GLO PRO POWER+ In Office Teeth Whitening Steps In Detail
Indicates Technique Sensitive Step
(will impact results)
Take initial teeth shade; share with the patient and enter in chart; photograph patient’s “before” smile (with and without matching shade tab).
Universal fit mouthpiece has a flexible arch and fits most patients without adjustment. If needed, ends can be squeezed together or pushed apart.
Pumice patient’s teeth. Use only white pumice to clean the teeth, no prophy paste or fluoride.
Squeeze ends of GLO cheek retractor together, place one side in mouth, and then the other side (GLO logo should be visible inside the mouth, resting on the tongue). Place a folded cotton roll under tongue for added dryness while building barrier (may need to be switched out once saturated).
Start with the upper arch. Air dry upper gingiva with air/water syringe; apply GLO gingival barrier to gingival margin (and CEJ), and make sure to cover all the attached gingiva 4-5mm. Extend distal at least one tooth.
If recession is present, cover these areas to prevent sensitivity. Apply gingival barrier to incisal edges on upper and lower anterior teeth. Light cure immediately after gingival barrier placement.
Proceed with the lower arch. Air dry lower gingiva with air/water syringe; apply GLO gingival barrier to gingival margin (and CEJ) and make sure to cover all attached gingiva 4-5mm and light cure.
Place folded, 2×2 gauze in top and bottom lip vestibules. Gauze is more easily placed when slightly wet.
After the teeth are fully isolated, apply GLO lip care on the lips, using a new cotton swab for each application.
Attach orange mixing tip to whitening syringe and ensure it is firmly seated onto dual barrel whitening gel syringe; prior to initial use, bleed a small amount onto bracket tray to ensure even mix.
Use enough whitening gel to visibly see 2-3mm of gel on each tooth surface isolated for whitening. Brush gel across bottom and top teeth.
Align mouthpiece in mouth, one side at a time, so the GLO PRO logo is rightside up; apply additional lip treatment and ensure lips do not come in contact with mouthpiece or whitening gel.
Ask patient to lightly close mouth to secure mouthpiece; patient’s jaw should be closed but relaxed. Teeth should fit directly into mouthpiece for best whitening results.
Start the 8-minute whitening session by pressing the GLO PRO button twice. The first tap will turn on the device and cause the heat indicator to blink. The second tap will activate the mouthpiece which will illuminate and the heat indicator will glow a solid orange.
- Optional: Holding the GLO cheek retractor by the tab, have the patient gently bite down as you insert the small suction between the GLO mouthpiece and cheek.
The 8 light bands around the GLO PRO button will count down the 8-minute session counter clockwise, with one light shutting off at each 60-second interval. The control will blink and beep when the 8 minutes are complete. The mouth-piece light will shut off, although it will continue warming in preparation for the next 8-minute session.
At the end of the 8-minute application, gently remove mouthpiece and use a surgical suction to remove whitening gel from the mouthpiece and teeth. Wipe enamel with clean dry cotton roll before every application to ensure next gel application fully contacts enamel.
Confirm gingival barrier is still intact; wipe mouthpiece of any residual H2O2 gel. Check soft tissue/lips and add more lip treatment. Switch out folded cotton roll under tongue for a new dry roll.
Reapply GLO professional whitening gel to all teeth; for best results, prior to reapplying the whitening gel, always bleed the syringe tip for freshly mixed gel.
Press the GLO PRO button to start the second 8-minute whitening session; the mouthpiece will illuminate. When the session is complete, double tap the GLO PRO button to shut off the device. It will also automatically shut off after 5 minutes of no use.
After final application, remove gel, barrier, and retractor; have patient rinse thoroughly.
Take final shade of teeth and note in chart; photograph patient’s smile with and without matching shade tab; compare with initial shade and share with the patient.
Give the patient their At Home Teeth Whitening Kit for continued whitening and maintenance at home between appointments.
Important Tips to Ensure Optimal Clinical Outcomes
(1) (22)
TAKE A SHADE
Make sure your shade guide is properly arranged from light to dark.
- Bleach Shade
- Light Start Shade
- Medium Start Shade
- Dark Start Shade
(5) (7)
AIR DRY
Before applying gingival barrier, dry the teeth and gums to ensure that the
gingival barrier adheres properly. Gingival barrier should be applied first to
gingival margin and then the attached gingiva.
(11) (19)
GEL COVERAGE
Use enough whitening gel to visibly see 2-3mm of gel on each tooth surface
isolated for whitening. Brush gel across bottom and top of teeth.
(17) (18)
REMOVE REMAINING GEL
At the end of each application, suction away any remaining whitening gel with
surgical suction and use a clean, dry cotton roll to wipe the enamel clean.
This ensures fresh gel will come in full contact with enamel for the next
application.

Cleaning & Care
Autoclavable Illuminating Heat Mouthpiece
- After each patient whitening treatment, rinse and wipe the mouthpiece clean prior to autoclave sterilization.
- For best results, place in autoclave bag and sterilize alone (without other instruments or materials). Autoclaving together with other tools may lead to discoloration.
- Adhering to proper sterilization protocols is the responsibility of the clinician and practice.
Power Control & Charging Base
- The control and base may be cleaned with a dry (or damp) cloth.
- DO NOT SUBMERGE THE CONTROL OR BASE IN ANY LIQUID.
- Avoid wetting the electrical receptacles for the power cable and mouthpiece cable.
Storage
- Keep the control charging in the base when not in use.
- Store the sterilized mouthpiece in the autoclave bag until ready for use.
Maintenance and Calibration
Other than cleaning and charging, the control and mouthpiece do not require any maintenance or calibration.
FAQs and Troubleshooting
How many times can I autoclave the mouthpiece?****
The mouthpiece has been tested to exceed 25 autoclave cycles of 20 minutes each at 121 °C / 250 °F. You can continue to autoclave it until visual inspection indicates that it should be replaced.
How can I tell the difference between the regular whitening mouthpiece and the PRO POWER+ autoclavable mouthpiece?****
The PRO POWER+ autoclavable mouthpiece is frosted and has a dark gray cord. This is the only mouthpiece that will work with the PRO POWER+ control.
Is the mouthpiece case autoclavable?****
No, the mouthpiece case is not autoclavable.
Will the light from the mouthpiece or control affect my skin?****
No, there is no UV light component. The light is 470 nm wavelength (blue) generated by LEDs in the Mouthpiece.
Should my patient bite down on the mouthpiece when it is inside the mouth?****
Yes, the patient should gently bite down, maintaining relaxed lips and jaw.
How long will the control battery last when fully charged?****
A fully charged PRO POWER+ control can power 18-20 8-minute whitening sessions or up to 10 complete patient whitening treatments of two 8-minute applications each.
What do I do if I need to pause a patient’s application?****
Do not unplug mouthpiece while the device is on. Simply press the GLO PRO button to turn off the mouthpiece illumination and stop the timer and then remove the mouthpiece from the patient’s mouth.
Can I use the device while it is charging?****
No. For your safety, the control will not turn on while charging.
What do I do if the mouthpiece will not light up?****
Your device will ONLY work when the correct PRO POWER+ mouthpiece (with the dark gray cord) is securely attached to the charged control. Check to be sure you are using the correct mouthpiece and that it is securely plugged in to your charged control.

Safety & Efficacy
Contraindications
Research has not evaluated all possible effects of whitening treatment on all patient types. The following whitening candidates should consult a medical doctor before use:
- Pregnant and lactating women
- Those currently undergoing treatment for a serious illness or disorder (e.g. immune compromised, AIDS, etc.)
- Children under the age of 12
Patients who may be more susceptible to sensitivity are those with known hypersensitivity, untreated caries, exposed root surfaces, defective restorations, oral tissue injury, untreated periodontal disease, sunburnt lips/frequent sun exposure.
Safety Precautions & First Aid Instructions
Wear suitable protective clothing and eyewear.
Avoid contact of the whitening gel with soft tissue and salivary flow.
Soft tissue and root surfaces must be isolated and protected with light cured gingival barrier. Improper isolation may result in burning or irritation of gingiva/soft tissue and swollen lips due to hydrogen peroxide contact.
Keep out of reach of children, in a cool place, and away from combustible material.
Wait 7 days after whitening to place bonded restorations. Patients with porcelain fused metal crowns, amalgams, lingual bars or implants may feel heat.
Hydrogen peroxide whitening gel should not be swallowed. If a small amount is accidentally ingested, patient should rinse mouth thoroughly and drink fluids.
Contact a Poison Information Center or medical doctor at once if large quantity is swallowed. Provide ingredient label if possible. Do not induce vomiting and immediately give glass of water.
If Hydrogen Peroxide gel gets into eyes, hold eyes open, flush continuously with water for 15 minutes.
If contact occurs between whitening gel and soft tissue, rinse affected area and apply vitamin e and aloe lip care.
Oral Exam
An oral exam is recommended to ensure that there are no underlying oral health conditions which may disqualify the patient as a whitening candidate. Clean teeth, preferably following a prophylaxis, will respond best to the whitening treatment.
