Digital Alert Systems Updating Canadian Authority Certificate Files for
DASDEC or One-Net EAS or CAP Devices
Product Information
The product mentioned in the user manual is the One-Net and DASDEC EAS/CAP devices. These devices are used to receive and process CAP (Common Alerting Protocol) alerts. They can utilize a digital certificate provided by the government or other alerting agencies to verify the authenticity of the CAP alerts. These certificates have an expiration date and need to be updated periodically. Failure to update the certificate may result in an error message indicating a digital signature verification error or the device not processing valid CAP alerts.
Product Usage Instructions
- Download the current certificate authority file from the Digital Alert Systems website. The file will have a .crt suffix, such as “Pelmorex-July_2023_update-CA.crt” or “IPAWS_Valid-until-04-14-2024.crt”.
- Navigate to the Setup > Net Alerts > CAP Decode screen on the device.
- Select the CAP configuration for Canada from the Select CAP input client pull-down menu. Note that the name may vary.
- Scroll to the bottom of the page to find the appropriate installation dialog box based on the device version.
- Click “Choose File” and select the downloaded certificate authority file, for example, “Pelmorex-July_2023_update-CA.crt”.
- Click “Open”. The screen should now display the selected file.
- Click “Upload Certificate Authority file” to install the file. The screen will indicate a successful installation.
- Scroll back up the page and locate the XML Digital Signature Certificate Authority (CA) Name.
- From the pull-down menu, choose the “Pelmorex-July_2023_update-CA.crt” selection.
- Click the “Accept Changes” button at the bottom of the screen.
Following these instructions will ensure that the device is updated with the
latest certificate authority file, allowing it to validate CAP alerts
properly.
The One-Net and DASDEC EAS/CAP devices can use a unique digital certificate
provided by the government or other alerting agencies to validate the
authenticity of CAP alerts. These certificates are designed to expire at a
specific date and time, requiring the issuing authority to issue new
certificates occasionally. Users are encouraged to check our website for newer
certificates periodically. Not updating the certificate may result in the
error message: “Event Log:Digital Signature VERIFICATION ERROR : Signer
UNTRUSTED! Check for correct CAP decoder CA file.;” or not processing valid
CAP alerts.
