X-Stream Hybrid Pro Hand Pump

Gold-N-Sand has been manufacturing effective, low cost, ergonomic, and environmentally safe prospecting tools for over fifteen years.
The X-Stream Hybrid Pro is our flagship product. We also provide several related accessories and maintenance parts.
The X-Stream Hybrid Pro hand dredge is a pump system that utilizes leather cups, two one-way check valves, a hose, and a bucket. It allows you to extract fine gold bearing material from bedrock crevices, behind rocks, and in stream channels.
There are several options for the nozzle, including a standard 1-%” nozzle, a %” sniper nozzle, and a screened “bedrock nozzle” which will only accept material under about %” (4 mesh). The nozzles will not allow any rocks above approximately %” into the hose therefore virtually eliminating clogs.

USING YOUR NEW X-STREAM PRO

WHAT YOU WILL FIND IN THE BOX: The X-Stream Hybrid Pro (Retail package) includes the hand pump assembly, a six-foot hose (standard 1-%” sump pump hose can be used if you want more length), a 2-gallon bucket, and a special lid with attachments for the hose. Three nozzles are included: A standard 1-%” nozzle, a %” sniper nozzle, and a bedrock nozzle with classifier screen. You will also find an 8” nozzle extension and an extra connector to attach it. Overall length is about 36”.
TIPS and POINTERS for the X-STREAM HYBRID PRO

  • The pump uses two leather cups back-to-back, attached to the plunger handle to move material into the pump and out through the hose. When wet, these cups will seat in the barrel of the pump. When first using your pump, placing the leather cups in water for a few minutes will allow them to conform to the diameter of the pump barrel and work more effectively.
  • The check valves have white marks on the “up” side. For the system to work most effectively, these marks should be pointed upwards. The flappers in the pumps hang on hinges which work best when the hinges are at the apex of the flow.
  • Clamps are not necessary unless you plan to use the system in strong current and want to be extra cautious. For users in deeper water or stronger current, have seen people wrap a leash around the lid and tie it off at their waist in order to prevent the bucket from breaking away.
  • Try to avoid moving overburden with the pump. Cut into the heavy sand with a shovel, then use the X-Stream hand pump to remove the target material from the bottom of the area. For a smoother experience, don’t press down into heavy sand, but rather just hover the nozzle at the top layer so it can pull a sand and water slurry. Keep the bucket as low as possible so you’re not pushing material uphill to get to the bucket.
  • The plastic valves can freeze and break if freezing occurs and they are still filled with water. Store the pump in a warm and dry area while not in use.

ACCESSORIES

THE BOOMER BOX: The X-Stream Hybrid Pro can deposit material directly into a stream sluice using the Boomer Box. This device slides onto the flare of a standard 10” sluice box (or wider) and easily goes onto a smaller sluice, with a few simple modifications. The Boomer Box ships in the same box as the X-Stream Hybrid Pro or it can be purchased separately. WHAT YOU WILL FIND IN THE BOX: The box body, side stands, water attachment and assembly bolts with wing-nuts.

QU’CK-SN’PER: Occasionally, you will find yourself in a situation that requires a quick suction device, or you could be carrying a backpack and want a sharp-shooter tool for submerged sand and gravel. The Quick-Sniper is the right tool for these occasions! The Quick-Sniper includes a nozzle system perfectly suited for field use. The tip is a flexible ABS plastic virtually impossible to break under normal use. Overall length about 24”. This is also a great gift idea for a prospector friend or someone just starting out!

ERGO THE HANDLE: users who want to grip the pump with a “pistol grip” can add Ergo the Handle to the pump for ergonomic comfort. This accessory slides right onto the body of the pump (fits both the X-Stream Hybrid Pro and the Quick-Sniper) with no  tools, and it can be removed just as easily.

MAINTENANCE PARTS

LEATHER CUPS REPLACEMENT KIT: The leather cups used in the X-Stream Hybrid Pro will give years of trouble-free use if maintained. However, if you damage your leather cups, it can be easily fixed. This set includes two leather cups, two fender washers, and a locknut. All you need to do is remove the old leather cups and install the replacements. As far as tools go, you will only need a socket wrench and %” socket to replace the leather cups.

VALVE DIAPHRAGMS: Get or keep an extra set of valve diaphragms on hand in case you wear yours out! Under normal use, the pumps will work many years before any parts wear out. However, these moving parts can be subjected to a lot of gravel and rocks. You can change out the valve diaphragms using a 5/16” wrench.

VALVE UPGRADE KIT:
The X-Stream Hand Pump uses specifically designed and patented valves which can be serviced in the field using just a phillips screwdriver. Previous models used valves that could not be easily refurbished, so we offer a kit to replace your valves, which also includes a backup set of valve diaphragms. When replacing valves, remember to assemble the valves with the white marks facing the top side. The inlet valve at the end of the pump will be glued in permanently, and the outlet valve on the side will screw on and off as needed for transporting and packing your pump.

UPGRADE KIT INSTALLATION

VALVE UPGRADE KIT INSTRUCTIONS
Step 1. Place the pump on a flat surface with the bottom part of the wye fitting facing toward you. Remove the thumb screws and valves.
Step 2. Apply a coat of ABS glue (not included) to the inside of the wye. Insert the inlet valve (the shorter valve) into the wye, making sure the white marks face upward. Dries in 10 minutes or less. The exposed end will have the threads to attach nozzles when in use.
Step 3. Apply a coat of ABS glue to the inside of the WYE that faces towards you and install the threaded adapter into the opening. Should completely dry in ten minutes.
Step 4. The exit valve is ready to be screwed into the threads you have installed onto your pump. Remember, for operation, the white marks should face up.
