Important Safety Instructions

This product has been engineered and manufactured with the highest priority on safety. However, improper use can result in electric shock and/or ire. In order to prevent potential danger, please observe the following instructions when installing, operating and cleaning the product. To ensure your safety and prolong the service life of  this product, please read the following precautions carefully before use.

  5. Do not use this apparatus near water.

  6. Clean only with dry cloth.

  7. Do not block any ventilation openings. Install in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions.

  8. Do not install near any heat sources such as radiators, heat registers, stoves, or other apparatus (including amplifiers) that produce heat.

  9. Do not defeat the safety purpose of the polarized or grounding-type plug. A polarized plug has two blades with one wider than the other. A grounding type plug has two blades and a third grounding prong. The wide blade or the third  prong are provided for your safety. If the provided plug does not it into your outlet, consult an electrician for replacement of the obsolete outlet.

  10. Protect the power cord from being walked on or pinched particularly at plugs,  convenience receptacles, and the point where they exit from the apparatus.

  11. Only use attachments/accessories specified by the manufacturer.

  12. Use only with the cart, stand, tripod, bracket, or table specified by the manufacturer, or sold with the apparatus. When a cart is used, use caution when moving the  cart/apparatus combination to avoid injury from tip-over.

Servicing is required when  the apparatus has been damaged in any way, such as power-supply cord or plug is damaged, liquid has been spilled or objects have fallen into the apparatus, the apparatus has been exposed to rain or moisture, does not operate  normally, or has been dropped.
    Additional Safety Information

  15. Power Sources – This product should be operated only from the type of power source indicated on the marking label. If you are not sure of the type of power supply to your home, consult your product dealer or local power company.  For product intended to operate from battery power, or other sources, refer to the operating instructions.

  16. Overloading – Do not overload wall outlets, extension cords, or integral convenience receptacles as this can result in a risk of ire or electric shock.

  17. Object and Liquid Entry – Never push objects of any kind into this product through openings as they may touch dangerous voltage points or short-out parts that could result in a ire or electric shock.
    To prevent ire or shock hazard, do not expose this appliance to dripping or splashing. No objects idled with liquids, such as vases, shall be placed on the apparatus.

  18. Damage Requiring Service – Unplug this product from the wall outlet and refer servicing to qualified service personnel under the following conditions: a. When the AC cord or plug is damaged, b. If liquid has been spilled, or objects have fallen into the product, c. If the product has been exposed to rain or water, d. If the product does not operate normally by following the operating instructions. Adjust only those controls that are covered by the operating instructions as an improper adjustment of other controls may result in damage and will often require extensive work by a qualified technician to restore the product to its normal operation, e. If the product has been dropped or damaged in any way, and f. When the product exhibits a distinct change in performance – this indicates a need for service.

  19. Replacement Parts – When replacement parts are required, be sure the service technician has used replacement parts specified by the manufacturer or have the same characteristics as the original part. Unauthorized substitutions may result in ire, electric shock, or other hazards.

  20. Safety Check – Upon completion of any service or repairs to this product, ask the service technician to perform safety checks to determine that the product is in proper operating condition.

  21. Wall or ceiling mounting – When mounting the product on a wall or ceiling, be sure to install the product according to the method recommended by the manufacturer.

  22. Power Lines – An outside antenna system should not be located in the vicinity of overhead power lines or other electric light or power circuits, or where it can fall into such power lines or circuits. When installing an outside antenna system, extreme care should be taken to keep from touching such power lines or circuits as contact with them might be fatal.

  23. Protective Attachment Plug – The product is equipped with an attachment plug having overload protection. This is a safety feature. See Instruction Manual for replacement or resetting of protective device. If replacement of the plug is required, be sure the service technician has used a replacement plug specified by the manufacturer that has the same overload protection as the original plug.

  24. Stand – Do not place the product on an unstable cart, stand, tripod or table. Placing the product on an unstable base can cause the product to fall, resulting in serious personal injuries as well as damage to the product. Use only a cart, stand, tripod, bracket or table recommended by the manufacturer or sold with the product. When mounting the product on a wall, be sure to follow the manufacturer’s instructions. Use only the mounting hardware recommended by the manufacturer.

Precautions

■ General

  • Keep your equipment at least 4” (10 cm) of free space along the sides, top and back for proper ventilation.
  • Use the unit on a irm, level surface free from vibration.
  • Place the unit at least 12” (30 cm) away from any CRT TV to avoid color variations across the TV screen. If the variations persist, move the unit further away from the TV. LCD TV is not prone to such variation.
  • Keep the unit away from direct sunlight, strong magnetic idles, excessive dust, humidity and electronic/electrical equipment (home computers, facsimiles, etc.) which generate electrical noise.
  • Do not expose the unit to moisture, to temperatures higher than 95˚F (35˚C) or to extremely low temperatures.
  • If the unit does not work properly, unplug and plug it in again. Then turn on the unit.
  • In case of an electrical storm, unplug the unit for safety.
  • Hold the AC power plug by the head when removing it from the AC outlet, as pulling the cord can damage internal wires.
  • Do not place anything on top of the unit.
  • The AC power plug is used as a disconnect device and shall always remain readily operable.
  • Do not remove the outer cover, as this may result in electric shock. Refer internal service to your local SHARP service facility.
  • This unit should only be used within the range of 41˚F – 95˚F (5˚C – 35˚C).
  • **** This equipment is a Class II or double insulated electrical appliance. It has been designed in such a way that it does not require a safety connection to electrical earth.

Warning:

The voltage used must be the same as that specified on this unit. Using this product with a higher voltage other than that which is specified is dangerous and may result in a ire or other type of accident causing damage. SHARP will not be  held responsible for any damage resulting from use of this unit with a voltage other than that which is specified.

■ Volume Control
The sound level at a given volume setting depends on speaker efficiency, location and various other factors. It is advisable to avoid exposure to high volume levels, which occurs while turning the unit on with the volume control setting up high, or while continually listening at high volumes.

■ Before Use

  • Choose unit installation location carefully. Avoid placing it in direct sunlight or close to a source of heat. Also avoid locations subject to vibrations and excessive dust, cold or moisture. Keep away from sources that hum, such as  transformers or motors.
  • Do not open the cabinet as this might result in damage to the circuitry or electrical shock, if a foreign object should get into the set, contact your dealer.
  • When removing the power plug from the wall outlet, always pull directly on the plug, never pull the cord.
  • Do not attempt to clean the unit with chemical solvents as this might damage the unit. Use a clean, dry cloth.
  • In order to shut off the power to this product completely, unplug the power cord from the wall outlet. Be sure to unplug the unit if you do not intend to use it for an extended period of time, such as a vacation.
  • Keep this manual in a safe place for future reference.

Warranty (USA)

CONSUMER LIMITED WARRANTY (Valid in the U.S. Only)
MIZARI ENTERPRISES, INC. warrants to the first consumer purchaser that this Sharp brand product (the “Product”), when shipped in its original container, will be free from defective workmanship and materials, and agrees that it will,  at its option, either repair the defect or replace the defective Product or part thereof with a new or remanufactured equivalent at no charge to the purchaser for parts or labor for the period(s) set forth below.
This warranty does not apply to any appearance items of the Product nor to the additional excluded item(s) set forth below nor to any Product the exterior of which has been damaged or defaced, which has been subjected to improper voltage or other misuse, abnormal service or handling, or which has been altered or modified in design or construction. In order to enforce the rights under this limited warranty, the purchaser should follow the steps set forth below and
provide proof of purchase to the servicer.
The limited warranty described herein is in addition to whatever implied warranties may be granted to purchasers by law.
ALL IMPLIED WARRANTIES INCLUDING THE WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY AND FITNESS FOR USE ARE LIMITED TO THE PERIOD(S) FROM THE DATE OF PURCHASE SET FORTH BELOW. Some states do not  allow limitations on how long an implied warranty lasts, so the above limitation may not apply to you.

In no event shall MIZAR be liable, or in any way responsible, for any damages or defects in the Product which were caused by repairs or attempted repairs performed by anyone other than an authorized servicer. Nor shall MIZARI be liable or in any way responsible for any incidental or consequential economic or property damage. CONSUMER LIMITED WARRANTY (Valid in Canada Only)
MIZARI ENTERPRISES, INC. warrants to the first purchaser for this Sharp brand product (“Product”), when shipped in its original container and sold or distributed in Canada by MIZARI or by an authorized MIZARI dealer, and Product was not sold “as is” or “sales final” that the Product will during the applicable warranty period, be free from defects in material and workmanship, and will within the applicable warranty period, either repair the defective
Product or provide the first purchaser a replacement of the defective Product.
Conditions: This limited warranty shall not apply to:
(a) Any cosmetic damage to the Product surface or exterior that has been defaced or caused by normal wear and tear.
(b) Any defects caused or repairs required as a result of damage caused by any external or environmental conditions, including but not limited to, transmission line/power line voltage or liquid spillage or acts of God.
(c) Warranty claims for Products returned with illegible or without appropriate model, serial number and CSA/cUL markings.
(d) Any Products used for rental or commercial purposes.
(e) Any installation, delivery, setup and/or programming charges.
(f) Any defects caused or repairs required as a result of abusive operation, negligence, accident, improper installation or inappropriate use as outlined in
the owner’s manual or other applicable Product documentation.
(g) Any defects caused or repairs required as a result of any Product that has been tampered with, modified, adjusted or repaired by any person other than MIZARI, a Sharp authorized service center or a MIZARI authorized servicing dealer.
(h) Any defects caused or repairs required as a result of the use of the Product with items not specified or approved by MIZARI, including but not limited
to, head cleaning tapes and chemical cleaning agents.
(i) Any replacement of accessories, glassware, consumable or peripheral items required through normal use of the Product, including but not limited to, earphones, remote controls, AC adapters, batteries, temperature probe, trays, filters,  belts, ribbons, cables and paper.
How to get service: Warranty service information may be obtained calling 905-568-7140. No other person (including any MIZARI dealer or service center) is authorized to extend, enlarge or transfer this warranty on behalf of  MIZARI.The purchaser will be responsible for any and all removal, reinstallation, transportation and insurance costs incurred.
The express warranties in this limited warranty are, except for consumer purchasers domiciled in Quebec, in lieu of and, except to the extent prohibited by applicable law, MIZARI disclaims all other warranties and conditions, express or  implied, whether arising by law, statute, by course of dealing or usage of non-infringement.
Limitations: (not applicable to consumer purchasers domiciled in Quebec to the extent prohibited under Quebec law): (a) MIZARI shall not be liable for any incidental, special, consequential, economic, exemplary or indirect damages of  any kind or nature (including lost profits or damages for loss of time or loss of use or loss of data) arising from or in any connection with the use or performance of a Product or a failure of a Product, even if MIZARI is aware of or has been  advised of the possibility of such damages; (b) the remedies described in this limited warranty constitute complete fulfilment of all obligations and responsibilities of MIZARI to the purchaser with respect to the Product and shall  constitute full satisfaction of all claims, whether based on contract, negligence, strict liability or otherwise. Some provinces may not allow the exclusion or limitation of certain damages, or limits on the duration or voiding of implied  warranties or conditions; in such provinces, the exclusions and limits herein may not apply. System connections

■ AC connection
Please ensure that the voltage marked on the rating label, located on the rear panel, is the same as the voltage in your area. Insert the end of the power lead into the AC IN socket on the back of the unit. Plug the other end of the cable into the wall socket.

General control

■ To turn the power on or off

  • Press the /FUNCTION to power ON.
  • Press and hold the /FUNCTION 3 seconds to power OFF.

Notes
In USB/Bluetooth® /LINE IN mode, when no operation is performed for 15 minutes, the unit will automatically enter standby mode. To resume operation, press the /FUNCTION.

■ Setting the function mode
To change the function, press the /FUNCTION button to select the USB /Bluetooth® /LINE IN function.
■ Volume control
Rotate the VOLUME knob to increase or decrease the volume.
Current volume level will be shown on the display.
■ Lighting mode

Press the LIGHT button repeatedly to select the different lighting mode of LED indicator light on the speaker. The display shows LEd1 to LEd7 and LEd0 (Light OFF).

  • “LEd1” Slow moving and slow color change
  • “LEd2” Fast moving sync with the music and slow color change
  • “LEd3” Rainbow color sync with the music
  • “LEd4” Circle light breathe and color change sync with the music
  • “LEd5” RGB color blinking Circle light sync with the music
  • “LEd6” One color blink with music and color change
  • “LEd7” White color blink
  • ”LEd0” Light OFF

■ Bass and treble level control

  • Rotate the TREBLE knob to adjust the treble.
  • Rotate the BASS knob to adjust the bass.

■ SUPER BASS function
Press SUPER BASS button to switch the bass mode on/off. The “B-ON” will be shown on the display when the bass is switched on and “B-OF” will be shown when off.
■ Microphone echo
Rotate the ECHO VOL knob to adjust the echo.
■ Mic priority

  • Press MIC Priority button to switch the MIC Priority mode on and off.
  • The “P-ON” will be shown on the display when the MIC Priority is switched on and “P-OF” will be shown when off.
  • If you speak with a microphone when MIC Priority is on, the sound of the music being played will be reduced.

■ Voice cancel

  • Press the VOICE CANCEL button to switch the VOICE CANCEL mode on and off.
  • The “ACON” will be shown on the display when the VOICE CANCEL mode is switched on and “ACOF” will be shown when off.
  • When VOICE CANCEL mode is on, the center vocal voice of the song is canceled or reduced and becomes smaller.

■ Voice changer

  • Press the VOICE CHANGER button to change 4 types of voice effect.
  • The display shows EFE1 to EFE4 and EFE0 (VOICE CHANGER OFF).

■ Mute function

Press the MUTE button to mute the sound. The “U00” will be shown on the display when switched on. Press again to restore the sound.

USB operation

■ Listening to a USB device
This unit provides a USB port for music playback.

  1. Connect a USB memory stick or press the function button. Connect the USB Memory Stick to the USB playback port. If you already have a memory stick connected to the port, press the function button repeatedly to select the USB  function.
  2. The display will show the total number of folders for 2 seconds and, then, show the total number of playable tracks for 2 seconds and automatically start to play the 1st track of the USB device. The elapsed time will be shown on the  display.
  3. To pause playback press the button. “PAUS” will be shown on the display.
  4. To resume play, press the button. The elapsed time will be shown on the display.
  5. To select a desired track, press the  or button either while playing or pausing until the desired track appears on the display. The unit will start playing automatically.
  6. Press and hold the  or button to fast forward and backward until  the desired point is reached, then release the button for normal playback. Playback will start from this point.

Caution
To prevent harmful interference, always connect USB devices directly to the unit. Do not use a USB extension cable to connect USB devices to the unit.
To select the USB play mode, press and hold the PLAY MODE button. The mode will be changed as following order.

  • FOLDER mode, the display shows “Fold”.
  • +/-10 Track jump mode, the display shows “ud:10”.
  •  One Track Repeat mode, the display shows “ONE”.
  • Folder Repeat mode, the display shows “FO-r”.
  • All track Repeat mode, the display shows “ALL”.
  • Random Play mode, the display shows “rAnd”.
  • Normal play mode, the display shows “ordE”.

■ To select Play mode

  1. Press and hold the PLAY MODE button several times until the display shows “Fold” to select FOLDER mode.
  2. Press the / buttons to select the folder.
    The display will show the folder number and the unit will automatically start playing the irst track in the selected folder. After a few seconds, the display will switch to elapsed time, the folder mode will be canceled and the unit will be in normal mode.

■ To jump to +/- 10 Track

  1. Press and hold the PLAY MODE button several times until the display shows “ud:10” to select +/-10 Track jump mode.
  2. Press the / buttons to jump to +/-10 track. The display will show the track number and the unit will automatically start playing the selected track. After a few seconds, the display will switch to elapsed time, the +/-10 Track jump  mode will be canceled and the unit will be in normal mode.

■ To Repeat a Single Track

  1. Press and hold the PLAY MODE button several times during play until the display shows “ONE” to select the single track repeat mode. The display will show “ONE”, then, the elapsed time. The current track will be played repeatedly.
  2. To cancel repeat play, press and hold the PLAY MODE button several times during play until the display shows “ordE” to select the normal play mode.

■ To Repeat the Folder

  1. Press and hold the PLAY MODE button several times during play until the display shows “FOr” to select the folder repeat mode. The display will show “FO-r”, then, the elapsed time of the current track. The current folder will be  repeated continuously.
  2. To cancel repeat play, press and hold the PLAY MODE button several times during play until the display shows “ordE” to select the normal play mode.

■ To Repeat all the track

  1. Press and hold the PLAY MODE button several times during play until the display shows “ALL” to select the all track repeat mode. The display will show “ALL”, then, the elapsed time of the current track. All tracks on the USB device  will be played repeatedly.
  2. To cancel repeat play, press and hold the PLAY MODE button several times during play until the display shows “ordE” to select the normal play mode.

■ Random play

  1. Press and hold the PLAY MODE button several times during play until the display shows “rAnd” to select the random play mode. The display will show “rAnd”, then, the elapsed time of the current track. The random play will start  from the next track automatically.
  2. To cancel random play, press and hold the PLAY MODE button several times during play until the display shows “ordE” to select the normal play mode.

■ Normal play mode
Press and hold the PLAY MODE button several times during play until the display shows “ordE” to select the normal play mode.
The display will show “ordE”, then, the elapsed time of the current track.
The unit will be in normal play mode.

■ Charging the device from USB port
You can charge a device connected to the USB CHARGE port on the unit.

  1. Connect the device to the USB CHARGE port on the top of the unit.
  2. Charging of the connected device will start.

Notes
Even if you insert a USB memory stick into the USB CHARGE port, the unit will not playback music.

Bluetooth® operation

  1. Press the FUNCTION button to select the Bluetooth® mode. The display will show “bLUE” and start blinking.
  2. Turn on the Bluetooth function on the source device, scan the unit “PS-990 SHARP” and connect. “bLUE” on display lights up.
  3. Press the play button on your device or the button to start to play.
  4. Rotate the VOLUME knob or adjust the volume on your device to increase or decrease the volume as desired.

Notes

  • Press and hold PLAY MODE button to disconnect the Bluetooth®.
  • You can playback and pause playback by pressing PLAY MODE button.
  • You can select a desired track by pressing the or button.
  • The Bluetooth® works best within 10 meters.

■ AUX IN (Auxiliary input) operation

  1. Press the FUNCTION button to select LINE IN mode. The display shows “LINE” on the display.
  2. Connect your audio device to the LINE IN input jack of the unit with an audio cable.
  3. Control playback with your device.
  4. Rotate the VOLUME knob or adjust the volume on your device to increase or decrease the volume as desired.

■ Microphone operation
Microphone input is available in all functions.

  1. Connect your microphone to the 6.3 mm MIC 1 or MIC 2 jack of the unit.
  2. Rotate the MIC VOL. knob to increase or decrease the volume.

Troubleshooting chart

■ General

Symptom Possible cause
●  No sound is heard. ●  The input signal (selection) is not set properly.
  ●  The volume level is set to “00”.
  ●  Muting is activated at external device.
●  Noise is heard during playback. ●  Move the speaker away from any

computers or mobile phones.
●  The power is not turned on.| ●  The unit has not enough battery power.
 | ●  The protection circuit may be activated. Switch off and on the unit again.
 | ●  Battery is completely depleted. Recharge the battery.

Bluetooth

Symptom Possible cause
●  No sound is heard. ●  The unit is too far from the Bluetooth audio source

device.
 | ●  The unit is not paired with the Bluetooth audio source device
●  Bluetooth sound is interrupted or distorted.| ●  The unit is too near to a device that generates electromagnetic radiation.
●  There is an obstacle between the unit and the Bluetooth audio source device.

■ USB

Symptom Possible cause

●  Device cannot be detected.
●  Playback does not start.| ●  There is no MP3 file inside the device.
●  The device is not properly connected.
●  It is an MTP device.
●  The device contains AAC file only.
●  A false MP3 file is being played back.
●  Wrong time display.| ●  A Variable Bitrate files are being played back.

■ Condensation
Sudden temperature changes, storage or operation in an extremely humid environment may cause condensation inside the cabinet. Condensation can cause the unit to malfunction. If this happens, leave the product under room temperature for about 1 hour. Wipe off any condensation on the product with a soft cloth before operating the unit.

■ If problem occurs during operation
When this product is subject to strong external interference (mechanical shock, excessive static electricity, abnormal supply voltage due to lightning, etc.) or if it is operated incorrectly, it may malfunction. If such a problem occurs, do the  following:

  1. Switch off and on the unit again.
  2. If the unit is not restored in the previous operation, do the reset operation.

■ Reset to factory default
Press and hold the LIGHT button for more than 10 seconds until display shows ‘Uxxx’. The unit will return to Bluetooth function (default) when the reset is completed.

Maintenance

■ Cleaning the cabinet
Periodically wipe the cabinet with a soft cloth.
Caution:

  • Do not use chemicals for cleaning (petrol, paint thinner, etc.). It may damage the cabinet inish.
  • Do not apply oil to the inside of each component. It may cause malfunctions.
