HANNA instruments HI6421 Advanced Dissolved Oxygen Benchtop Meter
The HI6421 is a benchtop meter designed to measure dissolved oxygen in water samples. The package contents include the benchtop meter, a probe, an arm holder, a power cable, and various accessories such as a smart cap, O-ring, syringe, sachet with grease, purified water, lens wipe, zero oxygen solution, and calibration beakers.

Getting Started
- Place the arm holder in position and plug in the probe.
- Connect the power cable to the meter and plug it into the mains.
- Press the ON/OFF button to start the meter.
- Remove the transparent film that protects the capacitive touchscreen before using the meter.
Operating Language & Access to Support
The benchtop meter uses the device name as the default user name and does

Device Handling & Safety Precautions
Always use the intended cable and USB drive. Avoid getting grease or
fingerprints onto the optical window. Handle the smart cap with care and align
the cutout arrow on the cap with the guide on the probe body.
Product Usage Instruction
Probe Usage Guidelines & Calibration Tips
- Remove the shipping cap from the probe.
- Slide the O-ring on the probe tip without rolling or twisting it.
- Use a syringe to sparingly lubricate the O-ring with grease.
- Place the smart cap onto the probe body until it snaps in place.
- Hydrate the cap by placing the probe in purified water for at least 2 hours before use.
Measurement Tips
Wipe off any droplets on the probe and avoid measuring beyond the smart
cap.
Logging in & Creating a New Account
- Power the meter and tap the screen.
- Tap the Home key followed by the Menu key.
- Tap Edit Users to enter Account Management.
- Tap to enable Account Creation and Logins. Tap to return.
- Tap Logout to enter the Users screen and tap the plus symbol avatar.
- Input the user name and tap OK. Enter the password and tap OK. Re-enter the password to confirm.
The HI6421 conforms to CE European Directives and UK Standards, and our production facilities are ISO 9001 certified. The meter is warranted for two years and the probe for six months against defects in workmanship and materials when used for their intended purpose and maintained according to instructions.

Getting started
Identify the base plate (1) – to be attached to the L or the R side – and mounting screw (2) and proceed as illustrated here.
With the arm holder (3) in position and the probe (4) plugged in, connect the power cable (5) and plug into the mains. Press the ON/OFF button (6) to start. Remove the transparent film that protects the capacitive touchscreen prior to operating the meter.
Operating language & Access to support
- At first power on default, the operating language is English. Browse the language window and select an operating language from the list of supported options.
- To access support, tap and select .
On first access, the benchtop’s name is used as the default user name and no password is required.
Device handling & Safety precautions
- Transport the unit with all cables removed.
- Do not puncture the capacitive touchscreen.
- Do not insert objects into the ports, or spaces around keys other than the intended cable, or USB drive.

Probe usage guidelines & Calibration tips
Accesories:
Smart Cap and O-ring, syringe and sachet with grease, purified water, lens
wipe, zero oxygen solution, calibration beakers
- Remove the shipping cap.
- Slide the O-ring on the probe tip. Do not roll or twist the O-ring.
- Use a syringe to sparingly lubricate the O-ring with grease. Avoid getting grease or fingerprints onto the optical window.
- Align the cutout arrow on the Smart Cap with the guide on the probe body.
- Press the Smart Cap onto the probe body until it snaps in place. Handle the cap with care!
- Place the probe in purified water for a minimum of 2 hours to hydrate the Cap before use.
Calibration tips
- Ensure the probe is correctly plugged in.
- Rinse with purified water prior to calibration and shake water droplets off the probe.
- 100% saturation calibration: pour some water into supplied calibration beaker, just enough to moisten the sponge at the bottom of the beaker. Screw the beaker onto the probe. Allow 15 minutes for air to become water saturated.
- 0% saturation calibration: pour HI7040 zero oxygen solution into a beaker and stir gently for 2-3 minutes. Gently tap the probe to dislodge any air bubbles.
- Wait for stable reading to calibrate.
Measurement tips
- Work with recently calibrated probes.
- Set Salinity value if measuring ocean or brackish water samples.
- Carefully lower the probe into sample so no trapped air bubbles at the Smart Cap.
