APEX CANOPY INSTRUCTIONS

Safety

1.1. Introduction
Your Reimann & Georger Corporation Marine Products Canopy has been engineered to provide long term boat protection and safety advantages that no other type can match. However, even a well-designed and well-built canopy can malfunction or become hazardousin the hands of an inexperienced and/or untrained user. Therefore, read this manual and related equipment manuals thoroughly before installing your canopy to provide maximum safety for all personnel, and to get the maximum benefit from your equipment.

DO NOT OPERATE THIS LIFT WITHOUT STUDYING THIS ENTIRE MANUAL. FAILURE TO DO THIS CAN LEAD TO EQUIPMENT MISUSE WITH RESULTING SERIOUS PERSONAL INJURY AND/OR DAMAGE. CONTACT YOUR RGC MARINE DEALER IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS.
1.2. Safety Definitions
A safety message alerts you to potential hazards that could hurt you or others or cause property damage. The safety messages or signal words for product safety signs are DANGER, WARNING, and CAUTION. Each safety message is preceded by a safety alert symbol and is defined as follows:
DANGER: Indicates an imminently hazardous situation that, if not avoided, will cause death or serious injury. This safety message is limited to the most extreme situations.
WARNING: Indicates a potentially hazardous situation which, if not avoided, could result in death or serious injury.
CAUTION: Indicates a potentially hazardous situation which, if not avoided, may result in minor or moderate injury. It may also be used to alert against unsafe practices and property-damage-only accidents.
1.3. Equipment Safety Labels
These labels warn you of potential hazards that could cause injury. Read them carefully. If a label comes off or becomes illegible, contact a Reimann & Georger Corporation dealer for a free replacement.
1.4. Equipment And Personnel Safety

1. Immediately replace any parts found to be defective.
2. Do not use any part of the canopy kit for anything other than its designed purpose.
3. If your lift is equipped with a handwheel, never reach through the spokes of the handwheel to perform any installation or maintenance on the canopy. If the handwheel starts to spin freely, do not try to stop it. This can cause serious injury.
4. Do not try operating the lift while installing or adjusting the canopy.
5. When installing the canopy, ensure that all nuts and bolts are tightened securely.
6. Anchor a canopy-equipped lift to the lake bottom to prevent high winds from toppling it. This protection is especially important when the boat does not weigh down the lift.

1.5. Installation Safety

1. Do not install the canopy if it shows any signs of damage.

2. Do not weld or otherwise modify any part of the canopy kit. Such alterations may weaken the structural integrity of the canopy installation and void the warranty.

3. Do not try to install the canopy under the influence of drugs, alcohol, or medication.

4. Ensure that the lift frame is level and square before installing the canopy.

5. Do not install the canopy in rough water conditions.

6. Keep people and pets clear during installation of the canopy.

7. The following precautions must be observed when lifting any part of this equipment:
   a. Be sure of your footing.
   b. Bend your knees and lift with your legs.
   c. Hold the equipment section close to your body when lifting.

8. Do not stand or climb on any part of the lift when installing the canopy.

Installation and Setup

2.1. Prior to Setup

1. Examine your canopy upon receipt and check that it is complete and undamaged. Refer to the parts lists in Chapter 4.
   Report any shipping damage on the delivery receipt and contact the delivering carrier to file a damaged freight claim. Do not install the canopy if it shows any signs of damage.

2. Read and know the instructions and ensure that everyone understands the proper installation procedure.

3. Do not install the canopy under the influence of drugs, alcohol, or medication.

4. Do not try to install the canopy in rough water conditions or high winds.

5. Ensure that the lift frame is square and that the lift sets level.

2.2. Required Tools and Supplies

• Anti-seize lubricant (included)
• 7/32” hex drive socket & ratchet
• 9/16” end wrench
• 3/4” socket
• 3/4” end wrench
• Ø13/32” drill bit
• Ø23/32” or Ø3/4” drill bit
• Drill
• 12’ 2×4 (14’ for 132” wide canopy)
• 4x 18” lengths of rope
• Level

2.3. Parts Identification
Familiarize yourself with the parts to be assembled.

2.4. Stringer Assembly
Work in a suitably large area near the canopy’s install location, on a level surface. Begin by laying out the stringers as shown below. Stainless fasteners are prone to galling when installed dry. Lubricate all fasteners with the supplied anti-seize compound.

1. Insert the right hand corner stringer (1) into the middle stringer (4). Place bracket (6) against middle stringer (4), and bolt together.
2. Insert the left hand corner stringer (2) into the other side of the middle stringer (4). Place bracket (6) against middle stringer (4), and bolt together.
3. Repeat steps 1 and 2 on the other side of the canopy.Line up the end stringer (3) with the corner stringer (1). Add bracket (7) and bolt together as shown.
4. Install plastic end cap (17) in the open end of stringer (3), using a rubber mallet if necessary.
5. Repeat steps 4-5 at the three remaining corners of the canopy.

2.5. Ridge Assembly

1. Bolt a ridge bracket (5) to the end of the ridge tube (8) as shown (above left).
2. Bolt a ridge bracket (5) to the middle of the ridge tube (8) as shown (above right).
3. Repeat steps 1 & 2 for the second ridge tube.
4. Connect the two ridge tubes (5) together using a ridge bracket as shown (below).

1. Identify the ribs and lay them out at the proper locations as shown above.
2. Connect the ribs to the stringer brackets (below left) and the ridge bracket slots (below right) loosely.
3. Once all the ribs are connected and the ridge and stringers are square, tighten all bolts to approximately 17 ft-lbs.
4. With the canopy frame assembled and on the ground, this is a convenient time to measure out lacing rope. Measure and cut two lengths of lacing rope, each one twice as long as the long side of the frame. Then measure and cut two lengths, each twice as long as the short ends of the frame. Set these aside until section 2.9.

2.7. Attaching Legs and Frame to Boat Lift

1. Fasten leg extension support (30) to the boat lift with bolt (38) and nut (39).
2. Insert leg extension (31) into leg extension support (30). Select the hole in leg extension (31) that gives the desired canopy height. Secure leg extension with bolt (38 ) and nut(39).
3. Secure a 12’ 2×4 (not supplied) to the top of the leg extensions for use during installation. Ensure that all four legs are plumb at this time.
4.  The completed frame is heavy (200-300 lbs) and requires at least four people to lift. Lift the left side of the frame over the leg extensions and onto the 2x4s. Lift the right side of the frame, allowing the left side to slide across the 2x4s toward the leg extensions on the far side of the lift. Position the frame as desired fore/aft, then set the frame on the top of all four leg extensions.
5. Ensure there are no stringer brackets that would interfere with mounting. Move the frame a few inches fore or aft if required.
6. Drill two 13/32” holes through both walls of the stringer tube, vertically centered on the stringer and 1-1/2” apart. Enlarge the hole in the outer wall of the stringer to 23/32” or 3/4”.
7. Bolt the canopy frame to the leg extension using bolt (36), washer (12), nut (13), and spacer (35).
8. Repeat steps 6 & 7 at each corner of the lift, checking each leg for plumb.
9. Remove the temporary wooden supports.

2.8. Diagonal Brace

1. Near the top of the leg extension support (30), drill a 13/32” hole. Attach the diagonal brace using 3/8×5” bolt (37), washer (12) and nut (13), as shown below left.
2. Bring the diagonal brace up to meet the stringer, and mark for two drilled holes, 1-1/2” apart, vertically near the center of the stringer. Drill 13/32” holes through both walls of the stringer. Enlarge the holes on the inboard side of the stringer to 23/32” or 3/4”.
3. Attach the diagonal brace (32) to the stringer with bolt (36), spacer (35), washer (12), and nut (13).
4. Repeat steps 1-3 for the other side.

2.9. Fabric

1. Set the bundle of fabric at the center of the frame, at the middle of the ridge. Unfold the bundle toward the left and right sides of the frame.
2. Unroll the fabric toward the front of the frame, then toward the back.
3. Ensure the fabric is lying flat. Guide the reinforced pockets at the corners of the fabric to the corners of the frame.
4. Lace the fabric to the stringer’s lacing rail. Start at the middle of a side of the canopy, securing the middle of the lacing rope to the lacing rail with a half hitch knot.
5. Feed a free end of the lacing rope through an eyelet on the fabric, then back around the lacing rail, then through the next eyelet of the fabric, drawing the rope tight after each eyelet. When reaching the corner of the frame, knot the lacing rope to the lacing rail with a more secure knot, such as a clove hitch.
6. Repeat for the other free end of the rope, working from the center of the frame to a corner.
7. Repeat steps 4-6 for the opposite side of the canopy, then for the two short ends of the canopy.
8. When the fabric is taut and the lacing rope is secured all the way around, trim off any excess lacing rope.

Inspection & Maintenance

3.1. General Maintenance Rules

1. Do not stand or climb on any part of the lift when doing maintenance on the canopy.
2. If your lift is equipped with a handwheel, never reach through the spokes of the handwheel to perform any maintenance on the canopy. If the handwheel starts to spin freely, do not try to stop it. This can cause serious injury.
3. Do not let anybody operate the lift while doing maintenance on the canopy.
4. Check canopy regularly for defects. Do not continue using the canopy if it shows any signs of damage. Tighten all bolts at this time.
5. The canopy fabric should be cleaned regularly before substances such as dirt or bird droppings are allowed to accumulate and become embedded in the fabric. To clean, brush off any loose dirt, clean and hose down with a MILD solution of natural soap in lukewarm water (no warmer than 100°F), and rinse thoroughly to remove the soap. Do NOT use detergents. Allow canopy to air dry. It is not necessary to remove the canopy when cleaning it.
6. If the lacing rope should need to be replaced, use a 1/8” sash cord with a tensile strength of 100 lbs or greater.

3.2. Storage Procedure

1. Protect your canopy as far as possible from damage caused by environmental factors such as airborne fallout, chemicals, tree sap, and weather hazards.
2. Do not leave the fabric on the framework during off-season. The framework and fabric are not designed to handle top loading such as wet leaves or snow.
3. Store in a cool, dry place. Do not put the fabric away wet or dirty. Protect it by storing it in the original plastic bag.

This product is warranted by RGC® Marine Products to the original purchaser to be free from defects in material and workmanship under normal use for a period of two years from the date of purchase.
During the warranty period, and upon proof of purchase, the product will be repaired or replaced (with the same or similar model) at our option, without charge for either parts or labor when serviced at RGC® Marine Products.
Upon completion of repair, the unit will be returned to the customer freight prepaid. The warranty will not apply to this product if it has been misused, abused, or altered.
NEITHER THIS WARRANTY OR ANY OTHER WARRANTY, EXPRESS OR IMIPLIED, INCLUDING IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, SHALL EXTEND BEYOND THE WARRANTY PERIOD. NO RESPONSIBILITY IS ASSUMED FOR ANY INCIDENTAL OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES. SOME STATES DO NOT ALLOW EXCLUSION OR LIMITATION OF INCIDENTAL OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES, SO THE ABOVE LIMITATIONS OR EXCLUSIONS MAY NOT APPLY TO YOU.
This warranty gives you specific legal rights, and you may also have other rights which vary from state to state.
