  • Do not exceed the maximum number of hours of use per day as shown in the table on vibration.

  • Persons under 18 years of age may not use the chainsaw.
The user must have read the instruc-tions prior to use, be thoroughly instructed in the use of the chainsaw and be knowledgeable about the risks that may occur through use of the chainsaw.

  • For the sake of the user’s safety, the chainsaw may only be used with the combination of blade and chain indi-cated under “Technical data”, and may only be used with original spare parts for repairs and maintenance of the chainsaw.

  • Do not modify the chainsaw in any way!

  • Never use the chainsaw if the throttle, safety switch and protective shield with trigger for the chain brake do not func-tion correctly.

  • Do not obstruct or in any way prevent the function of the protective shield. Switch the chainsaw off before releas-ing the chain brake.

  • Always follow the engine maintenance instructions for the chainsaw under  “Maintenance”.

  • Always ensure there is sufficient chain oil in the tank and that the chain is filed and lubricated.

  • Never start the engine without the air filter in place or if the silencer is de-fective. Stop the engine immediately if engine problems occur.

  • Stop the engine and remove the cable from the spark plug before removing any trapped items from the blade and before cleaning or maintenance.

  • Always use protective gloves when handling the chain. Keep the chain well away from your body, hands and fingers whilst it is running.

  • Ensure the chain is not in contact with anything before starting the engine.

  • Never hold the chainsaw in your hand when starting it. If the chain hits you, you may be seriously injured.

  • Never walk around with the chainsaw while the chain is running.

  • Never put the chainsaw down before it has completely stopped running. The chain will continue to run a short time after you release the throttle.

  • Always hold the chainsaw with both hands, one on each handle, when in use.

  • Do not allow other people or animals to come within a radius of 3 metres of the chainsaw when in use.

  • Always saw with the underside of the blade where possible and avoid sawing with the tip of the blade.

  • Caution: the chainsaw may vibrate very heavily or kick back when you are cutting with the end of the blade.
Do not use the chainsaw for sawing any material other than wood.

  • Ensure that you do not accidentally cut power or telephone cables, etc. and always make sure there are no other people or animals near the chainsaw when starting or using the chainsaw.

  • Lift the blade from the item being cut while the chain is still running. If the chain stops while it is in the workpiece, it can pull the operator forward and cause injury.

  • Always fit the protective sleeve on the blade when transporting or storing the chainsaw.

  • Always secure the chainsaw during transport so that it cannot move, cause injury or damage property.

  • Check for fuel leaks during transport or storage.

  • Always clean the chainsaw before storage.

  • Remember that the noise of the chain-saw can prevent you from hearing warnings or other sounds. Be aware  of your surroundings while using the chainsaw.

Safety directions for handling fuel

  • The engine uses a 1:40 oil/petrol mix-ture. Never use pure leaded petrol, die-sel or other fuels. Mix only two-stroke oil for chain saws into the petrol.
  • Mix the fuel in a suitable container. Ensure the petrol and oil are well mixed before filling.
  • Mix and add the fuel in a well-ventilated area.
  • Never refill the fuel or chain oil while the engine is running or hot, as it may cause fire hazard.
  • Always wait until it has cooled down.
  • Smoking and the use of a naked flame while fuelling or using the chainsaw are forbidden.
  • Never refill with fuel in an enclosed space. Always refill fuel outdoors.
  • Do not overfill fuel or chain oil, as this can cause a risk of fire.
  • Clean up any spilt fuel with a dry cloth after refuelling.
  • Check that the fuel cover is tightly closed, as fuel leaks can cause a fire hazard.
  • After refilling, the chainsaw must be started at a distance of at least 3 metres from the fuel container or refilling location.
  • Fuel should be stored out of the reach of children in a clearly marked and approved container.

Safety directions for area of applica-tion

  • For outdoor use only.
  • The exhaust gases contain carbon monoxide and hydrocarbons that are highly dangerous to humans and ani-mals if inhaled.
  • Never use in high winds or heavy rain or in poor visibility.
  • Only use the chainsaw in daylight.
  • Never use the chainsaw when standing on a ladder or similar and do not climb trees whilst carrying the chainsaw, un-less you are specially trained to do so. Always ensure you are standing firmly and safely on the ground.
  • Watch your footing when using the chainsaw. Sawn branches on the ground represent a safety risk if you trip over them while sawing.
  • Plan what you are going to do before starting work. Check that you and others will not be hit by falling branches or similar.
  • The engine parts become hot when in use. Avoid touching them and do not put the chainsaw down on inflamma-ble materials (dry grass, dry leaves etc.) whilst the engine is hot.
  • Store flammable materials at a safe dis-tance from the engine, as the exhaust gases are very hot and could ignite such materials.

Risk of personal injury

  • When using the chainsaw, be particu-larly aware of the following risks:
  • Contact with an unshielded saw chain (risk of cuts or lesions)
  • Unforeseen sudden movement of the blade (risk of cuts or lesions)
  • Ejection of saw chain parts (risk of lesion and eye damage)
  • Ejection of cutting material (risk of lesion and eye damage)
  • Inhalation of fuel fumes, exhaust fumes and sawdust (risk of poisoning and lung damage)
  • Skin contact with petrol and oil (risk of allergy and cancer)
  • Contact with hot silencer (danger of burning)

ASSEMBLY AND PREPARATION

Fitting the blade and chain
Pull the protective shield (1) in the di-rection of the front handle (16) to ensure the chain brake is not activated. Remove the nuts (6) from the side plate (8) over the chain wheel. Lift the side plate off. Move the chain tensioner bolt right down towards the chain wheel by turn-ing the chain tensioner screw (7). Position the blade (3) on the chainsaw so that the chain tensioner bolt fits in the hole.

Place the chain (4) around the chain wheel and into the groove in the blade.

Check that the chain will run in the right direction.

Fit the side plate and blade by screwing the lock nuts tight by hand while lifting the end of the blade upwards.

Turn the chain tensioner screw until the chain’s drive link touches the un- derside of the blade.
Tighten the nuts securely and tension the chain fully while holding the end of the blade upwards.

Tightening the chain

  • Adjust the chain tension by turning the chain tensioner screw (7).
  • Turn the screw clockwise to tighten the chain and anticlockwise to slacken it.
  • There should be a few millimetres of play in the chain when lifted from the centre of the blade.
  • The chain must not hang below the blade.
  • Note! A new chain expands initially. It is therefore important that the chain tension is checked often during the saw’s first few hours of use. Manual-ly lubricate the chain regularly using chain oil.
  • Note! Loosen the lock nuts before ad-justing the chain tensioner, otherwise the parts may be damaged.
  • Store the key by clicking it securely into the holder (9) on the chainsaw.

Filling with fuel

  • Remove the cover (19) from the fuel tank and fill with fuel (a mix of suitable two-stroke oil and lead-free petrol at a ratio of 1:40).
  • Replace the cover and check that it is tightly sealed.

Filling the chain oil
Remove the cover (21) for the chain oil tank and fill with fresh chain oil. Replace the cover and check that it is tightly sealed.

CHAIN BRAKE

  • The chainsaw is equipped with an auto-matic chain brake that stops the chain rotation if the chainsaw kicks back.
  • The chain brake can also be activated manually by pushing the protective shield (1) forward towards the blade.
  • If the chain brake is activated while us-ing the chainsaw, you should immedi-ately release the throttle, as the coupling may otherwise be damaged.
  • Check the chain brake before each use!
  • Checking the chain brake

With the engine stopped:

  • Push the protective shield backwards towards the saw to switch the chain brake off. You will hear a click when the protective shield moves between the open and locked position.
  • Allow the blade to touch a root or branch.
  • The protective shield moves forward and activates the chain brake. The amount of power required to activate the chain brake depends on the length of the blade.
  • With the engine started:
  • Allow the engine to run at maximum speed for 1-2 seconds.
  • Push the protective shield forward with your left hand. The chain will stop im-mediately. Release the throttle.
  • If the chain does not stop immediately or does not stop completely when the chain brake is activated, the chainsaw must be inspected by a qualified repair engineer.

Important!

  • The chain brake is DEACTIVATED (the chain can move) when the BRAKE LE-VER IS PULLED BACK AND LOCKED.
  • The chain brake is ACTIVATED (the chain is blocked) when the brake lever is tilted forward. You should then not be able to move the chain.

USE

Starting a cold engine

  • Place the chainsaw on the ground. Activate the chain brake.
  • Set the on/off switch (18) to the “I” position.
  • Pull the choke (14) out.
  • Press the primer (11) 10 times until fuel is visible in it.
  • Pull the starter handle (20) until the engine is about to start, but no more than 5 times.
  • Push the choke in.
  • Pull the starter handle until the engine starts. Allow the engine to warm up for 30 seconds.
  • Deactivate the chain brake.
  • Press the throttle (17) and the safety switch (13) in to use the chainsaw.
  • Be aware that the chain moves around once you rev up the engine!
  • The chain must not move around when the engine idles. If it does, adjust the idling speed as described under Carbu-rettor adjustment in the Maintenance section.

Starting a warm engine
The warm engine start procedure is the same as for cold, except that you do not need to pull the choke out.

Stopping the engine

  • Release the throttle and allow the en-gine to idle for a couple of minutes.
  • Push the on/off button down to the “O” position.

Running in the engine
The engine should be run in for the first 20 operating hours. Avoid running at full revs or at high speed for prolonged periods in the first 20 operating hours.

Automatic chain lubrication

The chainsaw has automatic chainsaw lubrication with an adjustable lubrica- tion screw on the bottom. From the factory, the screw is set to MAX, but during normal use, we rec-ommend adjusting the screw to the “middle” position.

Note:
After use, there might be a bit of chain oil dripping from the saw. This is per-fectly normal, and it is recommended to clean the saw for oil splashes and sawdust after use. Place the chain saw on an oil-absorbing surface to avoid any oil droplets on the storage surface.
Start the chainsaw and point the blade down towards a tree stump or similar. If an oil stain appears on the tree stump, the automatic chain lubrication is func-tioning correctly. If it is not, remove the chain and blade and clean the oil feed hole. If this does not help, take the saw to an authorised repair shop.

SAWING

Check each time before use that the chainsaw is fully functional, that it is filled with fuel and chain oil, that the chain is sharpened and correctly tightened, and that the chain brake is functioning correctly.

Start the engine.

  • Hold the saw with both hands by the handles (12, 16). Raise the blade up to the working area.
  • Press the safety switch (13) and throttle (17) in simultaneously. If you release either of them, the saw will stop.
  • Begin sawing when the chain has reached the desired speed.
  • Thin branches can be sawn with one cut. To prevent shredding and breaking, cut branches in several sections.
  • When sawing thicker branches, cut the underside first to prevent it breaking off, and then the upper side. Continue until your final cut is closest to the trunk. Seal any sawn surfaces to avoid the tree bleeding if you are cutting trees that are to remain there.
  • Use a stable saw horse when sawing logs. Place the saw securely on the work piece using the bark support at the front of the saw and saw through it by tipping the rear of the saw upwards using the bark support as the centre of rotation.
  • Release the throttle immediately if the chain gets stuck. If the chain catch-es, causing the blade to kick back, the chain brake will be activated by the pro-tective shield flipping forwards. Release the brake by pulling the shield towards you again. Switch the engine off before activating the chain brake.
  • The chain can expand when hot.
  • Check regularly to see if the chain needs tightening, to avoid it coming off the blade. If the chain is tightened further whilst it is hot, it must be loosened again when cool.

CLEANING AND STORAGE

  • Allow the chainsaw to cool off after each use.
  • Clean the chainsaw with a brush or compressed air.
  • Wipe the outside of the chainsaw with a well- wrung damp cloth.
  • Always make sure the guide in the blade is free of sawdust and bark splinters to ensure the chain is correctly lubricated.
  • Use compressed air to keep the guide clear. Remove the chain to clean the guide if it cannot be cleaned satisfacto-rily with the chain on.
  • Lubricate the chain wheel at the front of the blade regularly. Remove the chain, clean the slots in the blade and drip chainsaw oil down into the chain wheel.
  • Keep the oil feed hole on the blade clean so that chain oil can be freely added.
  • Make sure to clean the cooling fins around the cylinder, as the saw may otherwise overheat during use.
  • Place the protective cover on the blade before the chainsaw is put away for storage.
  • Empty the fuel into a suitable container and store the chainsaw out of the reach of children in a dry, frost-free location.

MAINTENANCE

Checking the chain

  • A sharp chain creates large saw chips, while a blunt chain creates sawdust. Once the chain is blunt, the saw must also be pressed against the tree to engage, and there is a risk the saw will kick back significantly.
  • When the chain is no longer sharp, sharpen the teeth using a round file with a filing attachment (A), a flat file (B)  and a depth- gauge tool (C).
  • You can also use an electric chain grinder. Be very careful when sharpen-ing the teeth – use gloves!
  • Replace the chain once the teeth are worn down to the mark or if they be-come narrower than 4 mm.

Sharpening the chain

  1. Secure the chainsaw blade in a vice or saw groove in a tree stump. The chainsaw must be as firmly secured as possible.

  2. The chain teeth point alternately in the opposite direction to each other. First sharpen one set of teeth, then turn the saw and sharpen the other set of teeth. The teeth must be sharpened from the side they point out towards.
Mark the first tooth with a felt-tip pen or similar, so that you can see when you have sharpened the teeth all the way around on the chain.

  3. Place the file against a tooth, and push the file forward at an angle of 30° in relation to the blade. Grouw-18184-Chain-Chainsaw \(22\)

    • Do not pull the file back, but lift it up and file forward again.
    • File each tooth with the same number of strokes of the file.
  4. The top of the file should protrude approximately 1/5 up above the tooth.

  5. Finally, file any riders using a depth-gauge tool and a flat file. The riders must all have the same height and be approximately 0.65 mm lower than the teeth.

Replacing the chain

  1. When the chain is worn, replace it.

  2. Remove the chain and blade as de-scribed under “Assembly and Prepara-tion”.

  3. Take the chain off the blade, and clean the blade, protective cover and engine housing thoroughly with compressed air or a brush. Take special care to clean the oil feed to the blade and the chain.

  4. Check for blade and chain wheel wear and replace if necessary.
Note! Do not dispose of used chains in your domestic refuse. Dispose of them correctly in accordance with local legislation.

  5. Fit the new chain onto the blade.

Checking the blade
Place a try square against the blade and press it against the chain. If there is an opening between the try square and the blade, the blade is OK. If the try square is very close to the blade, the groove in the blade is worn and the blade must be replaced.

Note! You can get the blade to last longer by turning it on the chainsaw occasionally.

Cleaning the air filter

  • Clean the air filter regularly.
  • Release the clips (15) by tilting them out using the key provided.
  • Lift cover plate.
  • Lift the filter element out. Grouw-18184-Chain-Chainsaw \(28\)
  • Clean the filter element using com-pressed air.
  • If there is a lot of dirt, you can wash it in warm water with a little detergent. Al-low it to dry fully and pour a little clean oil onto it before replacing it. Wipe the inside of the filter cover with a damp cloth. If the filter element is worn or defective, it should be replaced.

Cleaning the fuel filter

  • Use a piece of steel wire, etc. to remove the filter from the fuel tank.
  • Rinse the filter thoroughly with petrol or replace. Do not allow dust or dirt to get into the tank when cleaning.

Cleaning the spark plug

  • The spark plug is located behind the air filter. Remove the spark plug using the spark plug spanner supplied. Remove any deposits using a wire brush.
  • Use a feeler gauge to check that the spark gap is 0.6-0.7 mm and adjust if necessary.
  • If the spark plug is very sooty, clean or replace it. Always replace with the same type.

Idling adjustment

  • If the chainsaw is not running smooth-ly, the idling speed can be adjusted.
  • Clean the air and fuel filters first and check that the fuel and chain oil are mixed correctly (1:40).

Start the engine.

  • Adjust the idling speed by turning the T screw. The chain must not move around the blade when the engine idles.
  • All other settings of the carburettor may only be changed by a professional.

Checking the chain wheel
Remove the side plate and check the chain wheel. If the chain wheel’s teeth are more worn down than 5 mm, re-place the chain wheel with a new one of the same specifications as the old one.
