D-Link DSL-G604T Wireless ADSL Router
Product Information
This product is the DSL-G604T Wireless ADSL Router. It allows you to share your high-speed internet connection with other computers. The router acts as a DHCP server and assigns the necessary IP address information on your network. It is compatible with any current web browser, such as Internet Explorer 6 or Netscape Navigator 6.2.3.
The package includes the following items
- DSL-G604T Wireless ADSL Router
- Antenna and stand
- CD-ROM containing Manual and Warranty
- Ethernet Cable (CAT5 UTP Straight-Through)
- ADSL Cable (standard telephone cable)
- 12V, 1.2A Power Adapter (Do not use a power adapter with a different voltage rating as it will void the warranty)
Product Usage Instructions
Connecting the Router to your Computer
- Connect the power adapter to the power input at the back panel of the DSL-G604T and plug the other end into a wall outlet or power strip. The Power LED on the front of the device should turn ON.
- Insert one end of the Ethernet cable into an Ethernet (LAN) port on the back panel of the DSL-G604T and the other end into an Ethernet Adapter or available Ethernet port on your computer.
- Insert the telephone cable included with the Router into the ADSL port, then connect the cable to your telephone line.
- Check the LED display on the front of the Router to confirm that the connections have been made.
Configure IP Settings
To connect to the network, make sure the network adapter in your computer
is configured properly. Follow these steps to configure the network adapter to
obtain an IP address automatically for the DSL-G604T Wireless ADSL Router
- For Microsoft Windows XP, go to Start > select Settings > click Control Panel > Double-click on the Network Connections icon.
- Double-click on Network Connections.
- Right-click the Local Area Connection icon, and then select Properties.
- In the Properties dialog box, click on Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and then click Properties.
- Select “Obtain an IP address automatically”.
- Click OK.
Connecting Additional Computers To The DSL-G604T Wireless ADSL Router
Using additional Ethernet (CAT5 UTP) cables, connect your Ethernet-equipped
computers to the LAN ports on the back panel of the DSL-G604T.

Connecting the Router to your Computer
- First, connect the power adapter to the power input at the back panel of the DSL-G604T and then plug the other end of the power adapter to a wall outlet or power strip. On the front of the device, the Power LED will turn ON to indicate proper operation.
- Insert one end of the Ethernet cable into an Ethernet (LAN) port on the back panel of the DSL-G604T and the other end of the cable to an Ethernet Adapter or available Ethernet port on your computer.
- Insert the telephone cable included with the Router into the ADSL port, then connect the cable to your telephone line.
- Check the LED display on the front of the Router to confirm that the connections have been made.

For Microsoft Windows XP
The dialog box displays with a list of currently installed network items.
Make the choice to get IP settings assigned automatically.
Connecting Additional Computers To The DSL-G604T
Wireless ADSL Router
- Using additional Ethernet (CAT5 UTP) cables, connect your Ethernet-equipped computers to the LAN ports on the back panel of the DSL-G604T.
- When you have completed the steps in this Quick Installation Guide, your connected network should look similar to this
Configuring the Router
You can select two methods to configure your new router. The first method is
by using D-Link Click’n Connect Utility, which is included on the CD designed
to run on Windows XP/2000. Just follow the instructions step by step to
configure your router for Internet access for the first time.
The second method is to use your Web browser to access the built in web server
pages used to setup the Router, your computer’s network adapter must be
configured to “Obtain an IP address automatically”, that is, you must set the
IP network settings of your computer so it is DHCP Client. If you are using
Windows XP and do not know how to change your network settings, skip ahead to
Appendix and follow the instructions provided. You may also read the User
Manual for instructions on changing IP settings for computers running other
Windows operating systems.
The Home screen appears. Click on the Setup tab to bring up the Setup menu.
Click the Connection 1 button to go to the configuration menu to make the Internet connection.
Configuring the WAN Connection
Check your ISP information,
- If you configure for PPPoA type, refer to Manual .
- If you configure for PPPoE type, refer to Manual .
- If you configure for Bridge type, refer to Manual .
- If you configure for DHCP type, refer to Manual .
- If you configure for CLIP ty pe, refer to Manual
In the Connection 1 window, type the Username and Password used to verify the identity of your ISP account. Click the Apply button when you have entered the information.
Configure Connection 1 for PPPoA
To configure the default connection type (PPPoA) for Connection 1, follow the
steps listed below. To change the connection type of Connection 1 to an
alternative type follow the instructions according to the desired type as
described below in change the connection type.
To configure Connection 1 for PPPoE, follow the steps listed below. Some of the settings do not need to be changed the first time the device is set up, but can be changed later if you choose.
To configure the WAN connection for Bridge, perform the steps listed below. Some of the settings do not need to be changed the first time the device is set up, but can be changed later if you choose.
Configure Connection 1 for DHCP for WAN
To configure the WAN connection for DHCP, perform the steps listed below. Some
of the settings do not need to be changed the first time the device is set up,
but can be changed later if you choose.
To configure the WAN connection for CLIP, perform the steps listed below. Some of the settings do not need to be changed when you first set up the device but can be changed later if you choose.
Wireless Configuration
For first-time setup, accept the default settings for SSID and Channel, and bypass security by clicking None. These settings may be changed later by following instructions as given in the User’s Guide.
Important Note : This Quick Installation Guide is designed to allow a first- time user to install and operate the Router easily, in order to ensure that everything is in working order. For more advanced configuration settings, particularly to do with security parameters, please consult the User’s Guide that accompanies the Router.
