Please read the following instructions carefully and observe the warning instructions before using the system.

About your mattress

The system
OSKA Air Overlay is an overlay system that is designed to be placed onto an ordinary mattress or an OSKA underlay. It is designed to be used for nursing care at home or in a nursing facility environment.

Application – in regular bed types is possible, however, preference is given to a patient profile nursing bed. The system consists of a control unit featuring a membrane pump and a bed overlay with 17 air cells arranged in a transverse manner. The entire cell unit is equipped with a bi-elastic PU protection cover.

Recommendations
OSKA Air Overlay system is recommended to be used for pressure ulcers up to and including category 2 (medium to high-risk). For higher-risk patients, you should use the appropriate system from OSKA.

Capacity
OSKA Air Overlay system is recommended for patients weight up to 130kg. Heavier patients are better accommodated with a more appropriate OSKA pressure system.

System set-up

  1. Place the pump on a horizontal surface or hang it by means of the hook.
  2. The open mattress on the bed, and secure it with the end flaps or straps. Air tubes must be at the foot end of the bed.
  3. Connect air feed tubes to the air outlet on the mattress and pump (see 1), ensuring that the tubes are not kinked or twisted. Allow space for bed rails to drop freely.
  4. Turn on the pump power (see 2). The power switch indicator will come on. The pump will start pumping air into the mattress.
  5. The low pressure indicator (see 3 yellow or red) will come on as inflation takes place.
  6. The audible alarm won’t alarm within 60 minutes and will be activated if the pressure is still low inside the mattress. In case of low pressure, check the connection and products. Press the alarm reset button (see 4) to mute the audible alarm, its indicator will flash.
  7. The pump will automatically default to setting ‘5’ whilst inflating. Leave the mattress to fully inflate for 60 minutes before attempting to change the pump setting.OSKA-WP80-044-Air-Overlay-Mattress-fig-1

Operation

  1. When the pressure reaches the pre-set level (within approximately 30 minutes), the normal pressure indicator will come on and the low-pressure indicator will turn off.
  2. Turn the pressure dial (see 5) to set a comfortable pressure level from 40kg –130kg according to the approximate weight of the patient.
  3. Press the static button to activate the static mode, the static indicator will come on. The static mode will start within approximately 6 minutes. Press the static button again to switch back to alternating mode.OSKA-WP80-044-Air-Overlay-Mattress-fig-2

System maintenance

  • Maintenance at regular intervals (mandatory every 2 years) is necessary to preserve the function of the OSKA Air Overlay alternating pressure system.
  • Used filters must be exchanged within this period.
  • Maintenance/inspection is carried out by the producer or an authorized firm or engineer at the client’s expense.
  • If the maintenance is not performed within the first 2 years of the product’s life or not conducted by an authorized firm or engineer then the warranty claims become invalid.
  • Damage or any other loss of function arising from the lack of maintenance or interference by an unauthorized party will also invalidate the product’s warranty.

Maintenance/inspection includes the following procedures:

  1. Replace membrane unit
  2. Replace air filter
  3. Replace synchronous motor
  4. Conduct function test/function check
  5. Sealing of case and attaching an inspection sticker
  6. The protective conductor checks in accordance with DIN VDE 0751

Cleaning

Dirt or stains should be removed using warm water with mild detergent and a cloth. Do not use aggressive cleaning agents or solvents. Regular wipe disinfection is recommended using a suitable disinfectant cleaner and following the manufacturer’s guidelines. The Top covers are machine washable. Care must be taken, in order to maintain the integrity of the covers.

Light Blue Cover
This cover can be machine washed up to 70˚C for disinfection, following the manufacturer’s dosing directions. Tumble dry on low heat and ensure the cover is thoroughly dry before replacing.

Dark Blue Cover
This cover can be machine washed up to 95˚C for disinfection, following the manufacturer’s dosing directions. Tumble dry on low heat and ensure the cover is thoroughly dry before replacing.

Waste disposal

The materials used to manufacture the OSKA Air Overlay mattress do not cause any danger to the environment. They may be disposed of with household waste. The pump control unit is considered electrical equipment waste. Please contact the proper waste disposal officials.

WARNING!
For private non-professional operators. In the case of system failure please check:

  1. Is there a sufficient power supply?
  2. Is the unit turned on?
  3. Is the power cord connected properly and is the power plug inserted correctly?
  4. Is the mattress connection tube connected properly?

If all these primary checks have been carried out and the system continues not to function then you must contact the responsible supplier or user who is authorized to effect the maintenance and/or repair of this equipment. Never attempt to repair the system yourself. Fuses may only be exchanged by qualified and authorized personnel.

Warranty

Your OSKA product comes with a 1-year parts and labour warranty. The warranty is based on statutory regulations. The warranty does not apply if the goods supplied by OSKA are processed, handled, or modified by other parties without prior consent from OSKA or if these operating instructions are not followed. For medical devices as understood by the EU – Directive 93/94, whose usage (also operations) is subject to regular service and maintenance, a warranty can be offered only if the service intervals prescribed by OSKA are adhered to.

If during the inspection it is found that damages are due to wear and tear or are not subject to warranty, then OSKA is empowered to claim the expenses (inspection, transport costs, etc) from the client. The use of parts or individual components of other systems or products or combinations thereof is not permissible. Warranty claims become invalid should any damage result from this kind of conduct and therefore remain the responsibility of the user/owner.
