The thermostat should be installed and adjusted by qualified personnel only. The relevant safety regulations must be observed. Check the voltage and the rated power of the switching circuit. Follow the “General installation instructions for self-regulating heating cables”.

Product overview

nVent RAYCHEM AT-TS thermostats provide temperature control in non-hazardous area.
The temperature set point can be checked through a window in the lid. LED’s are providing an indication when the relay contact is closed (Heating ON) and when the temperature sensor is defect (sensor break or sensor short-circuit).
The temperature sensor has a length of 3 meter and can be shortened for ambient sensing operating. Direct connection of the heating cable is possible. Connection kits need to be ordered separately. The thermostat is available in 2 temperature ranges.

Functional description

When the temperature exceeds the setpoint, the switching contact opens and switches the heating cable off.
When the temperature falls below the setpoint, the switching contact closes. The integrated green LED display lights up to indicate that the heating cable is switched on. In the event of a sensor defect, the switching contact closes. The integrated red LED display lights up to indicate that there is a defect. In the event of power loss, the switching contact opens.

Installation

A. Pipe line sensing control

  1. Attach temperature sensor to the pipe with adhesive tape. The sensor should rest firmly against the pipe without intermediate space. The minimum distance of the sensor from fittings and the pipe end is 1 m. The angle of the pipe between the heating cable and the sensor should be 90-120°.
  2. Mount the housing in the required position.
  3. Adjust the temperature setpoint. Finish the wiring and insulation. Only operate with insulated sensor.
  4. Fill the pipes, check the operating points with a thermometer and correct if necessary. Due to the low heat conductivity of non-metallic pipes, adjust the thermostat operating point only when the pipe is full.

B. Ambient sensing thermostat (not recommended for AT-TS-14)
Select a suitable place for installation of the thermostat and the sensor for ambient temperature measurement.
In case of outdoor installation of the thermostat, the sensor cable can be made shorter so that the sensor is located within the screwed gland (M16).
Make sure NOT to mount the sensor tip in direct sunlight or wind exposure; a sun and rain cover is recommended.
Do not install the thermostat under the insulation.
