Maintenance Guide

Your Embelton Floating Floor is designed with low maintenance in mind. Follow these simple steps to achieve many years of enjoyment from your floor.

Preventative CareTips

  • Sweep or vacuum as often as necessary to remove any loose dirt or grit before it can scratch the timber floor.
  • Any spills should be wiped off the surface of the floor as soon as they occur.
  • In areas of excessive traffic and wear, please make use of runners or area rugs.
  • Use felt protectors under heavy pieces of furniture and chairs.
  • Use protective mats at all exterior entrances. Do not use rubber-based furniture or mats as the rubber may stain the timber floor.
  • Spiked heels or shoes in need of repair can severely damage your timber floor.
  • Embelton “Luxury Oak” is treated with a UV-cured lacquer, which gives it a smooth, easy-to-clean surface. With any wood product, limit the amount of water that is used.
  • Steam mops must not be used.
  • Never use oil soaps, wax, liquid or other household products to clean your timber floor.
  • Keep animal nails trimmed to prevent excess scratching.
  • Protect your timber floor when using a trolley for moving furniture or appliances.
  • Never slide or roll heavy furniture or appliances across the timber floor.
  • Over time, a re-coating may be desirable.
  • Do not use any harsh abrasives while cleaning, this will dull/ scratch your flooring coating.
  • Periodically clean your floor with a well-wrung flat head mop. Use a neutral detergent, maximum pH 8. Please ensure that any water that is applied becomes dry within one – two minutes. We use and recommend Bona Wood Floor Cleaner. For tough/stubborn stains we use Deep Clean solution. Mixture ratio 1:9 mixed with lukewarm water. (1 Lt per 9 Lt water) Do not use hot water.
  • If your timber floor becomes scratched or dull, repairs can often be made using repair accessories. (See the repair section below).
  • Never apply water/solution directly to the floor. Apply via applicator/ flat mop head.
  • Never use long haired mops. This puts too much water on the flooring.
  • If water is visible after moping, you are using too much water.

Proper care and maintenance will extend the life of your timber floor for many years to come.

Restoration

Melton European Oak can be re-coated. It must be noted that due to a brushed finish and micro bevel, sanding should be avoided. Melton timber flooring can easily be re-coated, with the use of a polyad machine.

It is essential that Melton Flooring is contacted prior to any recoating process.

Repairing Scratches

Embelton recommends the following repair accessories:

  • Fordarkertimbers,werecommendGillyStephenson’sScratchCoverfordarkwoodfloors
  • For lighter timbers, we recommend Gilly Stephenson’s Orange Oil for pale wood floors

Please contact Embelton Flooring prior to any major rectification.
