Product Usage Instructions

1. Before connecting the appliance to the mains supply, read the instructions carefully.
2. Installation of the unit, any refrigeration repair and/or electrical work must only be carried out by a suitably qualified person.
3. Ensure that the area around the cabinet has a minimum clearance of 70mm at the top, back, and sides. The power socket must be accessible for disconnection from the power supply without having to move the unit. Obstructing the front grill will invalidate the guarantee.
4. The main display on the controller will show the average product temperature inside the cabinet during normal operation.
5. To adjust the cabinet temperature, press and release up/down arrows. After 30 seconds, the display will automatically revert to showing the current temperature.
6. To enter defrost mode, press the up-arrow button for more than 5 seconds. The green defrost symbol (a small melting snowflake next to the main display) is lit, and the main display shows DEF. The unit exits defrost mode after about 2-3 minutes (defrost symbol will turn off).
7. Service calls required for adjustments to the set point/or faults arising from a set point temperature that has been changed from the factory setting are not covered under the terms of the warranty.
8. Failure to keep the condenser clean will invalidate the warranty.
9. When replacing components, use the same type and dimensional tube. Reconnect the push-on connectors and refit the covers and/or push the tubes into the clips.
10. Dispose of the unit at the end of its life cycle in accordance with local rules and regulations. Please check with your local authority or contact Staycold for up-to-date information on safe and compliant recycling of the appliance.

Instruction Manual for All Staycold Models

Thank you for selecting a new Staycold unit for your business. We have designed a premium quality product which incorporates the latest innovations in refrigeration technology to save energy and improve performance. Properly maintained, it is designed to give many years of reliable service. Please read the following instructions carefully as they contain important information concerning the safety, installation, operation and maintenance of the unit. These units can operate in temperatures up to 42°C and 75% RH. Do not connect the appliance to the mains supply until you have read the following information.

WARNING: The installation of this unit, any refrigeration repair and/or electrical work must only be carried out by a suitably qualified person

Most Staycold Units are manufactured using R290 or Hydrocarbon gas as a refrigerant. There are specific cautions that should be noted when dealing with this refrigerant as it is flammable. Certain areas of this document will refer to such cautions and will be identified by being highlighted in red bold text

Safety

• This appliance is designed and intended for indoor use.
• Always disconnect the unit from the mains before attempting any cleaning, maintenance or removing the grill and / or the top electric cover / header Panel.
• Should the power supply cord be damaged, it must be replaced by the manufacturer, service agent or a qualified technician.
• Do not place or use any electrical appliance inside the storage compartment of the unit.
• Do not store explosive substances such as aerosol cans with a flammable propellant in this Unit.
• This appliance can be used by children aged from 8 years and above and persons with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities or lack of experience and knowledge only if they have been given supervision or instruction concerning use of the appliance in a safe way and understand the hazards involved. Children shall not play with the appliance. Cleaning and user maintenance shall not be undertaken by children without supervision.
• Do not use any mechanical devices or other means to accelerate the defrosting process. Defrosting is performed automatically by the electronic controller and needs no user Intervention – Refer to the troubleshooting guide if the unit is not defrosting correctly.
• Do not damage the refrigeration circuit. If you do so, open a window or door immediately to ventilate the area and seek assistance from a qualified professional to repair – the refrigerant may be flammable.
• This appliance may contain a flammable gas within its sealed refrigeration system. As such it is mandatory that the cabinet is serviced, and at end-of-life, recycled, by a professional organisation/skilled person who have the necessary qualifications, certificates and expertise to do so. If in doubt, consult your Local Authority or contact Staycold.
• Lighting should only be replaced by the type and wattage as what is to be replaced.
• A LED tube may not be replaced with a fluorescent tube or visa/versa.
• Do not exceed the max 50kg weight limit per shelf.
• Do not use the unit for any purpose other than as a food or beverage display merchandiser.
• Do not cover the front or rear grill as this can cause the unit to malfunction and potential fire risk.
• Do not probe any openings in the cabinet and be careful not to touch any moving parts such as the fans, or hot surfaces such as the compressor, or rear pipework; or cold surfaces such as the interior surfaces or the evaporator coil.
• The appliance must only be charged with the refrigerant indicated on the rating label; such refrigerant must be obtained from an authorized supplier. To use another type of refrigerant would be dangerous and is not permitted under any circumstances.
• Electrical equipment should not be placed under the unit or where refrigerant could gather in the event of a leak.
• Do not overload the power supply. Always ensure that the power supply is enough for the power requirements of the unit. These are stated on the rating label which is on the inside top left of the unit. If in doubt consult a qualified electrician. Never use extension leads or multi adapters. The unit must always be earthed.
• If the unit is to be transported to a new location, it must always be in an upright position to prevent damage to the compressor and the refrigeration piping.

Installation

• Do not move or tilt the appliance if it is connected to the mains.
• During all operations, please be careful not to jolt, jar, bump or thump the cabinet. Handle it gently and with care. The refrigeration pipework is delicate and will be damaged by rough handling.
• The room into which the unit is to be installed must be well ventilated and free from sources of ignition. It must not be in a position where refrigerant could gather in the event of a leak. If it is below ground level, then extra precautions may be necessary, and an expert should be consulted.
• Do not place near to a source of static electricity or where it is directly or indirectly vulnerable to lightning strike(s).
• Try not to place the unit next to a source of heat or humidity such as a glass/dish washer, heater outlet, oven or any other potential heat or humidity emitting appliance or structure.
• Unpack the unit and be sure to dispose of the packaging in accordance with all local recycling laws and regulations.
• Please ensure that polystyrene and other articles are kept away from children.
• Remove the polystyrene support blocks carefully and gently place the unit on the floor. Refrigeration is delicate and may be damaged due to impact on the floor.
• Position the unit out of direct sunlight and as far as possible away from any other heat source.
• Remove the transit screws and stoppers that have been installed on sliding door models. This is to prevent door movement during transport and are fitted to the top rail and a stopper in the bottom door guide.
• Unpack the grill and hook onto the two securing points, louvres facing down, at the front of the unit base.
• The shelves are fitted by means of the shelf hooks supplied. Should the shelves be installed at an angle it is the responsibility of the user to ensure they are properly anchored, and changes to shelves should only be made when the unit is empty.
• Unpack the header panel (advert canopy) and fit by screwing the two p-clamps into the pre punched holes on the top of the unit. Please be sure to comply to height regulations and ensure your own safety when fitting this item.
• The cabinet “breathes” through the front grill and the unit can thus be installed with its back hard against a wall – Freezers units should be afforded as much ventilation as possible.
• The unit must be perfectly level to ensure the doors will work properly. This is done by adjusting the levelling feet installed on the bottom of the base.
• Attach the door handles to the hinge doors with the screws supplied.

Important for units being installed in a cavity

• Units can be installed within a cavity if the front grill is unobstructed. A minimum gap of 70mm must be allowed for at the top, back and sides of the cabinet. The power socket must be accessible for disconnection from the power supply without having to move the unit. Obstructing the front grill will invalidate the guarantee.

Using the appliance

• Connect the unit to a power supply. The unit requires a stable 220V/50Hz supply to operate effectively. Please take care not pinch or damage the power cord whilst doing this and to observe all warnings a procedures mentioned within this document.
• The unit must be loaded in such a way the internal air vents are not blocked, and cold air can circulate the contents freely. Failure to do so will cause cooling problems and invalidate the guarantee.
• On sliding doors, a small catch is installed at the top back of the right-hand door that latches into the left door allowing the doors to remain open for loading. Once loaded release the catch and the doors will close. Never attempt to use the unit with the doors open for prolonged periods.
• Electrical efficiency is important and for this reason no electrical elements, to counter condensation, are fitted.
• The appliance has been factory set to run between 1 and 4 Centigrade (Freezer set point -20C). Alteration is not recommended or required. In areas with high humidity it is recommended to keep the lights on thus preventing condensation within the lamps.
• Defrosting is performed automatically with no input required from the user. The unit will evaporate condensate water from a drip tray in the compressor compartment and no external drainage is required.

Controller functions

• Changing the Desired Temperature Set-point.
  • The Set-point temperature is the “target” temperature for the cabinet to reach during its refrigeration cycle – all units will oscillate between this temperature and a temperature 2-3 degrees’ warmer.
  • The main display on the controller will in normally operation show the average product temperature inside cabinet.
  • Press and release up/down arrows to adjust the cabinet temperature (set-point).
  • After 30 seconds the display automatically reverts to showing the current temperature.
  • This temperature has been pre-set by the factory and should not require adjustments
• Turning the lights On/Off.
  • Briefly press the light button (bottom left) on the controller to turn the lights on or off.
  • To enter defrost mode manually (freezers only):
  • Press the up-arrow button for more than 5 seconds to enter defrost mode.
  • The green defrost symbol (a small melting snowflake next to the main display) is lit and the main display shows DEF.
  • After about 2-3 minute the unit exits defrost mode (defrost symbol will turn off, however the main display will continue to show DEF). Current temperature will be displayed within 15 minutes after the manual defrost has been activated.
• ECO Mode:
  • Staycold coolers are supplied with the automatic activation of ECO mode taking place after 2 hours of inactivity. ECO mode reduces the electrical consumption of the unit and one of the effects is the lights turn off in the cabinet.
  • The Automatic activation of ECO mode can be disengaged if products stored in the unit require so – full details on how to do this are available from your Staycold Dealer or from Staycold directly. Models Without Danfoss Controllers (HD520)
• The running temperature of these coolers is factory set at between 3 – 5 degrees centigrade. The temperature can be adjusted by means of the thermostat control knob—located in the compressor area on the HD520.
• Turning the knob little by little in a clockwise direction will lower the temperature. When the ideal temperature has been set, do not attempt to alter the position of the control knob. The cooler will not chill faster by setting a lower temperature. The cooler will automatically work harder if the outside temperature increases.
• The unit is not designed to cool to lower than 2°C.
• Avoid turning the control knob to, or close to, the extreme clockwise direction. If you do, you risk freezing the contents and a subsequent malfunction and freezing of the cooling system.

Cleaning

• Before carrying out any cleaning please ensure that the unit has been disconnected from the electricity supply.
• The unit should be cleaned periodically with a non-abrasive cleaner and damp cloth. Do not use abrasive powders or cleaners as this will damage the paint finish. Use only chemicals in compliance with local food hygiene laws.
• On sliding door models, the doors may be removed for ease of access. Move the right door to the fully open position. Pull the bottom of the door slightly and tilt towards you. Move the door back to the closed position and gently lift the door out of the runner. The same will apply for the left door and refitting will be the reverse of the above.

Essential Maintenance

• Before any maintenance and/or repair work the unit must be disconnected from the mains supply.
• To maintain maximum operating efficiency and to prolong the life of your Staycold unit, the condenser must be cleaned regularly (at least every 2 months). In dusty environments cleaning should be done more often. The condenser looks like a radiator and is located behind the grill at the bottom of the unit. To remove the grill, lift each end slightly and then pull towards you. The condenser will be easily visible and can be identified by the fan attached to it. Carefully clean the left side (air intake) of the condenser with a soft brush or vacuum cleaner. Please note that condensers and evaporators are delicate components and never use sharp objects to clear any obstructions. Before replacing the grill, please check that the fan is clear from obstructions and the drain pipe is discharging into the drip tray.
  Note: Failure to keep the condenser clean will invalidate the warranty

Replacing light tubes

• Before replacing the light tubes make sure the appliance is switched off and disconnected from the mains supply.
• Remove the light covers by gently pulling them outward. Gently pull the connectors from the tube ends and replace with the same type and dimensional tube. Reconnect the push on connectors and refit the covers and/or push the tubes into the clips.

In the event of not using the unit for extended periods, breakdown, or disposal:

• Disconnect from the power supply. Remove all the products from the storage compartment. Thoroughly clean the unit inside and outside. Leave the doors slightly open so that air can circulated freely. Use the stay open door catch on sliding doors for this purpose.

In the event of a breakdown:

• Disconnect the unit from the mains power supply. Please Contact your dealer for advice and always insist on the use of genuine Staycold spare parts.

Disposing of the unit

Disposing of a unit at the end of its life cycle must be done in accordance with local rules and regulations. Please check with your local Authority or contact Staycold for up-to-date information on safe and compliant recycling of the appliance.

• Please read through this booklet supplied regarding installation and Operation.
• Failure to install the unit correctly invalidates the warranty.
• A call out to a unit that is functioning normally is not covered under warranty.
• Training/guidance on how the cabinet operates is not covered under warranty.
• The warranty will include items such as compressors, fan motors, solenoid valves, controllers, and switches if the unit has been used within normal working conditions.
• Excluded items will be normal wear and tear items, such as, but not limited to, fan blades, motor bushes, lighting, plastic components, shelves and shelf hooks.
• The glass used on all Staycold coolers and freezers is tempered safety glass and will not, with normal handling, fail. Glass is thus excluded from the warranty.
