persons
IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
When using an electrical appliance, basic precautions should always be
followed, including the following:
READ ALL INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE USING THIS APPLIANCE to reduce the risk of
fire, electric shock, or injury:
- Do not leave appliance when plugged in. Unplug from outlet when not in use and before servicing.
- Do Not Expose To Rain -Store Indoors.
- Do not allow to be used as a toy. Close attention is necessary when used by or near children.
- Use only as described in this manual. Use only manufacturer’s recommended attachments.
- Do not use with damaged cord or plug. If appliance is not working as it should, has been dropped, damaged, left outdoors, or dropped into water, return it to a service center.
- Do not pull or carry by cord, use cord as a handle, close a door on cord, or pull cord around sharp edges or corners. Do not run appliance over cord. Keep cord away from heated surfaces.
- Do not unplug by pulling on cord. To unplug, grasp the plug, not the cord.
- Do not handle plug or appliance with wet hands.
- Do not put any object into openings. Do not use with any opening blocked; keep free of dust, lint, hair, and anything that may reduce air flow.
- Keep hair, loose clothing, fingers, and all parts of body away from openings and moving parts.
- Turn off all controls before unplugging.
- This appliance is provided with double insulation. Use only identical replacement parts. See instructions for Servicing of Double-Insulated Appliances.
- FOR HOUSEHOLD USE ONLY.
- Stay alert, watch what you are doing and use common sense when operating an appliance. Do not use an appliance while you are tired or under the influence of drugs, alcohol or medication. A moment of inattention while operating appliances may result in serious personal injury.
- Connect to a properly grounded outlet only. See Grounding Instructions.
- This appliance is provided with double insulation. Use only identical replacement parts. See instructions for Servicing of Double-Insulated Appliances.
- Unplug before connecting blower tube.
- Maintain labels and nameplates on the appliance. These carry important safety information. If unreadable or missing, contact Harbor Freight Tools for a replacement.
- People with pacemakers should consult their physician(s) before use. Electromagnetic fields in close proximity to heart pacemaker could cause pacemaker interference or pacemaker failure.
- The warnings, precautions, and instructions discussed in this instruction manual cannot cover all possible conditions and situations that may occur. It must be understood by the operator that common sense and caution are factors which cannot be built into this product, but must be supplied by the operator.
Vibration Safety
This tool vibrates during use.
Repeated or long-term exposure to vibration may cause temporary or permanent
physical injury, particularly to the hands, arms and shoulders.
To reduce the risk of vibration-related injury:
- Anyone using vibrating tools regularly or for an extended period should first be examined by a doctor and then have regular medical check-ups to ensure medical problems are not being caused or worsened from use. Pregnant women or people who have impaired blood circulation to the hand, past hand injuries, nervous system disorders, diabetes, or Raynaud’s Disease should not use this tool. If you feel any symptoms related to vibration (such as tingling, numbness, and white or blue fingers), seek medical advice as soon as possible.
- Do not smoke during use. Nicotine reduces the blood supply to the hands and fingers, increasing the risk of vibration-related injury.
- Wear suitable gloves to reduce the vibration effects on the user.
- Use tools with the lowest vibration when there is a choice.
- Include vibration-free periods each day of work.
- Grip tool as lightly as possible (while still keeping safe control of it). Let the tool do the work.
- To reduce vibration, maintain the tool as explained in this manual. If any abnormal vibration occurs, stop use immediately.
SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS
WARNING
TO PREVENT ELECTRIC SHOCK AND DEATH FROM INCORRECT GROUNDING WIRE CONNECTION:
Check with a qualified electrician if you are in doubt as to whether the
outlet is properly grounded. Do not modify the power cord plug provided with
the tool. Never remove the grounding prong from the plug. Do not use the tool
if the power cord or plug is damaged. If damaged, have it repaired by a
service facility before use. If the plug will not fit the outlet, have a
proper outlet installed by a qualified electrician.
Grounded Tools: Tools with Three Prong Plugs
- Tools marked with “Grounding Required” have a three wire cord and three prong grounding plug. The plug must be connected to a properly grounded outlet. If the tool should electrically malfunction or break down, grounding provides a low resistance path to carry electricity away from the user, reducing the risk of electric shock. (See 3-Prong Plug and Outlet.)
- The grounding prong in the plug is connected through the green wire inside the cord to the grounding system in the tool. The green wire in the cord must be the only wire connected to the tool’s grounding system and must never be attached to an electrically “live” terminal. (See 3-Prong Plug and Outlet.)
- The tool must be plugged into an appropriate outlet, properly installed and grounded in accordance with all codes and ordinances. The plug and outlet should look like those in the preceding illustration. (See 3-Prong Plug and Outlet.)
Double Insulated Tools: Tools with Two Prong Plugs
- Tools marked “Double Insulated” do not require grounding. They have a special double insulation system which satisfies OSHA requirements and complies with the applicable standards of Underwriters Laboratories, Inc., the Canadian Standard Association, and the National Electrical Code.
- Double insulated tools may be used in either of the 120 volt outlets shown in the preceding illustration. (See Outlets for 2-Prong Plugs.)
Power Cord Safety
WARNING! – To reduce the risk of electric shock, use only with an extension cord intended for outdoor use, such as an extension cord of cord type SW-A, SOW-A, STW-A, STOW-A, SJW-A, SJOW-A, SJTW-A. or SUTOW-A.
- Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI) protection should be provided on the circuit(s) or outlet(s) to be used for the gardening appliance. Receptacles are available having built-in GFCI protection and may be used for this measure of safety.
- Do not Abuse Cord – Do not carry appliance by cord or yank it to disconnect from receptacle. Keep cord from heat, oil, and sharp edges.
- To reduce the risk of electric shock, this appliance has a polarized plug (one blade is wider than the other) and will require the use of a polarized extension cord. The appliance plug will fit into a polarized extension cord only one way. If the plug does not fit fully into the extension cord, reverse the plug. If the plug still does not fit, obtain a correct polarized extension cord. A polarized extension cord will require the use of a polarized wall outlet. This plug will fit into the polarized wall outlet only one way. If the plug does not fit fully into the wall outlet, reverse the plug. If the plug still does not fit, contact a qualified electrician to install the proper wall outlet. Do not change the equipment plug, extension cord receptacle, or extension cord plug in any way. This design is referred to as double-insulated, indicated by IE‘
- Extension Cord – Make sure your extension cord is in good condition. When using an extension cord, be sure to use one heavy enough to carry the current your product will draw. An undersized extension cord will cause a drop in line voltage resulting in loss of power and overheating.
Extension Cord Size
The following table shows the correct cord size to use depending on cord
length and nameplate ampere rating. If in doubt, use the next heavier gauge.
The smaller the gauge number, the heavier the cord.
TABLE A- EXTENSION MINIMUM WIRE GAUGE FOR CORDS (120 VOLT)
Ampere Rating (at full load)| EXTENSION CORD LENGTH
25′| 50′| 100′| 150′
0 – 6| 18| 16| 16| 14
6 – 10| 18| 16| 14| 12
10 – 12| 16| 16| 14| 12
12 – 16| 14| 12| Not recommended
Connecting Cords
To reduce the risk of disconnection of the appliance cord from the extension
cord during operating, this unit is equipped with a cord retainer. Route
extension cord around Cord Retainer.
Servicing of ble lated Applies A double-insulated appliance is marked with one
or more of the following:
The words “DOUBLE INSULATION” or “DOUBLE INSULATED” or the double insulation
symbol (square within a square): B
In a double-insulated appliance, two systems of insulation are provided
instead of grounding.
No grounding means is provided on a double-insulated appliance, nor should a
means for grounding be added to the appliance. Servicing a double-insulated
appliance requires extreme care and knowledge of the system, and should be
done only by qualified service personnel. Replacement parts for a double-
insulated appliance must be identical to the parts they replace.
Polarization Instructions
To reduce the risk of electric shock, this appliance has a polarized plug (one
blade is wider than the other). This plug will fit in a polarized outlet only
one way.
If the plug does not fit fully in the outlet, reverse the plug. If it still
does not fit, contact a qualified electrician to install the proper outlet. Do
not change the plug in any way.
