TRIM-TEX Buttboard Drywall Backer Installation
Product Information: ButtboardTM Drywall Backer
The ButtboardTM Drywall Backer by Trim-Tex is a specially engineered OSB plank that eliminates butt-joint bulges and creates a tapered edge that requires less time and joint compound to finish. It is a favorite among professional drywall finishers.
Product Usage Instructions
Before Installation
Install the first drywall sheet with the butt end centered between framing
members.
Installation Guide
- Step 1: Center the Buttboard on the backside of the drywall.
- Step 2: Install screws every 8-12 set in 1 from the drywall edge.
- Step 3: Butt the end of the second drywall sheet to the end of the first sheet. Leave out the screws at the framing member nearest to the butt end. Install screws every 8-12 set in 1 from the butt edge.
- Step 4: Finish fastening both sheets to the framing members.
- Step 5: Tape and mud the butt joint.

Step 3:
Butt end of second drywall sheet to end of first sheet. Leave out the screws at the framing member nearest to butt end. Install screws every 8”-12” set in 1” from butt edge. -
Step 4:
Finish fastening both sheets to framing members. -
Step 5:
Tape and mud butt joint.
