Motorola Concealed Weapons Detection Standard and Wide Mat Swap

Introduction

  • This document outlines the procedure for swapping standard-width lane mats and wide-width lane mats. This procedure applies to Indoor and Outdoor CWD systems.
  • This procedure assumes that the mats are being swapped on a dual-lane system. The procedure for swapping a mat on a Single Lane 1 or a Single Lane 2 system is the same.

Required Tools

You will need the following tools, to swap CWD mats:

  • Star screwdriver
  • Phillips screwdriver
  • Pliers

Shutting Down and Powering Off

Graceful Shut Down

  • If you need to shut down the CWD, you must complete a graceful shut down. To complete a graceful shut down, use the system shutdown command:
  1. Click the Gear icon in the top menu.
  2. Navigate to the Commands tab.
  3. Select System Shutdown. A message will appear notifying you that the system is powering down.
  • The same steps apply for Admin, Supervisor, and Operator accounts. However, you will see more Command options when logged in as an Admin.

Powering Off

NOTICE:  Do not power down the CWD without first completing a Graceful Shut Down on page 3 After 15-20 seconds, the tablet screen will go blank. It is now safe to power off the system.

  1. Unlock and remove the base cover on the bottom of the Lane 1 Transmit tower to access the power switch.

Indoor CWD Models

NOTICE: Before turning off the CWD and swapping mats, complete a graceful shutdown and safely power off the CWD. For instructions, see Shutting Down and Powering Off.

Disconnecting the Towers

  1. Open the base doors of the TX and RX towers.motorola-Concealed-Weapons-Detection-Standard-and-Wide-Mat-Swap-FIG-5
  2. Disconnect all the cables from the TX and RX towers.motorola-Concealed-Weapons-Detection-Standard-and-Wide-Mat-Swap-FIG-6
  3. Remove the RX towers from the mats.

Installing the New Mat

  1. Bring the new mat to the CWD.
  2. Confirm cables have the correct length on either side of the mat. Cable lengths do not have to be an exact measurement.
    • Wide/Original Mats: 20 inches on the RX side, and 12 inches on the TX side.
    • Narrow/Standard Mats: 20 inches on the RX side and 20 inches on the TX side.
  3. Install the new mat in the same configuration as the old mat, hooking the mat to the foot of the TX tower and sliding it into place.motorola-Concealed-Weapons-Detection-Standard-and-Wide-Mat-Swap-FIG-9
Reinstalling the Towers
  1. Reinstall the RX towers onto the mats and reconnect the cables.
  2. Reconnect the cables to the TX tower in the same configuration as they were removed in Step 3.
  3. Gently tuck any excess mat cables under the TX tower.
  4. Reinstall TX and RX tower base covers.

Restarting the CWD

  1. Turn the CWD back on.
  2. Flip the power switch to the ON position.
  3. Replace the Lane 1 base cover.
  4. Allow the system to start-up and complete the Self-Diagnostics tests.
  5. Connect tablets.
  6. Test the system with the OTK test kit.
  7. The system is now ready for operation.

Outdoor Ruggedized CWD Models

NOTICE: Before turning off the CWD and swapping mats, complete a graceful shut down and safely power off the CWD. For instructions, see Shutting Down and Powering Off on.

Disconnecting the Towers

  2. Disconnect all the cables from the TX and RX towers.
  3. Remove the RX towers from the mats.
  4. Slide the mats away from the TX tower. The mats are connected to the base of the TX tower with magnets and a wire lanyard.motorola-Concealed-Weapons-Detection-Standard-and-Wide-Mat-Swap-FIG-14
  5. Disconnect the mat cables from the base of the TX tower.
  6. Disconnect the lanyard and remove the P-clip.motorola-Concealed-Weapons-Detection-Standard-and-Wide-Mat-Swap-FIG-15
  7. Carefully remove the mat cables one at a time from the base of the TX tower. The connections are too large to be removed at the same time.
  8. Remove the mats from the CWD. Store the mats in a secure location where they will not be lost or damaged.

Installing the New Mat

  1. Bring the new mats to the CWD.
  2. Route the cables into the base of the TX tower and reconnect in the same orientation as the old mat.

Reinstalling the Towers

  1. Connect the lanyard to the base of the TX tower.
  2. Reinstall the P-clip to the base of the TX tower. The loop of the p-clip should be hanging down, not positioned upwards.
  3. Confirm that the cable twist and tape are not damaged. Install new cable twist and tape if needed.
  4. Confirm cables are securely attached to the retention clip with a zip tie.
  5. Gently push the mat towards the base of the TX tower, guiding the cables through the hole until the magnets take over and align the mat.
  6. Reinstall the RX towers onto the mats and reconnect cables.
  7. Reconnect the any other cables (power, tablet, etc) that were removed back to the TX tower in the same configuration.
  8. Reinstall TX and RX tower base covers.

Restarting the CWD

  1. Turn the CWD back on.
  2. Flip the power switch to the ON position.
  3. Replace the Lane 1 base cover.
  4. Allow the system to start-up and complete the Self-Diagnostics tests.
  5. Connect tablets.
  6. Test the system with the OTK test kit.
  7. The system is now ready for operation.
