Frequently Asked Questions

Does this fan oscillate?

Does it have an oil port on the motor?

Had this fan for 5 years, and it is one of the best fans you can buy. Problems are it doesn't oscillate, and the fan gets full of dust. Recently the fan started making a noise and the fan blade was not moving. Took the fan apart including the motor and motor housing. Cleaned all of the dust out and sprayed some of the plastic parts in the shower with hot water. The motor rotor was still not spinning, so lubricated both ends of the rotor rod with wd40, and it is back to new again. Have the Vornado heater, and that's a nice product. Looking for another large Vornado fan with a stand and oscillation, remote.

Does anyone use this fan to force cool air from downstairs, up into the warmer second level of home, by placing it near the foot of a staircase?

I have this fan on the floor of a room that sits below a balcony hallway. I have the fan pointed to move the cool air up into the higher spaces. It seems to move a large amount of air pretty quickly and relatively quietly compared to other fans twice its diameter. It quickly mixes the cooler air from below with the warmer air up in the high spaces to even out the temperature. I have an eco bee system with multiple temperature monitors. When I turn on the fan the temperature in the upstairs drops by two or three degrees in about 10-15 minutes.

Does this fan automatically rotate back and forth, or does is it just stay in one set position?

No the fan does not rotate and it is not made to be faced directly on you. It is designed to move the air in the room and it does exactly that. It cools down a room fairly quick and you will know when you turn it off.

Is this fan made in China or the USA?

It's engineered in USA and made in China. If you are still interested, the Vornado Heavy Duty Circulator 293HD is engineered and assembled in the USA. I owned both. It's has a manual 3 speed knob and a little bit louder in the low speed since the rpm is higher. The performance for pushing the air around is the same. It's yellow and gray in color. It's great for both indoors and outdoors as long as you don't mind the color and higher noise.

Does this fan cool down a room without air conditioning?

With an air conditioner the Vornado 660 makes the room much cooler of course. In answer to your question however, the Vornado does cool the room down, not the coolness you would get from an actual air conditioner, but keeps you cool. FYI, my bedroom is quite large, so I bought two 660s to blow in different directions. I have no complaints about this product.

Will this fan face parallel to the ceiling?

Yes, the fan can be faced perfectly parallel to the ceiling.

Does it come assembled?

Yes, take it out of the box, and plug it in. Push one of four buttons to select fan speed.

Does this fan come apart for cleaning?

How many watts does this fan use?

It has 4 speeds, the wattage is 60W, 49W, 39W, and 35W respectively. Measured with a wattage meter for just a few seconds though, should be giving you a general idea.

What is the blade length?

The blade diameter is 7.34 inches.
