Important safety instructions
-
The appliance should only be connected to an earthed socket installed in accordance with the regulations.
-
The appliance is also designed for outdoor use, and must therefore be operated with an additional earth leakage circuit-breaker with a rated tripping current not exceeding 30mA.
-
Make sure that the supply voltage corresponds with the voltage marked on the rating label.
-
The power cord should be regularly examined for any signs of damage.
In the event of such damage being found, the appliance must no longer be used. -
In order to avoid hazards, and to comply with safety requirements, repairs to this electrical appliance or its power cord must be carried out by our customer service. If repairs are needed, please contact our customer service department by phone or email (see appendix).
-
Caution: This symbol indicates that the grill rack and heating element may become very hot during operation – there is a danger of burns.
-
Before cleaning the grill, ensure it is disconnected from the power supply and has completely cooled down.
-
To avoid the risk of electric shock, the heating element with sensor and power cord and the core thermometer must not be immersed in liquid or even allowed to come into contact with it.
-
Clean the grill rack, reflector tray and the tray inserts with hot soapy water, or in a dish-washer. For detailed information on cleaning the appliance, please refer to the section Cleaning and care.
-
The appliance is not intended to be operated by means of an external timer or separate remote-control system.
-
Warning! Do not, under any circumstances, use charcoal or any other solid or liquid fuel to operate the grill.
-
Caution: Do not cover the grill rack with aluminium foil, barbecue dishes or other items, as the resulting buildup of heat could seriously damage the grill.
-
A maximum of 2 litres of water may be poured into the reflector tray.
-
This appliance is intended for domestic or similar applications, such as
– in staff kitchens in shops, offices and other similar working environments,
– in agricultural working environments,
– by customers in hotels, motels etc. and similar establishments,
– in bed-and breakfast type environments. -
This appliance may be used by children (at least 8 years of age) and by persons with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities, or lacking experience and knowledge, provided they have been given supervision or instruction concerning the use of the appliance and fully understand all dangers and safety precautions involved.
-
Children must not be permitted to play with the appliance.
-
Children must not be permitted to carry out any cleaning or maintenance work on the appliance unless they are supervised and at least 8 years of age.
-
The appliance and its power cord must be kept well away from children under 8 at all times.
-
Caution: Keep any packaging materials well away from children – these are a potential source of danger, e.g. of suffocation.
-
Before the appliance is used, the main body as well as any attachment fitted should be checked thoroughly for any defects. Should the appliance, for instance, have been dropped onto a hard surface, it must no longer be used: even invisible damage may have adverse effects on the operational safety of the appliance.
-
During operation, the grill must be placed on a level, heat-resistant surface, impervious to splashes and stains. When grilling food with a high fat or moisture content, splashes are not always avoidable.
-
Do not position the grill next to a wall or corner, and ensure that no inflammable materials are stored near it.
-
Remember that food with a high fat or moisture content may tend to ignite; therefore always fill the reflector tray with water before use. Do not connect the grill to mains power until the trey has been filled with water. The water helps to cool down the reflector tray, reduces the build-up of smoke, and also facilitates cleaning.
-
Keep monitoring the water level. Water should be added in good time, while ensuring that it does not come into contact with the heating element. Caution: Disconnect the grill from the mains before adding water.
-
Before the grill is used, always check that the heating element is correctly fitted in the housing and reflector tray.
-
The grill must be supervised at all times during operation.
-
Do not allow the power cord to touch any hot parts of the appliance.
-
Route the power cord in such a way that no one can trip over it.
-
Always remove the plug from the wall socket
– before filling with water,
– after use,
– in case of any malfunction, and
– during cleaning. -
The use of an extension cord or reel causes a loss of power, possibly combined with a subsequent heat buildup in the cable. It is therefore necessary to unwind the cable completely before use. Make sure that the cord is approved for outdoor use and for the power specified (see rating label).
-
Do not move the grill cart by pushing at the side table. Take off the side table first and always grip the frame.
-
Do not use the grill cart to transport any items.
-
Never move the barbecue while it is in operation.
-
Remove water after use.
-
Caution! Always make sure that the barbecue has cooled down completely before it is moved, cleaned, covered or stored.
-
Caution! Whenever the barbecue is not in use, the heating element with the connection box must be removed from the barbecue and stored in a dry space indoors.
-
The other parts of the barbecue must not be stored outdoors or in an open area where they could be affected by the weather.
-
The grill may only be used with the supplied core thermometer or the SEVERIN item no. ZB 8126.
-
No responsibility is accepted if damage results from improper use, or if these instructions are not complied with.
-
This product complies with all binding CE labelling directives.
Before using for the first time
- Remove any packaging materials and stickers from the appliance.
- Clean the grill rack, reflector tray and the tray inserts with warm soapy water; wipe thoroughly dry afterwards.
- Assemble the appliance as described in Preparing the unit.
- Let the grill heat up for approximately 10 minutes at maximum power without any food (see ‘Boost-zone’ grilling). This will remove the smell typically encountered when first switching on a grill. A little smoke may be emitted; for that reason, adequate ventilation should be ensured by opening windows or balcony doors; an extractor hood is also suitable.
Grill assembly
- Assemble the grill as shown in the diagrams:
∙ Place the reflector tray into the grill housing.
∙ Note: Fit the tray inserts so that each insert covers four protrusions.
∙ Fit the heating element with junction box into the reflector tray. The appliance is equipped with a safety switch. The unit can be operated only with the junction box properly installed.
∙ Fit both grill rack elements so that the studs on the rack fit into the corresponding openings in the reflector tray.
Grill cart assembly
- For grill models with grill cart, assemble the cart as shown in the diagram.
- For assembly, a Phillips screwdriver is needed.
- Prior to assembly, check that all parts are complete as listed in the Familiarisation section.
- Assembly:
∙ Place the grill cart frame upside-down on the floor.
∙ Insert the four support legs into the housing and secure each support leg with two big bolts. The two support legs with the additional holes for the wheels must be mounted together on the narrow side of the grill cart.
∙ Turn the frame with the support legs upright.
∙ Fit the plastic frame of the storage rack and secure it on all four support legs, using the corresponding bolts and nuts; then fit the storage rack.
∙ Slide the wheel axles through the openings on the support legs and put on the wheels. Secure each wheel with one of the cotter pins and clip on the wheel covers.
∙ Fit the side tables onto the corresponding metal pins.
∙ Ensure that the grill cart is stable. Check the bolts regularly for firm connection.
∙ Place the assembled grill on top.
Caution:
- Do not exceed a maximum load of 3 kg for the side tables, and 20 kg for the storage rack.
- If you need to move the grill, remove the table on the side opposite from the wheels and grip the frame.
