Description: The BIS C-830-4-011-A is a RFID LF plug-in module that operates at an operating frequency of 70/455 kHz. Product Usage Instructions

  1. Attaching and Detaching the Plug-in Module:
    • Ensure the module is powered off and disconnected from any power source.
    • Attach the plug-in module to the mobile basic device by aligning the connectors and firmly pushing it in.
    • To detach the plug-in module, gently pull it out from the mobile basic device.
  2. Safety Precautions:
    • Installation, connection, and commissioning should only be carried out by qualified personnel.
    • Ensure compliance with local safety regulations and take appropriate safety measures.
    • Do not open, modify, or change the product. In case of defects or faults, take it out of service and secure it against unauthorized use.
    • Use only original Balluff power supply units for operation. The use of unauthorized components may damage the module or the basic devices.
    • Avoid installing the module near heat sources, direct sunlight, excessive dust sources, or vibrations.
    • Do not cover the module during operation to prevent overheating.
    • Regularly check the contacts of the module and connectors for dirt and clean if necessary. Also, inspect the module and connection cables for any damage and replace damaged parts.

It applies to the following models:

  • Order code: BIS01HE
    LF plug-in module for BIS C read/write heads (70/455 kHz)

Intended use
With the LF plug-in module, Balluff RFID read/write heads BIS C-323/05-S4 and BIS C-325/05-S4 can be connected to mobile basic devices of the BIS V-830-3-011-B-00_ series in order to expand them with the RFID function.

The LF plug-in module is intended exclusively for use with the following products:

  • BIS V-830-3-011-B-00_ (basic device of the series)
  • BIS C-323/05-S4 (read/write head)
  • BIS C-325/05-S4 (read/write head)

Proper function according to the specifications in the technical data is only assured when the product is used solely as described in the user’s guide and the respective documents as well as in compliance with the technical specifications and requirements and only with suitable original Balluff accessories.
Otherwise, there is deemed to be unintended use. Unintended use is not permitted and will result in the loss of warranty and liability claims against the manufacturer.

Reasonably foreseeable misuse
The product is not intended for the following applications and areas and may not be used there:

  • In safety-oriented applications in which personal safety depends on the device function
  • In explosive atmospheres
  • In the food contact area

Safety notes

  • Activities such as installation, connection and commissioning may only be carried out by qualified personnel.
  • Qualified personnel are persons whose technical training, knowledge and experience as well as knowledge of the relevant regulations allow them to assess the work assigned to them, recognize possible hazards and take appropriate safety measures.
  • The operator is responsible for ensuring that local safety regulations are observed.
  • In particular, the operator must take steps to ensure that a defect in the product will not result in hazards to persons or equipment.
  • The product must not be opened, modified or changed. If defects and unresolvable faults occur in the product, take it out of service and secure against unauthorized use.
  • Only original Balluff power supply units may be used for the operation of the module. The use of unauthorized components may lead to the destruction of the module or the basic devices. Do not use the module  with an external device.
  • The module cannot be installed in the vicinity of heat sources (e.g. fan heaters) and exposed to direct sunlight, excessive dust sources or vibrations.

Observe ambient conditions:

  • Operating temperature: 0…50 °C
  • Storage temperature: −20…+60 °C

In order to avoid overheating, the module cannot be covered during operation.
Before use check the contacts of the module as well as the contacts of any connectors for dirt and clean if necessary. Check the module and any connection cables for damage. Damaged parts must be replaced.

Function
BIS C-830-4-011-A is a RFID LF plug-in module that operates at an operating frequency of 70/455 kHz and is used to read and write Balluff BIS C-1 data carriers in industrial environments. Mobile basic devices of the BIS V-830-3-011-B-00 series can be expanded to a mobile LF RFID system in conjunction with the LF plug-in module and a read/write head (BIS C-3 _ /05-S4).

Using the plug-in module

The module can be used on the top module slot of the basic device.

Attaching and removing the plug-in module
CAUTION
Risk of injury from crushing or squeezing

There is a risk of injury from crushing or squeezing during sliding when attaching and removing the module. The scanner glass may also become soiled.

  • Do not reach into the area of the plug-slide mechanism when attaching and removing the module.
  • Do not touch the scanner glass with fingers.

The plug-in module can be attached and removed by sliding it to the side (see picture).

Fitting and removing the M18 adapter
An adapter ring (included in the scope of delivery) is required for a stable connection of the plug-in module and read/write head (BIS C-325/05-S4) in M18 design.

Fitting the adapter

  1. Place the adapter ring on the mounting opening for read/write heads from the inside.BALLUFF-BIS-C-830-4-011-A-RFID-Handhelds-03
  2. Press the adapter ring against the mounting opening from the inside until the adapter ring engages.

Removing the adapter

  1. Push the adapter ring from the outside to the inside.
  2. Remove the adapter ring.

Fitting the read/write heads
For a stable connection of the plug-in module and read/write head, mounting with 2 hex nuts is recommended.

To avoid damage to the housing, mount the read/write heads without tools.

  1. For BIS C-325/05-S4 only: Insert adapter ring into mounting opening from the inside (see section Fitting the adapter, not shown).
  2. Position the inner hex nut from the inside at the mounting opening for the read/write head.BALLUFF-BIS-C-830-4-011-A-RFID-Handhelds-04
  3. Screw the read/write head into the hex nut from the outside.
  4. Plug the read/write head into the M12 socket. Pay attention to the A-coding of plug and socket.
  5. Screw on the inner hex nut until it touches the mounting opening, then tighten it by half a turn (≤ 2 Nm).
  6. Screw on the outer hex nut from the outside and tighten it against the inner hex nut (≤ 2 Nm).
