There is a mini USB port to charge it over USB. It comes with a mini USB cable so you can charge it using a phone charger or laptop (it does not come with charger and does not accept ac power directly). Other option is to use 3AA batteries.

Yes, as long as you don’t take it out between uses!
Will it work with a 1150mAh battery or only the higher amperage 1500mAh one?****
Well it comes with 600mAh battery if that helps.

Sorry I can’t answer your question. My radio stopped working. It burned out two USB chargers when first got it. I was using it with AA batteries.

How is the shortwave reception?****
Not good indoors. But outdoors not sure. Local radio stations no problem. Was seriously thinking about getting the bigger model kaito am/FM/SW/wx 49.00. Ever thought about getting a longer antenna. Always loved bell&Howell model. Maybe a little more but well worth it.
Is the red one solid red plastic, or just painted on?****
Mine was silver, not red. The surface was prone to scuffs and scratches revealing the lighter colored plastic that case is made from underneath.

Although I like this radio so much that I gave a few as gifts….the shortwave doesn’t work well for me and I haven’t gotten the weather station on it….perhaps my location.

No. It is a BT speaker and cannot transmit to another device.
