Inspection, points to verify

Your safety depends upon the integrity of your equipment.
Petzl recommends a detailed inspection by a competent person at least once every 12 months (depending on current regulations in your country, and your conditions of usage).
WARNING: your intensity of use may cause you to inspect your PPE more frequently. Follow the procedures described at Petzl.com. Record the results on your PPE inspection form: type, model, manufacturer contact info, serial number or individual number, dates: manufacture, purchase, first use, next periodic inspection; problems, comments, inspector’s name and signature.
Before each use
Check the condition of the waistbelt and leg loop straps, especially at the attachment points, the adjustment buckles and the safety stitching.
Look for cuts, wear and damage due to use, to heat, to chemicals… Be particularly careful to check for cut or loose threads.
Verify that the DOUBLEBACK, DOUBLEBACK PLUS and FAST LT PLUS buckles function properly. Check the gated attachment points: body, spacer. Make sure the screw is securely tightened (correct installation, lack of play…).
Check the condition of the attachment bridge: make sure the rope has no cuts, burns, frayed strands, fuzzy areas, or signs of chemicals…
Check the condition of the ventral attachment point: make sure the strap has no cuts, burns, frayed strands, fuzzy areas, or signs of chemicals…
During use
It is important to regularly monitor the condition of the product and its connections to the other equipment in the system. Make sure that all items of equipment are correctly positioned with respect to each other. Regularly check the adjustment buckles.
Regularly check that the buckles are locked. Avoid any pressure or rubbing that could damage or unlock the buckle.

Compatibility

Verify that this product is compatible with the other elements of the system in your application (compatible = good functional interaction).
Equipment used with your harness must meet current standards in your country (e.g. EN 362 carabiners).

Harness setup

– Be sure to correctly stow the excess strap (folded flat) in the keepers, or wrap it on the provided winders.
– Beware of foreign objects that could impede the operation of the FAST LT PLUS buckles (e.g.pebbles, sand, clothing…). Verify that they are securely fastened.
5a. 5b. Adjustment and suspension test
Your harness must be adjusted to fit snugly to reduce the risk of injury in the event of a fall.
In a safe environment, you must move around and hang in the harness from each attachmentpoint, with your equipment, to verify that the harness fits properly, provides adequate comfort for the intended use and that it is optimally adjusted.
5c. Adjusting the sitting position
Use the DOUBLEBACK buckles for bridge height adjustment, then lock them with the buckle locks.
5d. Attachment bridges
Carry out the mounting in a suitable location to avoid losing the spacer or screw. Make sure the O-ring is present on the screw. This O-ring helps prevent the screw from loosening in the event it is not properly tightened. If the O-ring is missing, contact Petzl after-sales service.
To ensure proper performance of your device, the screw must be correctly installed and tightened to the indicated torque. Using a torque wrench is the only way to verify that the tightening torque is correct.
Verify there is no play in the spacer. A gated attachment point is secure only if the screw is completely tightened.

EN 358: 2018 belt for work positioning and restraint

These attachment points are designed to either hold the user in position at the workstation, or to prevent the worker from entering a zone where a fall is possible.
Do not use a work positioning belt if there is a foreseeable risk of the user becoming suspended or exposed to uncontrolled tension on the belt. For work positioning, use an anchor point situated at or above waist level.
These attachment points are not designed for fall-arrest usage. It may be necessary to supplement work positioning or restraint systems with collective or personal fall-arrest systems. The waistbelt is approved for one user, including his/her tools and equipment, for a maximum total weight of 150 kg.
6a. Gated attachment points
The two gated attachment points must always be used together.
6b. Waistbelt side attachment points
The two side attachment points must always be used together.

EN 813: 2008 sit harness

Designed for progression on rope and work positioning.
Use the attachment bridge to attach a descender, positioning lanyards or progression lanyards.
Use the ventral attachment point to attach a rope clamp or shoulder straps.
This attachment point is not suitable for fall arrest.

Equipment loops

Equipment loops must only be used for equipment.
WARNING – DANGER: never use equipment loops for belaying, rappelling, tying in, or anchoring a person.
