine Stars. The customer is also responsible for shipping charges to return the product to us. Nine Stars will pay for shipping charges back to the customer if the lid is covered under our warranty program outlined in this document.
What does the warranty not cover?
– The base of the unit, battery caps (if applicable), liner rings (if applicable), inner bucket (if applicable), or any problems with the automatic lid caused by abuse, misuse, or natural disasters (such as earthquakes, floods and fires) are not covered.
User’s modifications or alterations to Nine Stars products will void User’s Warranty. Only our authorized distributors will be covered under our warranty. We will NOT warranty products purchased from auctions, auctioneers, discount/closeout stores.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does the large can have a plastic liner or just the ring that holds the bag?
The ring holds the bag… honestly don’t buy this set. i cannot tell you how disappointed i am. i have bought two of these and the larger can motion sensor quit on both within a few months. both did the same thing, stopped opening via the motion sensor. so now we must resort to pushing the open/close buttons to operate, or use the plastic tap to open it manually. sometimes the buttons don’t work well so i find myself just using the plastic tab to avoid frustration. i contacted nine stars and they said they would repair/replace, but i have lost so much confidence in this product that i don’t want to waste the money to ship. then again, the small ones generally work fine. just thought i’d share my experience.
My lid is closing slowly and not opening up all the way. Have replaced the batteries problem still is there. Can I buy replacement lid?
I broke the hinge on the lid by accidentally hitting it while open. It still fits back together, but the lid often opens to the wrong place and it won’t close at all or closes too soon. I just press the Open button to force it open, then lift the lid and set it at around a 90-degree angle (where it’s supposed to be) then press the Close button. All set until someone bangs the lid again.
How many gallon ?
The size of the trashcans are 13gal (50 liter) & 2.1gal (8 liter).
How long will the batteries last with heavy use?
I have also had mine about 8 months and have not had to change the batteries yet.
Where can I get a replacement lid? Ours is stuck on the open setting. Green light always on.
If you go on their site. Lids are not cheap though.
How can you use these trash cans in a cabinet?
The small one should be fine but unless you have really tall cabinets the tall one wont fit. They are really great cans though!
Is there a manual opening option?
Hi Danielle yes it does, however it’s a very small an narrow handle. I have no problem using this to open manually but someone with larger fingers might? All in all these bins are great and I haven’t had to change the batteries as of yet.
Can you disable the auto open function – but still be able to use the open/close buttons?
No. the unit only has a on or off switch. when on the sensor and the buttons are activated.
I am looking for the holder for the battery?
The battery holder is usually under the lid in the back. You need to press the tab to open it.
DOES this come with 2 cans?
Yes. one regular size13 gallon and small one bag size 8 gallon. You will enjoy the trash cans the only time you touch the trash cans is when you need to change the trash bags.
How do you get replacement parts? We need the black ring that holds the bag

Do these rust?’
It does not rust as it is stainless.
The lid won’t open fully. We have tried cleaning and replacing the batteries. This product is less than a year old. Is there warranty?
Yes
There are two different answers about the height. Could I get a tie breaker? What is the exact height of the large can with the lid all the way open?’
The correct answer is 36 inches/3 feet with the lid fully open.
Why does my small round trash can lid not open most of the time. I have reset it several times still only works sometimes?
I don’t know for sure, but mine had the same problem. Ninestars replaced the lid, shipping included. There can/lid were still under warranty. Ninestars stands by their products.
Is there a way to change the sensitivity of the sensor? Any moving object within 6 inches will open the lid.
no. it opens when you walk by mine. it should be a little more out of the way to conserve battery
Is there a plug in to purchase for it instead of using batteries?
No. There is no AC power adapter. But the batteries last a long time. I’ve had mine now for a few months on the same set of batteries and it gets used a lot.
