Please read the following instructions carefully and observe the warning instructions before using the system.
About your mattress
The system
OSKA Air Overlay is an overlay system that is designed to be placed onto an
ordinary mattress or an OSKA underlay. It is designed to be used for nursing
care at home or in a nursing facility environment.
Application – in regular bed types is possible, however, preference is given to a patient profile nursing bed. The system consists of a control unit featuring a membrane pump and a bed overlay with 17 air cells arranged in a transverse manner. The entire cell unit is equipped with a bi-elastic PU protection cover.
Recommendations
OSKA Air Overlay system is recommended to be used for pressure ulcers up to
and including category 2 (medium to high-risk). For higher-risk patients, you
should use the appropriate system from OSKA.
Capacity
OSKA Air Overlay system is recommended for patients weight up to 130kg.
Heavier patients are better accommodated with a more appropriate OSKA pressure
system.
System set-up
- Place the pump on a horizontal surface or hang it by means of the hook.
- The open mattress on the bed, and secure it with the end flaps or straps. Air tubes must be at the foot end of the bed.
- Connect air feed tubes to the air outlet on the mattress and pump (see 1), ensuring that the tubes are not kinked or twisted. Allow space for bed rails to drop freely.
- Turn on the pump power (see 2). The power switch indicator will come on. The pump will start pumping air into the mattress.
- The low pressure indicator (see 3 yellow or red) will come on as inflation takes place.
- The audible alarm won’t alarm within 60 minutes and will be activated if the pressure is still low inside the mattress. In case of low pressure, check the connection and products. Press the alarm reset button (see 4) to mute the audible alarm, its indicator will flash.
- The pump will automatically default to setting ‘5’ whilst inflating. Leave the mattress to fully inflate for 60 minutes before attempting to change the pump setting.
Operation
- When the pressure reaches the pre-set level (within approximately 30 minutes), the normal pressure indicator will come on and the low-pressure indicator will turn off.
- Turn the pressure dial (see 5) to set a comfortable pressure level from 40kg –130kg according to the approximate weight of the patient.
- Press the static button to activate the static mode, the static indicator will come on. The static mode will start within approximately 6 minutes. Press the static button again to switch back to alternating mode.
