CRT0702 Track
The Track Guide is design to only be used with SKIL 7-1/4” Circular Saw
CR5440B-00.
WARNING To reduce the risk of injury, the user must read and understand
the Operator’s Manual before using this product. Save these instructions for
future reference.
Connecting Two Track Guides
a. Turn the track guides over with rubber anti-splinter edges facing up.
b. Slide the track guide connector into the slot of one of the track guides.
Approximately half length of the connector should be inserted into the track
guide.
c. Thread two of the provided M5 set screws into the screw holes in the
inserted part of the connector. Turn the screws clockwise with the included
hex key to secure the connector in place (Fig. 1).
NOTE: 4 of the M5 screws are inserted into the screw holes on the track
guide connector at the factory. You will need to loosen or remove the screws
before assembly.
d. Slide the other track guide onto the connector until both track guides are
flush against each other. Tighten two set screws to secure the two track
guides (Fig. 2).
Preparing Track Guide
Prior to using a track guide for the first time, the track guide’s rubber
anti-splinter edges on both sides must be adapted to the SKIL 7-1/4” Circular
Saw CR5440B-00 you use.
a. Place the complete length of track guide onto a scrap workpiece that is at
least 3/4” (19mm) thick.
b. Secure the track guide as described in “Cutting with Track Guide”, step ‘c’
(Fig. 5).
c. Slide the saw onto the track guide and adjust the accuracy of its fit using
the two guide slot adjustment knobs of the saw according to “Cutting with
Track Guide”, step ‘d’ (Fig. 6).
d. Adjust the saw’s bevel angle to 0° when adapting the anti-splinter edge on
90°bevel side (Fig. 3a), and set bevel angle to 45° when adapting the edge on
45°bevel side (Fig. 3b).
e. Set the cutting depth of your saw. Not more than one tooth length of the
blade should extend below the anti-splinter edge to be cut.
f. Start the motor and wait until the blade is fully up to speed. Guide it
uniformly with a slow feed rate through the end of the track guide.
Cutting with Track Guide
WARNING This track guide only suitable for 90° or 45° bevel cut. It will
be damaged if used for other bevel cut angles.
The use of a track guide offers precise, straight, accurate cuts, either at
90° or 45° bevel cuts.
Before making the first cut with the track guide, the rubber anti-splinter
edges on the guide must be adapted to the circular saw used.
The SKIL circular saw CR5440B-00 has a guide slot on the bottom of its foot to
be used with this track guide.
a. Secure the workpiece firmly.
b. If you want to make straight cuts, place the guide onto the workpiece,
making sure the 90° bevel side of the guide aligns with the cutting line you
have drawn on the workpiece. If you are making a 45° bevel cut, align the 45°
bevel side of the guide with your cutting line (Fig. 4).
c. Insert track guide clamps into the slot from each end of the track guide,
then tighten the clamps to secure the track guide to the workpiece (Fig.
5). WARNING Only use the included track guide clamps
to secure the track guide. Using any other clamps may create a risk of injury
and/or property damage.
d. Slide the saw onto the track guide and turn the guide slot adjustment knobs
of the saw clockwise to minimize the gap between the slot in the saw foot and
the raised rib on the track guide, and make sure that the saw can slide freely
on the track guide without swinging sideways (Fig. 6). e. Set the cutting depth 3/16” (5 mm) deeper than the depth you
desire, to allow for the thickness of the track guide.
WARNING Before cutting with the track guide, be sure to firmly lock the
bevel lock lever and depth lock lever to avoid cutting into the guide itself.
f. Switch on the saw and wait until the blade reaches its full speed. Guide
the saw uniformly with a slow feed rate through the end of the track guide.
g. Take extra care when placing saw on portion of the track guide that extends
beyond the leading or ending edge of the workpiece.
h. Allow blade to come to a complete stop before removing the saw from the
guide.
NOTE: The anti-splinter edges are replaceable. Always replace the worn
edges with the new ones to minimize splintering of the workpiece.
Replacing Anti-splinter Edge
The anti-splinter edges help minimize splintering of the workpiece. To function properly, they must be replaced when they are worn or damaged. Use commercially available adhesive anti-splinter edge (also called “splinter guard”).
Storage
The hanging holes on the track guides are designed to hang the track guide(s) to prevent accidental damage.
