Congratulations on the purchase of this WAYSCRAL power-assisted bicycle!
This guide intends to give you the information necessary for correctly using, adjusting and maintaining your bicycle and safety information.
Please read this guide carefully before the first use and keep it for the entire time you use the bicycle. It is the user’s responsibility to read this guide before using the product.
Failure to comply with these instructions exposes you to the risks of improper use of your bicycle or premature wear of certain components which may cause a fall and/or an accident.
If an original part is found to be defective in terms of manufacture during its warranty period, we undertake to replace it.

The warranty period for power-assisted bicycles is as follows:

• Frames and forks : 5 years
• Electrical components : 2 years with proper care and maintenance
• All other components (other than usual wear and tear): 2 years

This warranty does not include labour and transportation costs. The company cannot be held responsible for out of the ordinary damage or damage due to a combination of circumstances. This warranty is only valid for the original purchaser of the product, with proof of purchase to support their claim. This warranty applies only in the case of defective components and does not cover normal wear and tear, damage caused by accident, improper use, overload, improper assembly or maintenance and any other purpose not intended for use with the bicycle. Claims must be submitted through your retailer.

This bicycle is designed for urban and suburban use to be used on public ways (roads, cycle paths and lanes or on a paved surface where the tyres are always in contact with the ground). This bicycle is not intended for off-road use, competition, stunt riding, jumping or similar activities.
This bicycle is equipped with power assistance that will make all your daily trips easier, so you can go further and for longer. Your power-assisted bicycle is an adult bicycle for people over the age of 14. If the bicycle is used by a child, responsibility falls to the parents who must supervise and ensure that the user is able to use the bicycle safely.

Choose a safe place away from traffic to familiarize yourself with your new bicycle. The assistance will be triggered, check that your handlebar is straight and that the road is clear.
Make sure you are in good health before getting on your bike.
In the event of unusual weather conditions (rain, cold, night, etc.), be particularly vigilant and adapt your speed and your reactions accordingly.
The user must comply with the requirements of the national regulations when the bicycle is used on public roads (lighting and signalling for example).

When transporting your bicycle on the outside of your vehicle (bicycle rack, roof rack, etc.), it is strongly recommended to remove the battery from your bicycle and use equipment suitable for a power-assisted bicycle.

Your bicycle has been carefully designed and manufactured in accordance with the requirements of the  European standard EN 15194.

II. Using your power-assisted bicycle

This power-assisted bicycle can be used with or without assistance.
Once activated, the electric assistance works after the pedals are turned. The operating principle is based on a cadence sensor which, after detecting the pedals turning, activates the electric assistance. So, the slower the rotation, the more assistance is put in place.

However, please note that the assistance varies according to the speed of the bicycle:
– it is high when starting,
– less high when the bicycle is in movement,
– then above 25 km/h, the assistance cuts out. It will automatically resume when the speed is lower. You can go faster, but you will have to do it on your own, without any power assistance.

To activate the assistance:

– Press once on the button at the top of the battery then

– Press and hold the start/stop button on the display (3  seconds)

To deactivate it:

– press and hold the button on the display (3 seconds) and – press and hold the button at the bottom of the battery for a  few seconds.

When the battery is turned off, it no longer supplies power to  your bicycle’s motor. After a certain period of inactivity, the  display is switched off to save energy.

To reset the display of the kilometre counter, press and hold  the Mode button after turning on the display. The “Trip” logo  will flash.

Press the Mode button.

Use the ∧ or ∧ buttons to make your choice and press the  Mode button to confirm.

Press and hold the M button to save your choices and exit the  setting mode.

In the event of a fault, the symbol indicates a failure.  Various error codes are also displayed.

When an error code is displayed, first restart the system  following the solution suggested in the table below. If the problem persists or if another code appears, please  contact your retailer.

When the light is stable or flashing red, the battery must be  recharged before the bicycle can be used. Refer to the battery  section for how to charge.

c) Assistance level

You can choose between several levels of assistance. Press the  ∧ or ∧ buttons to select the level of your choice. Each level of  assistance corresponds to an assistance mode. The lowest level  is OFF and the highest level is 5:

d) Pedestrian mode

When you are walking next to your bicycle, you  can choose to activate the pedestrian mode, which is used as a walking aid. This mode activates  the motor even if you are not pedalling, however,  this assistance does not exceed 6 km/h.

Press and hold the Pedestrian Button to use this  function. As soon as you release the Pedestrian Button, the  walking aid stops.

WARNING: Never use this function while sitting  on the bicycle! Only use pedestrian mode when  walking next to the bicycle.

e) Battery

Press the LED indicator button at the top of the battery any time to view the battery charge.

The battery powers the motor of your bicycle, it is placed in a wheel clamp on the downtube and it is directly connected to the control box located on the handlebars.

Refer to the battery description diagram for the location of the charging connector.
If a power outlet is available near your bicycle, you can charge the battery directly on the bicycle without having to detach it. Otherwise, remove the battery from the bicycle (see previous section).

During charging,
– the indicator light on the charger will light up red to show that it is charging. It turns green when the battery is charged.
– the LED indicator on the battery flashes green to indicate that charging is underway and turns blue when the battery is charged. Press the LED indicator button on the battery to check the charging level.
To finish the charging, disconnect the power plug and then the connector linked to the battery. Then replace the cover on the battery connector.

RECOMMANDATIONS:
– The battery should be charged indoors in a ventilated area.
– The battery can be charged using a standard power outlet. You do not need to activate its switch.
– Always lock the battery being used with the key.
– Ensure that the key is removed and kept in a safe place.
– Check that the lock (left side of the frame) is always locked when in use
– Do not attempt to insert or remove your battery while the lock is locked: you could break the safety device on your battery.

III. Preparation for use

You can adjust various features of your bicycle for optimum comfort and performance.
a) Measuring and adjusting the seat height for the cyclist’s body shape
– Insert the seat post into the seat tube.
– Adjust the height of the seat tube to the user’s body shape without going past the minimum insertion mark on the seat tube. This insertion mark should never be visible when the bicycle is in use.

Tip: To find the height of your seat, sit on the bicycle and place one heel on the pedal in the low position (position B), with the crank arm parallel to the seat post. When your leg is straight, the seat height is correct.

b) Measuring and adjusting the handlebar height for the cyclist’s body shape

Your bike is equipped with a plunger-type stem with a lever system that allows you to adjust both the height and the inclination of the handlebars without using tools.

– The screw under the lever, positioned horizontally, allows the clamping tension to be adjusted.
– A second screw, positioned vertically on the inside and only accessible when the stem is positioned at right angles, allows the vertical position of the stem to be adjusted. Make sure you never go past the minimum insertion mark or to the stop. This insertion mark should never be visible when the bicycle is in use.

c) Brake operation and adjustment
Before each use, check that the front and rear brakes are in perfect working order.
The front brake is operated by the left-hand brake lever.
The back brake is operated by the right-hand brake lever.

Brakes are a key element of cyclist safety. They must be checked before each use and regularly maintained and adjusted.
It is recommended that you distribute your braking force approximately 60/40 between the front and rear.
Your bicycle is fitted with disc brakes. This system is based on pads which exert pressure on a disc attached to the wheel hub. The intensity of the pressure is controlled by a lever with a cable. Do not operate the brake lever when the wheel is detached from the frame.
To align the disc brake caliper:
– Loosen the fixing bolts of the brake caliper bracket.
– Brake with the corresponding brake lever (the brake caliper is positioned correctly) and hold the brake lever in this position while tightening the caliper bracket fixing screws.
– Release the brake lever and check that the brake pads are positioned at 0.2 – 0.4 mm from the disc. If this is not the case and you are not familiar with this operation, contact a qualified technician.
– Never spray oil or any lubricant on the disc or pads (when servicing the chain or the derailleur, for example). If this happens, you should remove the grease from the pads and disc, or replace them.
– Check the alignment of the pads by turning the wheel.
Tip: Brake pads are standard, replace them when your pad no longer has a friction component. Remember that new brake pads must be broken in. They are broken in by riding for a few minutes and alternating between sudden stops and light braking.
Recommendations for brake adjustment and friction component replacement
– The brake lever should not be in contact with the handlebars.
– The sheaths should not be bent at right angles or folded so that the cables can slide with a minimum of friction.
– Disc brakes should be checked regularly: Check all brake bolts and brake pads for wear, their thickness should not be less than 1 mm.
– Brake adjustment must be carried out in accordance with the instructions provided in the previous section. It is advisable to have these adjustments carried out by a qualified mechanic.
– When replacing friction components in the brake system, use original parts to ensure that the performance of your bicycle is maintained.
– Brake pad recommendations: Refer to the specifications table.
WARNING: Do not touch the disc brakes after heavy use of the braking system on your power-assisted bicycle, as they could burn you.

d) Mounting the pedals

– The right-hand pedal has a normal thread, screw it in clockwise with a crank arm.
– The left-hand pedal thread is reversed, screw it in anti-clockwise.

e) Tension and adjusting the chain

If the bike is equipped with a derailleur, the chain is automatically tense.

f) Gear operation and adjustment

The higher the number, the harder it is to pedal.
The range of movement of the external derailleur is adjusted by means of the two derailleur screws H and L:
– the L screw (high stop) adjusts the derailleur position limit when the chain is on the large sprocket. The tighter it is, the more limited the derailleur is in its movement.
– the H screw (low stop) adjusts the derailleur position limit when the chain is on the small sprocket. The tighter it is, the more limited the derailleur is in its movement.
Adjust by turning the screws clockwise (tighten) or counterclockwise (loosen), in quarter turns.
For the L screw, turn the screw until the tensioner is perfectly aligned with the chain and the large sprocket.
For the H screw, turn the screw until the tensioner is perfectly aligned with the chain and the small sprocket.
The tension of the derailleur cable can be adjusted using the adjustment knob on the outer derailleur. When it is difficult to go up in the gears, you need to increase the tension. When it is difficult to go down, you need to reduce the tension. Then turn the knob accordingly.
WARNING: For optimal use of the gear change system, it is recommended that you do not change gear when you are pedaling hard and that you switch to the most suitable gear change combination before stopping to facilitate restarting.
Attention, never pedal backwards during the gear change and never force the control lever.

g) Suspension adjustment

Your bike is equipped with a 7-gear rear derailleur that can be manually changed.
Use the right-hand lever to make the desired gear change.
Be sure to shift one gear at a time on the speed selector. When shifting gear, reduce the force applied to the pedals. It is recommended to change gears when pedaling slightly.

Your bicycle is fitted with front suspension. This device is made up of cylinders which absorb the shocks.
To adjust the hardness, turn the brown knob on the left side of the fork until the hardness you have chosen is reached.
You can also lock/unlock the suspension system using the blue knob on the right of the fork.

WARNING: The suspension fork and shock absorbers must never be removed by the user. This operation must be performed by a qualified mechanic.

h) Method for determining the correct adjustment of the quick release

mechanisms (seat post)

The seat post has an integrated quick-release system.
Warning: The quick release systems are designed to be operated by hand. Never use tools to block or unblock the mechanism to avoid damaging it. To adjust the clamping force, you must use the adjustment nut located opposite the lever and not turn the quick-release lever.

To adjust, block or unblock the quick release mechanisms:

The lever must show some resistance to opening, for example, it must not be possible to open the locking mechanism with one finger.

i) Wheel lock

The wheels are attached to the frame with nuts. Always ensure that the nuts are properly tightened.
Each time an adjustment is carried out, check that the front wheel is correctly centred in relation to the fork and that the rear wheel is centred between the two rear chainstays.

IV. Accessories

a) Lighting
You are provided with a lighting system that is composed of two lights (a white light attached to the front and a red light attached to the rear) and two orange reflectors positioned between the wheel spokes.
The lighting system is a safety mechanism for your bicycle and as such it must be present on your bike.
Make sure that your lighting system works properly before riding.
Turn the front and rear lights on/off using the display controls: press and hold the ∧ button to activate/deactivate them.

b) Bell
A bell is fitted to your handlebars. It has a range of 50 m.
The bell is a safety device for your bicycle and as such must be present on your handlebars.

c) Kickstand
Before each use, check that your kickstand is folded up. The kickstand has a locking system which is deactivated with a press of the foot.

d) Luggage rack
It attaches to the top of your rear wheel with frame screws. These fixing elements must be tightened and checked regularly at the torque indicated in the specifications table.
The maximum permissible load indicated in the specifications table must not be exceeded.

Maintenance

I. Specific warnings for power-assisted bicycles

Cleaning, electrical or mechanical maintenance operations must be carried out with the power off and the battery removed.
Always follow the recommendations for proper use, do not modify the components or the electrical management system of the bicycle under any circumstances! Modifications are dangerous and prohibited by law.
Your retailer will not be responsible for repairs under any circumstances (warranty cancelled). In addition, you will also be criminally liable for any accidents that occur with the bicycle.

WARNING: Before handling the battery, make sure the switch is in the off position.

II. Cleaning

To avoid corrosion of the bicycle, it should be rinsed in fresh water after every use, especially if it has been exposed to sea air. It should be cleaned with a sponge, a bowl of warm soapy water and a hosepipe (without pressure). Cleaning with water is not recommended.

WARNING: Never use a high pressure water jet cleaner.

III. General maintenance recommendations

Your bicycle needs a certain amount of maintenance. It requires regular servicing, the frequency of which depends on how much you use it.

– Regularly grease the chain, brush the sprockets and chainrings and periodically trickle a few drops of lubricant into the cable sheaths.
– Regularly check the tyres and check for wear and tear: cuts, cracks, pinches, etc. Replace the tyre if necessary. Check the wheel rims for excessive wear, warping, denting or cracks.
Maintenance of your bicycle must be performed by a qualified mechanic.

WARNING: When replacing a component, it is very important to use original brand parts in order to preserve your bicycle’s performance and reliability. This operation must be performed by a qualified mechanic.

IV. Specific maintenance recommendations

a) Recommended tightness for handlebar, seat and wheel fasteners
To ensure that the handlebars, stem, seat and seatpost, and wheels are securely fastened, it is recommended that appropriate wrenches be used and the force should be applied in accordance with the following component-specific tightening torques (in Nm):

b) Lubrication

Lubrication of components is necessary for your bicycle to work as well as possible for as long as possible and to prevent corrosion of components.

– Use special transmission oil for the cables and transmission components.
– Use a specific oil for the chain.
– After washing: dry and oil the transmission components (levers, etc.) and suspension components, the brake lever and caliper axles as well as the chain while taking care not to soil the nearing rim.
– For a good seal, apply enough grease to the seat post and handlebars.

WARNING: With the exception of the chain, the components can be lubricated by a qualified and experienced mechanic during periodic checks.

c) Changing brake pads

– Remove the wheel and remove the worn pads from the brake caliper.
– Position the new pads in the caliper so that the braking surfaces come into contact.
– Insert the pads one after the other into the brake caliper.
– Then adjust the brakes as described in the brake adjustment section.

d) Wheel rim maintenance

Like all parts subject to wear, the wheel rim should be checked regularly.
If you notice any abnormalities (abnormal wear or possible deformation), ask a qualified mechanic to check it over. If your rims have wear indicators, check and replace the rim as soon as necessary.

Safety instructions

I. Recommendations for the safe use of the bicycle

To use the bicycle safely, the use of a helmet as well as protective and/or signalling elements are highly recommended.
When used in the rain or on wet roads, visibility and friction are reduced, braking distances are increased and the user must adapt their speed and anticipate their braking. The condition of wearing parts such as rims, brakes, tyres, steering and transmission must be checked by the user before use and regularly inspected, maintained and adjusted by a qualified and experienced mechanic.
The handlebars and/or the use of an aerodynamic extension or any other component placed on the handlebars can have a negative influence on the response time of the cyclist during braking and cornering.
Check the tire inflation pressure. Inflate the tires to the recommended sidewall pressure.

WARNINGS:
– Failure to follow the instructions and safety precautions may result in an electric shock. Keep these instructions in a safe place.
– The user must comply with the requirements of the national regulations when the bicycle must be used on public roads (lighting and signalling for example).
– Failure to comply with this intended use may result in a fall or an accident and may prematurely and irremediably deteriorate the condition of your power- assisted bicycle. Your bicycle is not designed to be used in sand, water (the hubs and bottom bracket should not be immersed), or salt water. Your bicycle is not designed to be stored outside for long periods of time. It must be stored in a dry and temperate room (without frost) away from corrosive products: products used in a marine environment (e.g. on a ship’s deck), weed killers, acids, solvents, etc.
– As for any mechanical component, a power-assisted bicycle is subject to high stress and will wear out. The different materials and components can react differently to wear or ageing. If the expected service life of a component has been exceeded, it may suddenly break, presenting a risk of injury to the cyclist. Cracks, scratches and discolouration in areas subject to high stress indicate that the component has exceeded its service life and should be replaced.

II. Recommendations for charging the battery

It is recommended that the battery is charged regularly, or after each use. In order to maximise the life of your battery, it is advisable:
– to avoid hot places (ideal charging temperature: 20°C)
– to allow the battery to cool down 30 minutes after using the bicycle.
– to only use the battery with this bike.
– to only use the specific charger supplied to charge the battery of your bicycle.
– to only charge the battery in a properly ventilated area.
– to never use a damaged battery.
– to stop charging the battery if the charge is not complete after the theoretical charging time.
– not to use the battery if it emits an unusual smell, becomes unusually hot or if something seems abnormal.
– to keep the battery out of the reach of children.
– to follow the instructions on the battery label and on the battery charger label.
– charge your battery before a prolonged period of storage and repeat this operation after the storage period.
– not to store the battery when it is out of charge to avoid very low charge which may cause the battery to malfunction.
– in the event of prolonged storage, it is recommended to keep the charge level at about 50%. Refer to the battery indicator section for how to check the charging state of your battery. Recharge the battery if necessary.

WARNINGS:
– The battery life may be reduced if it is in storage for a long time without regular charging as described above.
– Do not use any metal to directly connect two poles of the battery, (+) and (-), as this could cause it to short circuit.
– Never place the battery near a fireplace or other heat source, do not charge it in direct sunlight.
– Do not shake, knock, or drop the battery.
– When the battery pack is removed from the bicycle, keep it out of the reach of children to prevent accidents.
– You must not open the battery.
– Do not expose the battery to liquids.

III. Recommendations for using the charger

WARNING: Before charging the battery, please read the user manual carefully. Failure to follow the instructions and safety precautions may result in an electric shock. Keep these instructions in a safe place.

– Follow the instructions on the battery charger label.
– Do not use this charger near explosive gases or corrosive substances.
– Do not shake, knock, or drop the charger.
– Always protect the charger from rain and humidity; it is for indoor use only.
– The temperature tolerance of this charger is between 0 and 40°C.
– You must not dismantle the charger; in the event of a problem, take the device to a qualified repairer.
– You should only use the charger that came with your electric bike to avoid damage. Note that failure to comply with this constraint will void the warranty.
– When charging, the battery and the charger must be at least 10 cm from the wall, in a dry, ventilated and stable place. Do not place anything in the immediate vicinity of the charger during use. Do not use the charger on an easily flammable surface (e.g., paper, fabric, etc.) or in a flammable environment. Overheating of the charger may cause a fire.
– Do not touch the charger for too long during charging (risk of superficial burns).
– Do not submerge the product.
– Avoid all contact with water when the battery is charging. Do not touch the charger with wet hands.
– Check the condition of the charger, cable and connector before each use. Do not use the charger with a damaged power cord or plugs. Make sure that the charger plug is properly connected to the mains for charging.
– Do not short-circuit the charger pins by using a metal object.
– Disconnect the power supply before connecting or disconnecting the connections to the battery.

This charger is not intended for use by children or persons with physical, sensory or mental disabilities or with a lack of experience or knowledge.
This charger may be used by children aged 14 and over and by persons with physical, sensory or mental disabilities or a lack of experience or knowledge, when under the supervision of a person responsible for their safety or after they have been instructed in the safe use of the charger and have fully understood the hazards inherent in its use. Otherwise, there is a risk of injury and improper use.
Do not leave children unattended during use, cleaning and maintenance. Make sure that children do not play with the charger.
Only use the charger to charge a lithium battery, never charge any other type of battery. The battery voltage must match the charging voltage of the charger. Do not recharge a non-rechargeable battery. Otherwise there is a risk of explosion and fire.
Do not expose the charger to rain or moisture. Water entering inside an electric tool increases the risk of electric shock.
Keep the charger clean. Dirt increases the risk of electric shock.
Do not use the charger if you notice any damage. Do not open the charger yourself. Only have it repaired by a qualified technician using original spare parts.
If the battery is damaged or used improperly, vapours may come out. Ventilate the room and seek medical attention if you feel unwell. The vapours may irritate your respiratory tracts.
Do not cover the ventilation slots of the charger. Otherwise, the charger may overheat and fail to function properly.
The product’s external flexible cable cannot be replaced; if the cord is damaged, the product should be discarded.
At the end of its life, take the product to a recycling centre.
Warning: Protect the springs under the seat if a child seat is installed in order to prevent any risks of fingers becoming trapped.

IV. Recommendations for the installation of luggage carriers and child

seats

Your bicycle is sold with a luggage rack. Refer to the specifications table for the maximum load.
A child seat can be installed according to the installation instructions of the seat manufacturer.
There are several types of instalments:
– installing directly on the frame,
– installing on the luggage rack.
Check that the tightening torques of the screws are correctly followed (refer to the specifications table). In both cases, check that the child seat fits properly before you set off on your bicycle.
If the seat is changed for a spring-loaded saddle, a child seat can be fitted to the electric bicycle only if the seat springs are protected.

WARNING: your power-assisted bicycle is not designed to pull a trailer.

WARNINGS:
– Your luggage rack is not designed to pull a trailer.
– For safety reasons, only luggage must be carried on the luggage rack.
– When the luggage rack is loaded, the bearing of your bicycle changes (particularly steering and braking). Spread the luggage load equally on both sides to help keep your bicycle stable.

– Any luggage or child seat must be securely fastened before each use in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions. It is important to check that nothing is hanging (this risks being caught in the rear wheel).
– Do not make modifications to the luggage rack; any modification to the luggage rack carried out by the user will invalidate these instructions. Luggage should not obscure the reflectors and lights on your bike.

V. Falsification and use of original-brand parts

Please follow all instructions in this manual. Only use original-brand accessories and spare parts, they guarantee that your bicycle will function correctly. Failure to follow the instructions in this manual, deliberately changing for non-original-brand parts and/or modifying the electronics may endanger your safety and void the terms of your bicycle’s warranty.

WARNING: You acknowledge that you are responsible for any loss, injury or damage caused by failure to comply with the above instructions, which will automatically void the warranty.

VI. Transport

Lithium-ion batteries and cells are subject to regulations on the transport of dangerous goods. For road transport, no additional measures are required. For shipment by a third party (e.g. by air transport or via a transport company), specific measures must be taken with regard to packaging and marking. To prepare the shipment, get advice from an expert in the transport of dangerous goods. Only ship batteries whose cases show no damage. Cover the unprotected contacts and pack the battery so that it cannot move around inside the packaging. Please also observe any additional regulations that may apply.

VII. Waste disposal

The chargers and their accessories and packaging should be able to be recycled in a suitable way.

Do not throw away chargers with household waste!
In accordance with the EU Directive 2012/19/EU on waste electrical and electronic equipment and its implementation in accordance with national legislation, chargers that can no longer be used must be set aside and returned to an environmentally friendly collection and recycling centre.
In accordance with the EU Directive 2012/19/EU on waste electrical and electronic equipment and in accordance with the EU Directive 2006/66/EC, used or defective batteries must be disposed of separately and recycled in an environmentally friendly manner.
