Technical data
WARNING Avoid the risk of electric shock or severe injury. When the power
cable gets damaged it should only be replaced by the manufacturer or at a
**Authorized Service Center. The build quality of the electric insulation is
altered if spills or liquid gets into the tool while in use. Do not expose to
rain, liquids and/or dampness.
WARNING** Before gaining access to the terminals all power sources should
be disconnected.
Power requirements
WARNING Tools with double insulation and reinforced insulation are
equipped with a polarized plug (one prong is wider than the other). This plug
will only fit in the right way into a polarized outlet. If the plug cannot be
introduced into the outlet, reverse the plug. If it still doesn’t fit, call a
qualified electrician to install for you a polarized outlet. Do not alter the
plug in any way. Both types of insulation eliminates the need of both a
grounded third power cord with three prongs or a grounded power connection.
WARNING When using an extension cable, verify the gauge is enough for the
power that your product needs. A lower gauge cable will cause voltage drop in
the line, resulting in power loss and overheating. The following table shows
the right size to use depending on cable’s length and the ampere capability
shown in the tool’s nameplate. When in doubt use the next higher gauge
.
WARNING When operating power tools outdoors, use a grounded extension cable labeled “For Outdoors Use”. These extensions are specially designed for operating outdoors and reduce the risk of electric shock.
General power tool safety warnings

- Damaged or entangled cords increase the risk of electric shock.
- When operating a tool outdoors, use an extension cord suitable for outdoor use.
- Using an adequate outdoor extension cord reduces the risk of electric shock.
- If operating the tool in a damp location cannot be avoided, use a ground fault circuit interrupter (GFCI) protected supply.
- Using a GFCI reduces the risk of electric shock.
Personal safety
- Stay alert, watch what you are doing and use common sense when operating a tool. Do not use a power tool while you are tired or under the influence of drugs, alcohol or medication.

Safety warnings for orbit sanders
- CAUTION Observe the applicable regulations when sanding painted surfaces. Use special care when the paint is lead-based.
- Remove dust and any other type of debris to assure a safe working environment. When possible use a vacuum cleaner or a dust extractor.
- CAUTION To be protected against dust and smoke generated when sanding everybody in the work area should wear a professional breathing mask.
- Do not use this tool for sanding pieces containing magnesium.
- After long work cycles the metallic outer parts and accessories may get hot.
- CAUTION Wear ****professional breathing mask and cartridges suited for paint dust and vapors. Regular painter masks do not offer the right protection.
- WARNING Do not allow children and pregnant women enter the work area.
- WARNING Remove the dust bag before sanding metal. Sparks may ignite dust and the inner pouch.
- Do not use worn or ripped sanding sheets.
- Do not touch the sandpaper when moving.
- Before sanding, double-check all foreign objects such as nails or screws are removed from the work piece.
- WARNING Hold the tool by the insulated grip, as the sander could make contact with its own power cord. Contact with a power cord makes the metal parts of the tool also have current and may result in a shock to the operator.
Parts
Preparation
Sanding Disc Selection
- Grains available vary from very coarse to very fine.
- Coarse grain is used to sand rough surfaces, medium grain, for light work and fine grain is for smooth finish.
- It is advisable to carry out tests over a disposable piece to determine the adequate grain for a particular job.
- Do not use the same disc for wood and for metal. Metal particles can get embedded in the sanding and ill-treat a wooden surface.
Installing a Sanding Disc
- WARNING Always double check the sander is off and disconnected from the power supply before installing the sandpaper.
- Select the right sanding grain.
- Remove dust and debris from the pad and it hook and loop base (A).
- Align the sanding disc orifices with the orifices in the pad. Press firmly. Proper alignment of the holes allows for dust suction to work.
- To remove the sanding disc tear it out from its base (B).
- CAUTION Clean regularly dust accumulated in the hook and loop base. Do not wait for the disc to be completely worn out before replacing it. Otherwise, the hook and loop base can get damaged and will lose adherence with the sandpaper.
- CAUTION The hook and loop base is considered as a consumable and is not covered by the Warranty.
- CAUTION If premature wear of the hook and loop fastening is occuring, it is possible that it is due to pressure being applied to the tool during operation.
Dust Extraction
- Before connecting the tool to the power supply, adjust the dust bag into the dust extraction duct in the rear or the sander (D).
- To get an optimal dust extraction, remove and empty the dust bag when is half-full.
- Use the dust bag when sanding wood.
- WARNING Do no use when sanding metal. The metal particles could ignite the residual wood dust or the inner pouch.
- Make sure to regularly clean the dust accumulated in the dust bag and the hook and loop base.
Start-up
Switch On
- Connect the plug into the power outlet.
- To start the tool, press switch (C) into the ON position ( I ).
- To shut off the tool, press the switch to the opposite side.
- CAUTION Do not start the tool when the sander surface is onto the work piece.
- Before shutting off the machine, keep it away from the work piece.
This sander was designed to sand wood, metal, plastic and similar materials. Can be used for repetitive sanding jobs and finishing. Due to its size, is ideal for final jobs.
Sander Operation
- Switch on the sander before setting it onto the work piece.
- Keep the sander base parallel to the work piece surface.
- Press lightly downwards onto the work piece. Make circular movements. Be sure the full sanding area is supported on the work piece.
- Ensure the pressure is moderated. Do not force the sander. Make it work at a reasonable speed. If too much pressure is applied, the motor speed could be slower due to overheating. It could cause insufficient sanding and damage to the motor.
- If after sanding, the surface is still showing marks, sand again with a coarser grain to eliminate the marks. Replace the sanding disc with the next one and finish sanding. Or, replace the worn sanding disc with a new one.
- Do not let the sanding disc be totally worn out. Replace it before this happens.
Maintenance
Cleaning and Care
Always keep the ventilation slots in the motor housing clean and free of
obstructions. After each use apply compressed air. In the event of
malfunctioning go only to a ****Authorized Service Center.
Carbon Brush Replacement
- Carbon brushes need to be checked regularly and when worn, replaced in a ****Authorized Service Center.
- After the carbons have been replaced, ask the technician to inspect if they run freely in the carbon housing and to let run the machine 5 minutes to make even the contact of carbon and commuter.
- Use only ****original spare carbon brushes, designed specifically with the strength and electric resistance fit for each type of motor. Carbon brushes that are out of specifications may damage the motor.
- When replacing carbon brushes always change both pieces.
