Tea and water kettle

Dear Customer,
Before using the appliance,
read the following instructions
carefully and keep this
manual for future reference.
The appliance must only be
used by those familiar with
the instructions below.

Important safety instructions

Danger to certain
categories of persons
There is an increased risk
of injury for children and
for people with reduced
capabilities:

  • This appliance may be
    used by children (at least
8 years of age) and by
    persons with reduced
physical, sensory or mental capabilities, or lacking
    experience and knowledge,
    provided they have been
    given supervision or
    instruction concerning the
    use of the appliance and
    fully understand all dangers
    and safety precautions
    involved.

  • Children must not be
    permitted to carry out any
    cleaning or maintenance
    work on the appliance
    unless they are supervised
and at least 8 years of age.

  • The appliance and its
    power cord must be kept
    well away from children
    under 8 at all times.

  • Children must not be
    permitted to play with the
    appliance.

  • Caution: Keep any
    packaging materials well
    away from children – these
materials are a potential source of danger, e.g. of
    suffocation.

Risk of electric shock

The device is powered by
electricity, and so there is
always a risk of electric
shock. The following
precautions are therefore to
be taken:

  • Every time the appliance
    is used, the main body
    including the power cord
    as well as any attachment
    fitted should be checked
    thoroughly for any defects.
    Should the appliance,
    for instance, have been
    dropped onto a hard
    surface, or if excessive
    force has been used to
pull the power cord, it must
    no longer be used: even
    invisible damage may have
    adverse effects on the
    operational safety of the appliance.

  • The appliance should only
    be connected to a socket
    installed in accordance
    with the regulations.
    Make sure that the supply
    voltage corresponds with
    the voltage marked on the
    rating label.

  • Because the kettle uses
high power, it must not be
    operated with any type of
    extension cable.

  • Always remove the plug
    from the wall socket
    – after use,
    – in case of any malfunction,
    – before cleaning the appliance.

  • When removing the plug
    from the wall socket, never
    pull on the power cord;
    always grip the plug itself.

  • Do not touch the plug
    with wet hands.

  • The electrical connections
    in the base must be
    protected at all times
    against possible contact
    with water.

  • Do not clean the water
    container and the base with
    liquids and do not immerse
    them; do not clean under
    running water.

  • The kettle may only
    be operated with the
    base provided with the
    appliance.

  • Never remove the water
    container from the base
    (or replace it) while the
    appliance is switched on.
    Danger of burns and
    scalding

  • The exterior surfaces
    become hot during use and
    will remain so for some
    time afterwards.

  • Do not leave the kettle unattended during
    operation. Use only pure
    water when filling the
    container to the desired
    level, observing the Min.
    (0.5 l) and Max. (1.5 l for
tea or 1.7 l for water only)
    markings. Overfilling
    the container may cause
    danger if boiling water is
    forced out.

  • For boiling water only,
    always remove the tea
    filter.

  • Do not exceed to 70 °C
    when re-heating tea.
Caution: Do not bring to a
boil, as the liquid may foam
    over.

  • Also beware of the danger
    of scalding from hot steam
    being emitted. Therefore,
do not touch any parts of
    the appliance except the
    handle during use.

  • During the boiling process and when pouring out hot
water, the lid must be kept
    closed at all times.
    Lack of hygiene
    Lack of hygiene may result
    in germs forming inside
    the appliance:

  • Clean the appliance
    thoroughly before using it
    for the first time.

  • Before cleaning the
    appliance, ensure it is
    disconnected from the
    power supply and has
    cooled down completely.

  • The appliance must
    be descaled at regular
    intervals. Clean the water
    container as necessary with
    a damp cloth.

  • Detailed information on
    cleaning the appliance can
    be found in the section
    Cleaning and care.

Danger of damage to the unit

Incorrect handling of the
appliance can cause
damage:

  • Always let the appliance
    cool down first before
    re-filling with fresh water.

  • Always place the unit on
    a dry, level, non-slip and
    heat-resistant surface,
    which is impervious to
    contact with the rubber
    feet.

  • Do not operate the
    appliance below a
    hanging cupboard or
    similar object; there
    is a risk that escaping
    steam may be trapped
    underneath.

  • Do not let the power cord
    hang free.

  • Do not kink or pinch the
    power cord. Keep both the
cord and the appliance itself well away from heat
    sources (eg hot-plates, gas
    flames).

Intended use

  • The appliance must only
    be used for heating clean,
    fresh water and for making
    hot beverages.

  • Any use other than
    that described in these
    instructions must be
    considered improper and
    may lead to personal injury
    or material damage.

  • This appliance is intended
    for domestic or similar
    applications, such as
    – in staff kitchens in shops,
    offices and other similar
    working environments,
    – in agricultural working
    environments,
    – by customers in hotels,
    motels etc. and similar
accommodation, – in bed-and breakfast type
    environments.

    unattended while
    connected.

  • Caution: Any misuse can
    cause severe personal
    injury.
    In case of a defective
    appliance
    A defective appliance can
    cause material damage and
    injury:

  • Check the appliance for
    damage before every
use. Do not operate if the
    appliance shows any sign
    of damage.

Thermal safety cut-out
The pre-set thermal safety cut-out protects
the heating element from overheating
should the appliance be erroneously
switched on without any water, or if the
heating plate is calcified. If the safety
cut-out has been activated, the appliance
cannot be switched on again. In such a
case, the appliance must be allowed to
cool down, or must be descaled, before it is
switched on again.

Temperature selection
The appropriate temperature for the
particular type of tea can be selected using
the Temperature button on the control
panel.

Water temperatures for making tea
We recommend the following
temperatures:
Green tea : 70-80 °C
White tea : 80 °C
Oolong tea : 90 °C
Black tea : 100 °C
Herbal tea : 100 °C
Note: Please also refer to the tea
manufacturer’s instructions.

  • The current water temperature in the
container (≥ 20 °C) is shown on the
    display.

  • Pressing the Temperature button
    repeatedly increases the temperature
    selection in 5-degree steps.

  • If the current temperature inside the
    container exceeds the temperature
    selected, the appliance cannot be
started; in this case, a sequence of
    three beep signals is heard.

  • Temperatures below 40 °C cannot be
    selected.

Automatic switch-off

Unless the keep-warm function has
been selected, the kettle will switch off
automatically around 15 minutes after the
last operation.
In the keep-warm mode, it switches off after
30 minutes.

pre-set temperature has been reached,
the appliance is automatically switched
off; three short beep signals are heard

and the indicator light goes out.
∙ The boiling process may be interrupted
by pressing the On/Off button . The
appliance is now in Stand-by mode.
∙ To pour hot water, remove the container
from its base.

after use.
∙ Do not leave any residual water in the
container.

Quick-Boil function
When placing the water container onto
the base and pressing the button, the
water is heated to 100 °C without the
need to set a temperature.

Making tea

∙ Remove the water container from its
base, turn the lid insert anti-clockwise
(UNLOCK) and take it off. Take out the
tea filter.
∙ Fill the container with water to the
desired level, observing the Min (0.5 l)
and Max (1.5 l for making tea) markings.
∙ Heat up the water as described in the
section Heating water.
∙ Put the required amount of tea into the
tea filter.
∙ Once three beep-signals are heard and
the indicator light goes out, release
the lid insert by turning it anti-clockwise
and remove it. Caution: Take special
care, as hot steam may be emitted! If
necessary, use oven gloves.

∙ Fit the tea filter in the container,
observing the recess in the container lid;
the tea filter handle must be aligned with
the water container handle.

depend on the type of tea used and on
personal taste.
We recommend the following times
Green tea : 2-3 minutes
White tea : 2-3 minutes
Oolong tea : 3 minutes
Black tea : 2-5 minutes
Herbal tea : 4-6 minutes

Keep-warm function
∙ The kettle comes with a keep-warm
function.

beep signals are heard and the indicator

light goes out.
∙ The water is kept warm for about 30
minutes.
∙ This function is automatically cancelled
once the water container is removed
from the base.
Power cord wind-up storage
The wind-up power cord storage under the
base allows the length of the power cord to
be limited during use and to be stored.

Descaling

∙ Depending on the water quality in your
area, lime deposits may build up on
the heating element. It is advisable to
remove any such deposits at regular
intervals.
∙ Any warranty claim will be null and
void if the appliance malfunctions
because of insufficient descaling.
∙ A mixture of 0.5 litres of water and 40 ml
of vinegar essence is suitable.
– Pour the descaler in.
– Switch the appliance on and let the
solution reach boiling point.
– Leave it to take effect for a short period.
– To clean the container after descaling,
rinse thoroughly with clean water.
∙ During descaling, ensure sufficient
ventilation and do not inhale any vinegar vapours.
∙ Do not pour descalers down enamelcoated sinks.

Cleaning and care

∙ Before cleaning the appliance, ensure it
is disconnected from the power supply
and has cooled down completely.
∙ To avoid the risk of electric shock, do not
clean the water container and the base
with liquids and do not immerse them.
Do not clean under running water.
∙ For cleaning, a slightly damp, lint-free
cloth may be used.
∙ The lid can be removed to allow the
interior to be cleaned.
∙ The tea filter may be cleaned under
running hot water, or can be left inside
the container during descaling.
∙ Do not use abrasives or harsh cleaning
solutions, and do not use hard brushes
for cleaning.
∙ Depending on the type of tea used,
certain discoloration and odour may
occur from the appliance or tea filter.
These effects may be minimized
by regular cleaning, but cannot be
completely avoided.
