NOTE
These installation instructions are provided only as a possible customer option. We recommend you use a service or kitchen contracting professional to install your appliance.

Site Installation

Your unit is designed to be part of a built-in kitchen cabinet system. Be sure to coordinate site preparation and installation with your kitchen contractor. Include these minimum guidelines in your site preparation:

  • Choose a place near a grounded electrical outlet.
  • Do not use an extension cord or an adapter plug.
  • Avoid direct sunlight and close proximity to a range, dishwasher or other heat source.
  • The floor should be level and able to support a fully loaded appliance.
  • The ice and water dispenser requires water supply access.
  • Plan for easy access to countertops when removing food.
  • For complete access to drawers and freezer baskets, fully open the doors.

Allow the following clearances for ease of installation, proper air circulation, and plumbing and electrical connections: Sides & Top: ⅜ in. / Rear: 1 in.
NOTE
Information about cabinetry construction for your new appliance is available for contractors. Call 1-877-435-3287.
CAUTION
Room temperatures below 55°F (13°C) or above 110°F (43°C) will impair cooling ability of the compressor.

Transporting to Refrigerator Site

After removing the external packaging from your refrigerator, you may still need to use a hand truck to move it through close spaces or entrances. If the refrigerator is larger than an entrance, consider 2 options:

  • Remove the entrance door if one exists.
  • Remove the refrigerator doors (see how in your Use & Care Manual).

Site

When using a hand truck:

  • Load refrigerator from side of cabinet only.
  • Do not run retaining straps over handles.
  • Do not overtighten retaining straps.
  • Never use refrigerator handles to move the refrigerator.
  • Remove tape from the doors only after unit is in place.

CAUTION
Shifting the refrigerator from side to side may damage flooring.

Water Supply Connection

What you will need:

  • Access to a cold water line with pressure between 30 and 100 psi. FRIGIDAIRE FRSS2623AS Side by Side Refrigerator - Connection
  • A water supply line made of braided stainless steel tubing or polyline. To determine the length needed, measure the distance from the water valve inlet at the back of the refrigerator to your cold water pipe. Then add approximately 6 ft (1.8 m), so you can move the refrigerator out for cleaning.
  • A shutoff valve to connect the water supply line to your household water system. DO NOT use a self-piercing type shutoff valve.
  • While we do not recommend copper water lines, if you choose to use copper, DO NOT reuse compression fitting or use thread seal tape. Use a new compression nut and ferrule (sleeve) for connecting a copper supply line to the inlet water valve.

CAUTION
To avoid property damage:

  • Use a water supply line made of braided stainless steel tubing or polyline.
  • Ensure water supply complies with local plumbing codes.

NOTE
For homes with existing valves, use Smart Choice® water line kit 5304437642 (with a 6 ft. stainless steel water line), and for homes without an existing valve, use Smart Choice ® water line kit 5304493869 (with a 6 ft. polyline water line). Please refer to Frigidaire.com for more information.
To connect the water supply line to the ice maker inlet valve:

  1. Disconnect the unit from the electrical power source.
  2. Place the end of water supply line into a sink or a bucket. Turn ON the water supply and flush the supply line until the water is clear. Turn OFF the water supply at the shutoff valve.
  3. Remove the plastic cap from water valve inlet and discard the cap.
  4. If you use copper tubing, slide brass compression nut, and then ferrule (sleeve) onto water supply line. Push water supply line into water valve inlet as far as it will go (¼” / 6.4 mm). Slide ferrule (sleeve) into valve inlet and finger tighten compression nut onto valve. Tighten another ½ turn with a wrench; DO NOT overtighten. See Figure 1.FRIGIDAIRE FRSS2623AS Side by Side Refrigerator - ferruleIf you use braided flexible stainless steel tubing, the nut is already assembled on the tubing. Slide nut onto valve inlet and finger tighten nut onto valve. Tighten another ½ turn with a wrench; DO NOT overtighten. See Figure 2.FRIGIDAIRE FRSS2623AS Side by Side Refrigerator - steel tub
  5. With steel clamp and screw, secure water supply line (copper tubing only) to rear panel of refrigerator as shown.
  6. Coil excess water supply line (copper tubing only), about 2½ turns, behind refrigerator as shown and arrange coils so they do not vibrate or wear against any other surface.
  7. Turn ON the water supply at the shutoff valve and tighten any connections that leak.
  8. Reconnect refrigerator to an electrical power source.

NOTE

  • The ice maker’s fill valve may operate noisily if the household water supply is shut off.
  • After ensuring no water leaks exist at any connection, be sure to check for leaks again in 24 hours.
  • See your Use & Care Manual for detailed information about setting up and operating the ice and water dispensing system.

Permanent Position Placement

If possible, use a hand truck to position the refrigerator directly in front of its cabinet enclosure.
Be careful not to move the refrigerator beyond its water supply (copper tubing) connections.
Plug in the power cord, and push the refrigerator straight back into place.
IMPORTANT
If you are installing your refrigerator without connecting it to a water supply, make sure the ice maker’s power switch is turned Off (see the Use & Care Manual for more details).
CAUTION

  • Shifting the refrigerator from side to side may damage flooring.
  • Do not block the toe grille on the lower front of your refrigerator. Sufficient air circulation is essential for proper operation.

Refrigerator Leveling and Door Adjustment (if necessary)

Installation Checkoff List:

  • All 4 corners of the cabinet must rest firmly on the floor.
  • Level the cabinet at the front and rear ensuring the doors will open, close, and seal properly.
  • Align and level the doors with each other.

FRIGIDAIRE FRSS2623AS Side by Side Refrigerator - Door
Adjustment

Level the cabinet using the leveling feet:

  1. Open both doors and remove the toe grille (see Toe Grille Installation and Removal in the INSTALLATION section of your Use & Care Manual).
  2. Level the cabinet at the front and rear so the front is raised ¼” (6 mm) above the rear. Close the doors. Use an adjustable wrench to loosen the feet (A). Once you have lowered the leveling feet slightly, use the wrench on the nut (B) to lower (counterclockwise) or raise (clockwise) the front of the cabinet ensuring the unit is sitting flat on the floor.
  3. Check the pull force on the handles after the unit has run for 5 minutes. This ensures an air-tight seal forms between the door gasket and the metal part of the cabinet.

Level the doors using the adjustable lower hinge:

  1. Before leveling either door, remove set screw that locks door height into position using a 3/32 hex key. (See illustration 1.)
  2. If the freezer door is lower than the refrigerator door (2A) or the refrigerator door is lower than the freezer door (2B), raise the door by turning the adjustment screw counterclockwise using a 12 mm wrench (See illustration 3).
  3. After leveling, verify the door stop contacts the lower hinge and the top of the door does not contact the upper hinge through full movement of the door (from fully closed to fully open).
  4. Reinstall the set screw, locking the door height.
  5. To replace the toe grille, open both doors. Slide the left and right sides of toe grille over the lower hinges of the refrigerator. While pushing the toe grille firmly against cabinet, fasten the bottom clips of the toe grille to the cabinet. Fasten the top clips to the cabinet. Close the doors. Fasten the right and left side clips into the groove of the bottom hinge.

Suggestions

Operation problems are possible if any of the installation tasks are not completed. Here is a list of things to check for:

  • Is the refrigerator’s power cord plugged in?
  • Is the refrigerator connected to the household water supply?
  • If you had to remove the refrigerator and freezer doors, did you reattach water and power connectors at the door hinges? (See the Use & Care Manual for detailed instructions on removing and replacing doors.)
  • Is the ice maker power switch turned On?

Other possibilities to check:

  • Is the power to the receptacle turned on?
  • Is the water filter above the fresh food compartment fully seated (see Use & Care Manual for details)?

If you still have operation problems after checking these suggestions, please see the TROUBLESHOOTING section in your Use & Care Manual.
Congratulations. You are ready to begin enjoying your new refrigerator.
