FTF**| Forest Tractive Force (FTF) :
The FTF value stands for the maximum capacity of the winch to be used with
this pulley.
| Not designed for lifting.
| DO NOT USE for lifting people.
| Maximum rope diameter in millimeters.
INSTALLATION AND ANCHORING
– 3.1 – DEVIATION AND BLOCK-AND-TACKLE PULLING
Pulleys are useful for redirecting the rope to the correct angle or for
increasing the pulling capacity by means of a block-and-tackle system.
The pulleys have two main functions:
DEVIATION: A deflection pulley is HIGHLY recommended. A single pulley is used
to change the angle of traction (upwards or to the side) or to keep the rope
away from the ground. For example, a deflection pulley used on a steep slope
allows the operator to
maintain the winch leveled. On level ground, a small angle reduces friction on
the system and premature wear of the rope.
The photo below illustrates a typical deviation. The winch remains aligned
with the pulley; it does not matter if the load moves from left to right.
BLOCK-AND-TACKLE: When working with ropes, pulleys are very useful to
create a mechanical advantage, i.e. multiply the force applied to move a load.
With the right number of pulleys, it is possible to move loads heavier than
two, three and even four times the force applied.
A set of ropes and pulleys arranged to gain mechanical advantage is called a
tackle. We also talk about block and tackle (double, triple, quadruple, etc.).
When using pulleys to increase the force, the pulling speed is reduced by the
same factor.
ANCHORING: In general, each pulley should be attached to a solid anchor
point using a carabiner and a sling, respecting the appropriate safety factor.

GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS
When using and setting up, always wear gloves. Please also keep away any non- competent and / or unwanted person from your work area. Immediately before and after each use, make a visual and functional inspection of this equipment to ensure its good working order and proper functioning.
Perform a functional check:
a. Do the flanges move easily?
b. If the anchoring opening shows unusual marks, deformation or cracks, do not
use the pulley. Withdraw or return to manufacturer for evaluation.
c. Retaining ring (PCA-1275/1283) or locking nuts (PCA-1273/1274): Check
whether the retaining ring or the locknuts are securely in place. Never remove
the retaining ring as you risk deforming it. Never unscrew a locking nut
because it would lose its locking effect.
d. Sheaves: Inspect for marks, deformation, corrosion, and that there is no
material lodged between the sheave and the flange. Make sure the pulley turns
freely.
e. Axial play: A small play is normal. If the sheave oscillates from a side to
side, this could indicate excessive wear of the shaft and / or bushing.
A thorough examination should be carried out at least once a year by a competent person or more frequently depending on the local legislation, intensity of use or external factors such as temperature, effects of chemicals, rust, abrasion, or other damages. All inspections should be recorded in an equipment log book like the one presented in this document. The user must be aware of its history (use, storage, inspection, etc.). If you have any doubts about the security of this equipment, it must be immediately withdrawn from circulation and checked by a competent person.
DO NOT :
- use an anchoring that prevents the pulley from pivoting properly;
- use the pulley open;
- use with a steel cable;
- overload;
- stand in the rotation axis of the pulley on the sling;
- stand in the resulting force line if the anchoring breaks;
- stand in the line of a moving load;
- lift objects (except qualified professionals (PCA-1273, PCA-1274));
- lift people;
- repair, alter, modify, or mark.
CLEANING, STORAGE AND TRANSPORT
Cleaning: if necessary, clean with mild household detergent and rinse
with clean water. Rinse thoroughly and dry naturally in a warm and ventilated
room away from direct heat.
Important: cleaning is recommended after each use in marine environment.
Storage and Transportation: This product should be stored in a clean and dry
environment free from chemicals or corrosive products and protected from
excessive heat or high humidity.
LIFETIME
This product has an unlimited shelf life. However, this product must be
withdrawn from circulation under the following conditions:
a. General wear;
b. Deformation, cracks, mechanical dysfunction;
c. Chemical contamination, corrosion;
d. Illegible marking.
