GENERAL OPERATION
The BERTSCHAT® hooded vest heats the body by means of heating elements, supplied in electricity by a USB power bank. The vest can provide warmth at 3 different heat settings which can be adjusted by pressing the button on the chest. The power banks is stored in the pocket on the side of the vest where the connecting plugs is located.
SWITCHING ON THE HEATING
Connect the vest to the powerbank and switch it on. The button located on the
chest is used to switch on the hoodie. The temperature can be adjusted by
pressing the button again. Active LED lights indicate that the vest is
heating. After this, the heating position can be adjusted by clicking on the
button. The vest has three heating positions. The vest starts at the warmest
position when switched on.
The button lights up in the colour that corresponds with the set heating
position:
- High setting: Red
- Medium setting: White
- Low setting: Blue
OPERATING TIME
The heating duration of the vest depends on several factors: primarily the
ambient temperature and secondly the level of insulation worn under and over
the vest. Lastly, a high setting will obviously deplete the batteries faster
than any of the lower settings. It should also be noted that the batteries
only reach their full charging capacity after a few charging cycles.
Consider ordering an additional battery pack for longer use time.
SWITCHING OFF
The heating function is switched off by pressing the button until the LEDs no
longer light up or alternatively by simply disconnecting the batteries.
After use of the vest, always disconnect the batteries and keep them stored in
their intended pocket. Store the vest and the batteries in a dry and clean
environment at room temperature.
ENERGY CONSUMPTION & POWER BANK
The vest works on any 5V USB power source, such as a telephone charger or
laptop USB connection. For mobile use a power bank will be necessary. Although
any power bank with a 5V USB connection can be used in combination with the
vest, BERTSCHAT® recommends using the separately available BERTSCHAT® power
bank designed for this use.
Most USB power banks are equipped with a 1A or 2.1A connection. Though the
vest will work on a 1A connection it will be able to generate more heat when
connected to a 2.1A connection. However, when using the 2.1A connection, the
power bank will deplete more quickly because more power is used.
It goes without saying that the more capacity the utilized power bank has, the
longer it will be able to heat. Some power banks must be switched on manually
before they provide power. Both the power bank and the vest will then have to
be switched on before the vest can become warm.
Operating the BERTSCHAT® power bank (separately available)
- Switching on: press the button once. By means of the indicator LEDS, you can read how much power remains.
- Switching off: press the button once more.
ADDITIONAL INSTRUCTIONS

WASHING INSTRUCTIONS
There are heating elements in the vest, which are sturdy, but can get damaged when handled roughly. Handle the vest with care to prevent damage. Carefully place the power bank in the pocket. Do not allow the power cable of the vest to kink. Make sure the USB plug and cable are not subjected to excessive force.
- Only use a wool wash or hand wash programme! Use mild detergent and treat the hoodie with care.

- Do not dry clean the vest.

TROUBLESHOOTING
If you notice that the vest doesn’t get warm, you can execute the following test:

Check if the 4 white LED lights activate when pressing the button. -
Is the power bank connected correctly?
Check that the power bank is properly connected to the plug. -
Is the plug of the vest free from contaminations?
Dirt in the plug could block the connection. -
Test if the vest is working as follows: connect the vest to a fixed USB power source, such as a smartphone charger. If the vest is working, it is possible that the power bank is defective.
-
Does the power bank not have sufficient power?
Try a different/stronger power bank with a minimum output of 2.1A.
