these operating instructions you will receive all the important information
and instructions regarding your transfer seat base. We would like to ask you
to carefully read the following to ensure that your transfer seat base will
continue to work without problems for many years to come. Keep these operating
instructions “to hand” for future reference. Our operating instructions
contain the answers to questions which relate to the equipment and the
operation of the transfer seat base. However, if you still have questions or

The PARAVAN Seat Collection is a range of transfer seat bases manufactured by PARAVAN GmbH. The transfer seat bases are designed to assist individuals with mobility challenges in transferring from their wheelchair to a vehicle seat. Technical nature of documentation
All details on technical data/specifications, illustrations and information in
these operating instructions describe the position at the editorial deadline
in December 2021. The operating instructions for the PARAVAN transfer seat
base have been produced in the German language and can be translated into
other languages, however in the case of potential differences the German
version is legally binding.
Regarding these operating instructions
These operating instructions do not constitute a maintenance and repair manual and therefore are not suitable to use for the private carrying out of maintenance and repair work, or to provide instruction on this. They provide you with information about the nature of the design and operation of the transfer seat base. The most significant product features are listed and described in the following.
These operating instructions are an essential part of the transfer seat base product and must always be kept in the vehicle so that you can quickly access all important information. All page and directional information in this documentation is always specified from the point of view of the operator and in the direction of travel!
Liability exclusion
The operation of the PARAVAN transfer seat base without faults or malfunctions
can only be guaranteed if the knowledge gained from these operating
instructions is observed and implemented. PARAVAN GmbH does not accept any
liability or guarantee for damage or malfunctions which result during
operation due to the non-observance of these operating instructions or due to
modifications made to the transfer seat base.

Guarantee services are based entirely on the respective PARAVAN guarantee provisions. Excluded from guarantee claims is damage which has occurred due to:- Wear
- Improper operation or use
- Incorrect/infrequent maintenance
- Incorrect/infrequent care

Technical modifications
All modifications to safety installations and technical modifications to the transfer seat base, even if minor, are strictly prohibited. All modifications must be authorised or carried out by PARAVAN GmbH. PARAVAN GmbH reserves the right to undertake technical modifications and improvements to the product in the interest of our customers and progressive development.
Claims relating to the guarantee and warranty shall expire in the case of all modifications made to the PARAVAN transfer seat base not authorised by PARAVAN GmbH. Furthermore, dangerous malfunctions cannot be ruled out!
WARNING
Danger of injury for persons when operating a transfer seat base which does
not correspond to the original or delivered condition. Material damage to the
transfer seat base by the use of nonauthorised parts or incorrectly installed
parts.
- Do not carry out any technical modifications to the transfer seat base.
- Only operate the transfer seat base in its original or delivered condition.
- Only use original or authorised spare parts.
Target group
The operator must acquire or gain a level of knowledge relating to the
following points before operating the transfer seat base:
- Knowledge of the content of the operating instructions in order to safely operate and also be able to move the transfer seat base.
- Knowledge of the safety and operating provisions listed herein in order to recognise potential dangers or dangerous situations and avert these for the user and the environment.
As a user, please ensure you receive sufficient training when the product is supplied. If necessary, please contact us.
Explanation of symbols
When reading the operating instructions you will encounter the following
symbols and warning symbols.
The “Caution Danger!” logo
indicates danger points. The counteraction measures specified in the
respective text must be followed in all cases. This symbol is always used in
combination with the respective signal word which reflects the level of
danger:
- Danger! – Direct danger to life and limb (irreversible).
- Warning – potential danger to life and limb (irreversible).
- Caution – potential danger to life and limb (reversible).
- Caution – potential damage to the vehicle.
Additional information for the user e.g. in order to simplify the operation of the transfer seat base and/or to avoid damage to the transfer seat base. This symbol refers the user to further sections or further documentation e.g. also to annexes of these operating instructions.
Structure of safety information
The safety information provides the following information:

Performance description
Manufacturing standard
You have chosen a PARAVAN transfer seat base. We would like to thank you for
placing your trust in us. As always, you are purchasing a product that PARAVAN
manufactured itself and developed with the needs of disabled people in mind.
Our products are characterised by stability, quality and the tried-and-tested
modular design.
The PARAVAN transfer seat base is available in three versions:
- Linear adjustment + lift adjustment + swivelling (swivel in and swivel out) (6-way)
- Linear adjustment + lift adjustment + swivelling (swivel in and swivel out) (6-way, long version)
All of the products can be used in almost all vehicles. Furthermore, various seat models can be mounted onto them. The PARAVAN transfer seat base can be used for drivers or passengers, as well as in the second or third row. You can choose between a seat that swivels to the left or right. Before making a purchase, please check the installation dimensions on the vehicle. The PARAVAN transfer seat base models meet the quality standards of the German technical inspection agency TÜV, are made in Germany, and have been successfully crash tested in accordance with the regulations ECE-R 17 and 74/408/EEC. In addition, they hold DAR (German Accreditation Council) register no. KBA – P 00013-01.
Correct use
In its function and design, the PARAVAN transfer seat base is intended for a
comfortable transition from a wheelchair to a car seat, and vice versa.
Technical data
Every transfer seat base has a serial number. You can find this on the type plate affixed to the transfer seat base.
Operation of the PARAVAN transfer seat base
To operate the PARAVAN transfer seat base, there are three different options:
- Control panel at the seat
- Wired remote control
- Radio remote control
Control panel on the seat
The PARAVAN transfer seat base is very easy to operate thanks to a control
panel mounted on the side next to the seat. For each of the three possible
functions:
- Linear adjustment
- Height adjustment
- Swivelling there is a separate double rocker switch available
- Swivelling
- Linear adjustment
- Height adjustment
Operating with the remote control

Wired remote control
The PARAVAN transfer seat base can be operated by a wired remote control. With this operating option, the control panel on the seat is replaced by a relay box. -
Radio remote control
To offer even more independence from location, the PARAVAN transfer seat base is also available with a radio remote control. With this operating option, a control panel is mounted on the seat. The transfer seat base can then be operated using both options.
DANGER! Danger of injury for persons when operating the PARAVAN transfer seat base incorrectly. Material damage to the transfer seat base and the vehicle
- To drive the vehicle, the transfer seat base must be driven forward fully until the locking bolt engages. Only then can a safe journey be guaranteed. If the locking bolt is not engaged, you will hear a beeping sound as a warning. The transfer seat base is not for seat length adjustment, but only for transfer. If the final seat position is not correct, this must be adjusted using the mechanical or electrical seat length adjustment feature available. The beeper is activated when the ignition is on.
Emergency release
If there is an emergency situation in which it is necessary to rescue the passenger on the PARAVAN transfer seat base from the vehicle, two emergency operating devices (emergency releases) are available:
- Emergency release for horizontal motion
- Emergency release for swivel motion
Emergency release for horizontal motion
With the help of the emergency release, the automatic locking of the
horizontal conveyor can be released, so that the seat can be pushed backwards
manually, unobstructed. The emergency release of the PARAVAN transfer seat
base is located on the back of the seat base. This is a lever featuring a
locking button. Push the red lever down until the black locking button
engages. The seat can now be moved in the horizontal direction. To release the
emergency release, pull the locking button backwards. The lever will then snap
upwards again. Please contact the PARAVAN workshop after each time you
activate the emergency release.
CAUTION: Danger of injury when operating the PARAVAN transfer seat base. Material damage when operating the PARAVAN transfer seat base incorrectly.
- Please make sure that nothing gets caught when you operate the transfer seat base.
- When you lock the transfer seat base again, make sure you do so correctly
- Make sure that the locking bolt engages
Emergency release for swivel motion
This emergency release is for deactivating the electric drive for the swivel
motion. It is also located at the back end of the PARAVAN transfer seat base,
beneath the top platform. Here, you will find a small lever featuring a red
ball knob. To the side of this, you will find a small locking plate. At the
top left is a silver safety latch, which must be operated in addition to the
red ball handle. Depending on the design (swivelling to the right or left),
the arrangement is as shown, or the mirror image of this.
Carry out the following steps:
- Fold the locking plate upwards
- Push the red ball handle to the right
- Push the silver safety latch towards the ball handle and hold it there.
The seat base can now be swivelled by hand.
DANGER!
Danger to life when emergency release is activated on the transfer seat base.
- If the emergency release has been activated on the transfer seat base, do not drive the vehicle under any circumstances.
