Installation

IMPORTANT: UPON CHANGING THE TXV, the Liquid Line FILTER DRIER (not provided in kit) must be replaced.

  1. Recover the refrigerant or pump down into the outdoor unit.

  2. Remove coil access panels from cabinet.

  3. Remove the TXV support clamp.

  4. With a backup wrench in place, Loosen TXV hex nut and separate the TXV from the distributor.

  5. Ensure the Teflon washer has been removed from the distributor connection (Fig. 1).

  6. Remove the bulb from the suction header by cutting the clamp.

  7. Remove or cut the 1/8″ OD copper equalizer line from the suction header.

  8. Cut the connection between the liquid line and TXV with a tubing cutter. Leave enough length on stub to connect new TXV.
NOTE: If the TXV has a mechanical fitting, then—with a backup wrench in place—loosen the TXV hex nut and separate the TXV from the liquid line (Fig. 2).

  9. Once the existing TXV has been removed, attach the TXV Warranty tag (with the supplied plastic wire tie) from the kit to the failed TXV. Fill out the warranty tag and place the tag and TXV in the replacement box for return

  10. Prior to brazing, wrap the TXV with an appropriate heat-sink material such as a wet cloth. Be sure the heat-sink material is behind the braze joint.

  11. Attach the TXV inlet tubing to liquid line and braze connection. After brazing, allow joint to cool before continuing.

  12. The distributor used on the all-aluminum coils is also made of aluminum. The TXV connection to the distributor is accomplished with a ¾” Chatleff nut. The threads are coated with Loctite Heavy Duty Anti-Seize which is a graphite/calcium fluoride formulation, for applications that is free from copper, lead and sulfur. This product is typically used in applications with an operating range of -20°F to +2400°F. When replacing a TXV it is recommended to reapply with the same thread sealer.

  13. Once cooled, attach the TXV outlet hex nut to the distributor. Make sure the Teflon washer (included in kit) is seated properly within the distributor. Use a backup wrench to prevent damage to the tubing.

  14. Attach the TXV support clamp.

  15. Position the replacement TXV bulb at the same location as the original bulb. Insulate the bulb with field supplied insulation wrap.

  16. Flare Style Equalizer Tube: It is suggested that extra care be taken during brazing of copper equalizer on the aluminum coils to prevent the braze material from splattering on the aluminum. Also, route the copper equalizer so that it doesn’t touch the aluminum components. Mechanical Fitting Equalizer Tube: The suction used on the all-aluminum coils is also made of aluminum.

  17. Check the system for leaks and recharge the system.
