SEVERIN SM 3588 Milk Frother Instruction Manual
Dear Customer,
Before using the appliance, read the following instructions carefully and keep
this manual for future reference. The appliance must only be used by persons
familiar with these instructions.
Connection to the mains supply
The appliance should only be connected to an earthed socket installed in accordance with the regulations. Make sure that the supply voltage corresponds with the voltage marked on the rating label of the appliance. This product complies with all binding CE labeling directives.

Important safety instructions

In order to avoid hazards, repairs to this electrical appliance or its power cord must be carried out by our customer service. If repairs are needed, please contact our customer service department by phone or email (see our service addresses in the separate warranty booklet or on www.severin.de).

Before cleaning the appliance, ensure it is disconnected from the power supply and has cooled down completely.

After each use, clean the milkcontainer, stirring tool and lid in warm water with a little detergent or in the dishwasher.

Detailed information on cleaning can be found in the section Cleaning and care.

Do not immerse the base in liquids, and do not clean it under running tap water.

Caution: The electrical connection in the base must be protected at all times against possible spillage of liquids.

The milk fro ther must only be used on its designated base.

Caution: Any misuse can cause severe personal injury.
-
Always use the milk container handle, as the surface may be hot during and after operation.
-
The appliance is not intended to be operated by means of an external timer or separate remote-control system.

This appliance is intended for domestic or similar applications, such as the
- staff kitchens in shops, offices and other similar working environments,
- agricultural working environments,
- by customers in hotels, motels etc. and similar accommodation,
- in bed-and breakfast type environments.

This appliance may be used by children (at least 8 years of age) and by persons with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities, or lacking experience and knowledge, provided they have been given supervision or instruction concerning the use of the appliance and fully understand all dangers and safety precautions involved.

Children must not be permitted to play with the appliance.

Children must not be permitted tocarry out any cleaning or maintenance work on the appliance unless they are supervised and at least 8 years of age.
The appliance and its power cord must be kept well away from children under 8 at all times. -
Caution: Keep any packaging materials well away from children – such materials are a potential source of danger, e.g. of suffocation.

Every time the appliance is used, the main body including the power cord as well as any attachment fitted should be checked thoroughly for any defects. Should the appliance, for instance, have been dropped ontoa hard surface, or if excessive force has been used to pull the power cord, it must no longer be used: even invisible damage may have adverse effects on the operational safety of the appliance.

Do not leave the milk frother unattended while in use.

Always observe the min and max level marks inside the milk container for each application.

The protrusion in the bottom of the container (min. level mark) must be covered by the milk. If there is not enough milk, the appliance may overheat.

Overfilling the container may cause danger if frothing milk is forced out.

Caution: The lid must always be fitted during operation.

The appliance may only be used with the original accessory parts provided by the manufacturer.

The appliance must always be set on a firm, level surface.
-
Do not allow the appliance or its power cord to comeinto contact with open flames or any hot surfaces such as hot-plates.

Do not allow the power cord to hang free; the cord must be kept well away from hot parts of the appliance.

Always remove the plug from the wall socket
- in case of any malfunction,
- after use,
- before cleaning the appliance.

When removing the plug from the wall socket, never pull on the power cord; always grip the plug itself.
-
Never touch the mains plug with wet hands.
-
No responsibility is accepted if damage results from improper use, or if these instructions are not complied with.
Intended Use
- This appliance is intended solely for heating up and frothing milk, hot chocolate and cocoa. Any other use is considered improper and can cause severe personal injury or damage to the appliance.
- Do not put any other liquids or solid food in the container.
Before using for the first time

Remove any remaining packaging materials and promotional stickers, and check that all components are present.
Do not remove the nameplate! -
Before the appliance is used for the first time, or after extended periods of non-use, it should be thoroughly cleaned as described in the section Cleaning and care.
Cable limiter
- The appliance has a cable limiter on its bottom that allows you to tuck up the unused cable length.
Operation
Lid
- The lid must always be fitted during operation.
- Only remove the lid to add chocolate.
Control knob
You can select the following modes:
hot chocolate/cocoa
extra and firm milk froth
creamy milk froth
heating milk
cold frothing
Light ring
Red
A function with heating is selected.
Blue
A function without heating is selected.
Steady light
Preparation is in progress.
Slow flashing
The unit is waiting for input, or preparation is complete.
Fast flashing
An error has occurred (see ‘Troubleshooting’ at the end of the instructions)
Fill amounts
- MIN minimum quantity 75 ml – the protrusion must be covered
- MAX Frothing maximum quantity of milk 150 ml (lower max mark)
- MAX Stirring and heating maximum quantity 300 ml (upper max mark)
Preparing the appliance
- Remove the lid from the milk container.
- Fit the stirring tool in the milk container, push it down and ensure it is seated on the lower part of the protrusion.
- Put the required amount of milk into the container.
- Place the lid on the container.
- Insert the plug into the wall socket.
- Place the milk container onto the base.

Choose the desired mode using the control knob.

Press to start the preparation.

Note:
If the appliance is not in stand-by mode, the button must be pressed twice. -
The programme starts.

To prepare cocoa and hot chocolate, fill in the desired amount of cocoa powder or chocolate (see Preparation instructions).

Once processing is complete, the heating and stirring process stops automatically.

You can now remove the milk container from the base.
-
Pour out the prepared food, or use a suitable spoon to take off the milk froth. Do not leave any residual amounts in the container.

Detach the power cord from the wall socket after use.

Always allow the appliance to cool down first, and then clean it, before starting a new cycle.
Preparation instructions
Milk froth:
- We recommend using milk with a high protein content. For best results, the milk should be taken from the refrigerator immediately before frothing.
- To achieve a thicker froth, go through a cold-frothing cycle first, followed by a hot-frothing cycle.
- When the milk froth is ready, remove the milk jug from the base immediately and pour it straight into the cup.
Hot chocolate / cocoa:

To prepare drinking chocolate from milk and chocolate or cocoa.
Grate the chocolate finely before preparation. -
Fill in the chocolate / cocoa only after the programme has started, when the milk is already being stirred. Otherwise, the stirring tool could jam.

We recommend using the following amounts of chocolate:
150 ml milk approx. 10 – 15 g
300 ml milk approx. 25 – 30 g

Automatic switch-off
- If the unit is inactive for three minutes, it switches off automatically.
Cleaning and care
- Before cleaning the appliance, ensure it is disconnected from the power supply and has cooled down completely.
- To avoid the risk of electric shock, do not clean the base or the power cord with water and do not immerse them.
- The base can be cleaned with a soft, damp cloth and some detergent.
- Thoroughly clean the milk container and lid in warm water with a little detergent immediately after each use to avoid scorching.
- If necessary, use a brush to clean the stirring tool by removing the spiral.
- Wipe all parts thoroughly dry.
- The removable parts are dishwasher-safe.
- Do not use abrasives or harsh cleaning solutions.
Disposal
Devices marked with this symbol must be disposed of separately from your household waste, as they contain valuable materials which can be recycled. Proper disposal protects the environment and human health. Your local authority or retailer can provide information on the matter.
Trouble shooting
Problem | Cause | Remedy |

Milk is not frothing, the appliance beeps 3 times and then the light ring

Unplug the power cord and let the appliance cool down for about 20 minutes.
Once plugged in, the light ring flashes quickly, and the appliance will not
