Wireless connection setup troubleshooting

NOTE
Only the 2.4 GHz band is supported.

Verify that the printer is within the range of the wireless network. For most networks, the printer must be within 30 m (100 ft) of the wireless access point (wireless router). A USB cable might be required to connect the printer and the computer temporarily. To ensure that the wireless setup information synchronizes correctly, do not connect the USB cable until prompted.

Follow these steps to restore the network settings:

  1. Remove the USB cable from the printer.
  2. Press and hold the Wireless button on the printer control panel for 20 seconds.
  3. When the Attention LED and the Power LED starts blinking together, release the Wireless button. The printer restarts automatically.
  4. When the Ready LED is on, continue to install the software.

If your router supports Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS) mode, try to connect through this mode:

  1. Press the WPS button on your router.
  2. Within two minutes, press and hold the Wireless button on the printer control panel for at least three seconds, and then release the button. The Wireless LED and the Ready LED start blinking together.
  3. Wait while the printer automatically establishes the network connection. It takes up to two minutes. When the network connection is established, the Wireless LED stops blinking and remains on.
  4. Continue to install the software.

Check the Wireless LED status from the printer control panel:

  1. If the Wireless LED is off, it means that the wireless connection is not established.
Press the Wireless button on the printer control panel.
After the Wireless LED starts blinking, continue to install the software. When the network connection is established, the Wireless LED stops blinking and remains on.

  2. If the Wireless LED is on, it means that the wireless connection is established.
    a. Check the network name (SSID) info on the Configuration Report/Network Summary: Press and hold the Resume/Cancel Ready LED to start blinking. After you release the Resume/Cancel
    b. Make sure the computer is connected to the same wireless network to which you are connecting the printer.
    c. Continue to install the software.

  3. If the Wireless LED is blinking, it means that the wireless connection is not established.
Restart the printer and the router.
Manually connect the printer to your wireless network. Use Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS) to connect the printer if the router supports WPS, or continue to the next step.
Uninstall and reinstall the HP software.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does this work with apple products?

It's probably AirPrint compatible but If i were getting another printer, I'd get one with the LCD. This thing is super frustrating and I work in IT and have setup hundreds of printers. The other HP's, 5525,6978 etc are much better.

How long does the toner last?

I’m impressed with the number of copies I get. Usually 500-700 and I use the generic cartridge I purchased in Amazon. The original cartridge that came with the printer didn’t last very long.

Does this product support auto duplex printing?

The M15w supports manual duplexing, but not automatic.

Does this just drop the pages off the side? I don't see where the printed pages are caught/collected.

There is a part that you open that drops down in front of the printer and that serves as your paper tray.

Can I hook the printer up/in to a desktop computer?

Yes you can hook it up to a desktop computer. It comes with a usb cable just for that purpose. I don’t know if you have WiFi. If you do it’s much easier to set up the printer and all you need is 120-volt power outlet. So you could plug the printer into any socket, like in your kitchen, garage, and bathroom. Anywhere you receive a WiFi signal. And if you have a smartphone that is connected to your WiFi, you can print directly from your phone by simply touching the box at the bottom of your screen that looks like a little box with a arrow pointing upwards (that means to send to) scroll through the little menu till you see “print “, it will ask you to select a printer, once that’s done, you send it off to the printer. You can print pictures, screenshots, internet pages, basically anything on your phone.

Does HP offer any official smart app for mobile printing?

Can I print from my iPhone?

Yes, you can. It supports air print so even MacBooks and iPads can print.

Is this a monochrome printer?

Yes, it is. Unless you must have color, this is a great little printer- small footprint, stylist, easy to transport.

Can you close the paper feeder door with paper inside? Or do you have to take it out and load every time?

NO, you can’t leave papers inside. Remember, it is a very small printer, there is not enough room for paper to stay in side. Btw, it very easy to just put papers on the place every time you want to print.

Will this print an image onto 3m reflective vinyl?

Unless the vinyl is designed for use with a laser printer, no it won't work. The heat from the fuser may damage the vinyl as it goes through.

Does it print checks?

How deep is the printer with the tray open & paper in it?

I just measured it and with paper in the tray, from the tip of the form to the back of the printer, it's almost exactly 15 inches. It's a great printer, very fast. I have some issues where I might have to wait for a minute or so to kick into gear for some reason, but overall speedy and great quality print.

Why would a printer need internet access??? My computer yes, but why a printer?

If you have a wireless network, you do have the option to connect this HP Laserjet Pro m15w printer. If you don't have a wireless network, you can connect this printer to your computer with the USB A to B cable.
