Installation Sheet

Description
CRR Wall-Mounted Radio Link Alarm Interface Module allows you to transmit a fire alarm from radio linked alarm devices to a control panel, a remote transmitter, a sounder, a beacon, etc. When a radio linked device is in alarm, it sends the information to the radio link alarm interface module, which changes its state, transmitting the alarm information to the intrusion control panel or other device.

Installation
Avoid installing the radio link alarm interface module in a metallic cupboard or cabinet or fixing it on a metallic wall. This may screen against radio waves. Use the integrated radio link quality checking feature to determine the best location.

See Figure 2.

  1. Lid fastening screws
  2. Lid
  3. Radio electronic board screws
  4. Radio electronic board
  5. Housing
  6. White plastic cap
  7. Cable gland

Follow these steps to mount the interface.

  1. Unscrew the lid screws (Figure 2, item 1).
  2. Remove the housing lid (item 2).
  3. Unscrew board screws (item 3) and remove the radio electronic board (item 4).
  4. Mount the module housing (item 5) on the wall.
  5. Wire the radio electronic board. See also Figure 3 for connection details. Use cable glands (Figure 2, item 7) if necessary.
  6. Mount and fasten the radio electronic board.
  7. Close the lid and fasten the lid screws.

DIP switch configuration
Figure 4 shows the DIP switch in its default setting.

DIP switch 1: Auxiliary input

  • On: Auxiliary input closing.
  • Off: Auxiliary input opening.

DIP switch 2: Alarm type

  • On: Type 4 alarm. AFNOR sound on the standalone alarms, no alarm on the smoke detector.
  • Off: Smoke detector alarm. Intermittent sound on the standalone alarms and activated smoke detector.

DIP switch 3: Alarm relay on smoke detector alarm

  • On: No activation of the alarm relay when receiving a smoke detector alarm.
  • Off: Activation of the alarm relay when receiving smoke detector alarm messages.

DIP switch 4: Alarm relay on standalone or manual call point alarm

  • On: No activation of the alarm relay when receiving a standalone or manual call point alarm.
  • Off: Activation of the alarm relay when receiving standalone or manual call point alarm.

Connection
Follow the steps to connect the radio link interface module to a smoke detector or a standalone alarm.

  1. Power up the radio link interface module (slave).
  2. Press for 5 seconds the configuration key on the slave element. beeps sound. The slave element sends a message to be associated to the existing group.
  3. Press the test key of a smoke detector or the validation key of a standalone alarm. A long beep sounds.
  4. Move away to the place chosen for the radio link interface module and check the radio link quality. See “Checking radio link quality” below. 1 to 5 beeps sequences in steps of few seconds.
  5. Mount the slave element on the chosen location.
  6. Press the configuration key of the slave element.
    • 4 beeps: Exit setting optimization mode.
    • 4 beeps: Exit configuration mode.

The system is now operational.
Cancel the connection with a smoke detector or a standalone alarm While in step 2, press for 10 seconds the configuration key instead of 5 seconds. See step 2 above. 4 long beeps will be heard indicating that the connection is cancelled.

Checking radio link quality
When the slave element is in setting optimization mode, 1 to 5 beeps can be heard in steps of few seconds. Check the radio link quality according to the number of beeps.
Signal: Assessment of the radio signal quality

  1. beep: Level too low or signal absent (too many obstacles between unit and the nearest detector)
  2. beeps: Low level: installation is not recommended, try moving a few steps.
  3. beeps: Satisfactory level: installation is possible
  4. beeps: Good level: installation is possible
  5. beeps: Maximum level: no concerns about this installation location

Alarm signal
The interface module receives alarm information from connected smoke detectors, manual call points and standalone alarms. When an alarm information is sent, the interface module red indicator is steady on. 20 seconds after the original alarm has disappeared, the interface module is automatically reset.

Visual and sound identification
Note: The number of beeps and blinks correspond to the radio link quality of the last received signal.
Visual identification

  • Blue indicator: Radio activity.
  • Red indicator on: Alarm signal received.
  • Red indicator blinking: Test signal received.

Sound identification

  • 1 to 5 beeps sequences for 1 minute: Test signal received.
  • 1 to 5 beeps sequences separated by a few seconds: Connection in process.

Test
Regularly perform this test on all the connected smoke detectors. This test can’t be carried out on the connected manual call points or standalone alarms.

One smoke detector test
The one smoke detector test function allows you to check at any time the radio link quality between one smoke detector and the radio link alarm interface module. Press the test key of a connected smoke detector. The test signal is sent to the interface module (for 5 minutes).

  1. For 1 minute: beeps and red blinking indicator.
  2. Then for 4 minutes: red blinking indicator.

Note : The number of beeps and blinks correspond to the radio link quality of the last received signal. To stop the test signal before the end of the test, press the interface module key.
All smoke detectors test
The smoke detectors test function allows you to check at any time the radio link quality between all the connected smoke detectors and the radio link alarm interface module.
Press the interface module key (short press). Test is activated on all the connected smoke detectors. A sound signal indicates that the radio signal is being sent.
Note: This function is inhibited in case of alarm.
