Precautions

Damage

  • Please inspect the unit for damage after unpacking. If it is damaged in any way do not operate the unit and consult your dealer.

Power connection and accessibility

  • Do not handle the power cord with wet hands as it may cause an electric shock. If the power plug does not fit into your outlet, do not force the plug into an electrical socket. Switch off the unit completely before unplugging. Disconnect the power cord if it is not used for a long time. Ensure that the power plug is always easily accessible. Do not attach extension cables.

Power source

  • Ensure that the unit is plugged into an AC 100-240V 50/60Hz power outlet. Using higher voltage may cause the unit to malfunction or even catch fire.
    Fused moulded power plug (non rewireable) – UK, Malta, Cyprus and Ireland only.

  • The power lead on this equipment is supplied with a plug incorporating a 3 Amp fuse. The value of the fuse is indicated on the pin face of the plug and if it requires replacing, a fuse approved to BS1362 of the same rating must be used.

Power cord protection

  • Do not damage the power cord, do not place any heavy objects on it, do not stretch it or bend it. Damage to the power cord can result in fire or electric shock. If the power cord is damaged, it must be replaced.

Child safety

  • Always follow basic safety precautions when using this product, especially when children are present. Children should be supervised to ensure that they do not play with the product.

Location

  • When in use this product should be placed on a flat, stable surface with no part of the main unit overhanging an edge.

Insertion hazards

  • Slots and openings in the cabinet are provided for ventilation and to ensure reliable operation of the product protecting it from overheating. These openings must not be blocked or covered.
    Ensure a minimum distance of 5 cm around the product for sufficient ventilation. Never let anyone push anything into holes, slots or any other openings in the product’s casing as this could result in an electric shock.

Heat and operating temperature

  • Do not place near any heat sources such as radiators, heat registers, stoves, or other apparatus (including amplifiers) that produce heat. Avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight.

Naked flames

  • To prevent the risk of fire, keep candles or open flames away from this product.

Storms and lightning

  • Storms are dangerous for all electric products. If the power is struck by lightning, the product might get damaged, even if it is turned off. You should disconnect all the cables and connectors of the product before a storm.

Power cable

  • Do not damage, stretch, bend or place heavy objects on the power cable.

Damage

Maintenance

  • Unplug the power cable from the power source before cleaning the product. Use a soft and clean cloth to clean the outside of the unit. Never clean it with chemicals or detergent.

  • This product does not contain any parts that are serviceable by the user. Exposing the internal parts inside the device may endanger your life. In case of a fault, contact the manufacturer or authorised service department. The manufacturers guarantee does not extend to faults caused by repairs carried out by unauthorised third parties.

Caution:
Epilepsy warning

  • Before using the strobe light, check if nearby persons are vulnerable to rapid flashing light. If present, do not use the strobe light.
  • Certain people with epilepsy and photo-sensitivity may suffer a seizure if exposed to flashing or strobe lighting.

Caution:
Prevention of hearing loss or damage

  • XParty Street Beat PS-949 is capable of generating excessive sound pressure levels (SPL) sufficient to cause permanent hearing loss or damage. Caution should be taken to avoid prolonged exposure to excessive (>85dB) SPL.

Built-in battery care

  • Your product is powered by a built-in rechargeable battery.
  • The battery can be charged and discharged hundreds of times, but will eventually wear out.
  • Unplug the product when not in use.
  • Do not leave a fully charged battery connected to a power outlet, it may shorten its lifetime.
  • If left unused, a fully charged battery will lose its charge over time.
  • Leaving the product in hot or cold places, such as in a closed car in the summer and winter conditions, will reduce the capacity and lifetime of the battery.
  • Always try to store your device in a cool, moisture-free environment that’s less than 32°C.
  • If you plan to store your device for longer than six months, charge the battery to 50% every six months to keep it fresh. Store the device at temperatures between 5 °C and 20 °C.

Battery warning

  • The battery used in this product may present a risk of fire or chemical burn if mistreated.
  • Do not attempt to open the product to replace the battery, it is not designed to be changed by the user.
  • Batteries may explode if damaged.
  • Do not expose batteries to high temperatures or excessive radiant heat.
  • Do not drop the product or subject to strong physical shock.
  • Please dispose of battery pack correctly by following the guidance in this manual (see section “Disposal of equipment and batteries”). Do not throw them into fire, do not disassemble them, they could leak or explode.

Disposal of equipment and batteries
This product does not contain any parts that are serviceable by the user.
Electronic products and batteries should not be mixed with general household waste. Household users should contact either the retailer where they purchased this product, or their local government office for details of where and how they can take these items for environmentally safe recycling.
The batteries should be removed by an authorized Sharp service centre and disposed according to local regulations.
Do not dispose as household waste or in a fire as they may explode.
This symbol means that the product contains batteries covered by European Directive 2013/56/EU which cannot be disposed of with normal household waste. Cd, Hg and Pb underneath the wheelie bin symbol shows whether the battery contains, cadmium (Cd), mercury (Hg) or lead (Pb).

Controls

  1. Phone/tablet holder slot

  2. Press the button to skip to the next playing track.
    Long press to fast forward the current track. Bluetooth and USB only.

  3. Press the button to play or pause the playback.
    Bluetooth and USB only.

  4. Press the button to skip to the previous playing track.
    Long press to fast rewind the current track. Bluetooth and USB only.

  5. Press to change input volume for Mic 1.
    Press to select Mic 1 (for volume adjustment).

  6. Press to change input volume for Mic 2.
    Press to select Mic 2 (for volume adjustment).

  7. Duo Mode /TWS
    Press to initiate Duo Mode pairing.
    Long press the button to disconnect the Duo Mode connection.

  8. REVERB
    Press to turn on and cycle reverb on/off options for inputs.
    Long press to turn off for all inputs.
    Turn the control knob to change the reverb level.
    NOTE:
    – Applies only for Mic 1 and 2 inputs

  9. SUPER BASS
    Press to boost the bass. Press again to turn off.

  10. Press to mute the sound. Press again to unmute sound.

  11. EQ
    Press to cycle through preset EQ options.
    POP, DANCE, ROCK, LIVE, CLUB and FLAT.

  12. DJ FX
    Press 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 to play the DJ effect.
    NOTE: There are 12 effects available on the XParty Street Beat. You can use the Sharp Life App to assign your favourite 6 effects to the button of your choice.

  13. Control Knob
    Rotate to adjust the volume level or selected parameter.
    Parameters are:
    Mic 1 Volume.
    Mic 2 Volume.
    Reverb level.

  14. Press to select the mode (Bluetooth©, Aux-in, USB).

  15. Press to turn the strobe light ON/OFF.
    Long press to activate the “Strobe Blast” effect for five seconds.

  16. Long press to turn the power ON/OFF.

  17. LED light effects. Press to cycle through:
    Rollerz, Glow, Infinity, Blink, Club, Prism and Lights Out.
    NOTE:
    – You can use the Sharp Life App to preview and select the light effect.

LCD panel
(Refer to 2 on page 1).

  1. Displayed when Bluetooth mode is active.
    Flashes when in Bluetooth Pairing mode.

  2. Displayed when Bluetooth or USB is playing.

  3. Displayed when Bluetooth or USB is paused.

  4. DUO
    Displayed when Duo Mode is active.
    Flashes when Duo Mode is pairing.

  5. USB
    Displayed when USB mode is active.

  6. AUX
    Displayed when AUX mode is active.

  7. Displayed when a device is connected to the Mic 1 input.
    Icon flashes when the reverb effect is turned on for Mic 1.

  8. Displayed when a device is connected to the Mic 2 input.
    Icon flashes when the reverb effect is turned on for Mic 2.

  9. REVERB
    Displayed when Reverb is set to ON.
    The Reverb effect is only applied to the MIC inputs.

  10. Displayed when the speaker is muted.

  11. Displays the battery charge level.
    Flashes when being charged.
    Does not flash when fully charged.

  12. Displays the parameter value of the operation being conducted.

Using your XParty Street Beat

Power connection / charging the speaker
This speaker uses a built-in Lithium-ion battery pack. Before using it, charge the battery by connecting the power cable and charge the speaker for a minimum of four hours.
Risk of product damage! Ensure that the power supply voltage corresponds to the voltage printed on the back of the speaker. Connect the power cable to the ~AC power input of the speaker and then insert the plug in to a mains power socket.
The LCD panel will indicate the party speaker is charging with a flashing battery icon. When the battery is full, the battery icon will stop flashing and show three segments.

Phone/tablet holder
(Refer to 1, point 1).
The XParty Street Beat has a holder in which to securely place a mobile device.
Ensure any device placed is secured by positioning as deeply into the holder as possible.
NOTE:
– If your mobile device is not held securely please do not use the holder.
Sharp will not be held responsible for any damage caused to devices as a result of using the holder.
Power On
Long press the button for 2 seconds to turn on.
To turn the speaker off, long press the button for 2 seconds.
Volume and Mute control
To adjust the volume of the party speaker, turn the Control Knob clockwise to increase the volume and anti-clockwise to decrease the volume.
The LCD display shows the current volume: 0-30
NOTE:
– The Control Knob default action is volume control
To mute all audio output, press the on the control panel. To unmute, press again or rotate the Control Knob.
Bluetooth mode
Before you stream music over Bluetooth, you first need to pair your Bluetooth enabled device to the speaker.
NOTES:

  • The operational range between this speaker and a Bluetooth device is approximately 10 metres (without any object between the Bluetooth device and the speaker).
  • Any obstacle between this speaker and a Bluetooth device can reduce the operational range.
  • Before you connect a Bluetooth device to this speaker, ensure you know the capabilities of the device.
  • Compatibility with all Bluetooth devices is not guaranteed.
  • If the connection is lost, follow the instructions below to pair your device to the speaker again.
  1. With the unit powered on, press the button on the unit to select Bluetooth mode. < BLUETOOTH> will scroll across the LCD Display and the Bluetooth icon will flash.

  2. Activate your Bluetooth device and select the search mode. “XParty PS-949” will appear on your Bluetooth device list.

  3. Select “XParty PS-949“. An audio prompt will sound when it has been successfully connected.

  4. After successful connection, the display will briefly show .
    NOTE:
    – The speaker will attempt to automatically connect itself to the last audio output device connected via Bluetooth. If this is not possible, the speaker sends its device identification via Bluetooth and the Bluetooth icon will flash on the display.

  5. To disconnect an active Bluetooth connection, press the button to switch to another mode, or press and hold the when on Bluetooth mode.

Wirelessly stream music via Bluetooth
In Bluetooth mode, you can wirelessly stream audio through the party speaker. Use the controls on your paired Bluetooth device as well as those on the speaker.
Controls available:

  • Press to skip forward to the next track. Long press to fast forward.
  • Short press to play/pause.
  • Press to skip backwards to the previous track. Long press to fast rewind.

NOTE:
– If the party speaker is inactive for 15 minutes, or no audio signal is being received, the party speaker will power down.
Duo Mode: True Wireless Stereo (TWS)
This allows for two XParty Street Beat speakers to be connected together as left and right stereo speakers.
The first connected speaker is the primary one (LEFT CHANNEL) and the other will be the secondary (RIGHT CHANNEL).
To begin the pairing process, proceed as follows:

  1. Power on both XParty Street Beat speakers. Ensure that there are no existing Bluetooth connections on both speakers.
  2. Press the TWS button on the top panel of the first speaker. This should be the speaker you want as the LEFT CHANNEL. The display will show and the DUO icon will flash.
  3. Press the TWS button on the second speaker. This should be the speaker you want as the RIGHT CHANNEL.
  4. The two speakers will pair with each other automatically within a few seconds. Once successfully paired, the first speaker will display and the second speaker will display . This confirms that the two units are in Duo Mode.
  5. In TWS mode, only the LEFT CHANNEL speaker can be connected to via your Bluetooth device.

NOTES:

  • After pressing the TWS button on the first unit, you will have 25 seconds to press the TWS button on the the second unit. If you are not able to achieve this, the first unit will exit TWS pairing mode. Pressing TWS after this time on the second unit will begin the process again but the second unit will be the LEFT CHANNEL.

  • If two speakers have already been paired, Duo Mode / TWS will reconnect automatically when both speakers are powered on.

  • When in Duo Mode, only the Bluetooth from the LEFT CHANNEL will be shared. Input from Mic 1 and Mic 2 on both speakers will remain local to that speaker.

  • AUX is not available on the RIGHT CHANNEL

  • Controls shared between speakers in Duo Mode are:
    Volume control
    Play and Skipping
    Disco Lights
    Strobe Lights
    EQ
    Super Bass
    Power ON/OFF

  • To disconnect from another speaker in Duo Mode / TWS, press and hold the TWS Button. This will disconnect the paired speaker and also the paired Bluetooth Device. Press and hold the TWS button again to reconnect all devices.

  • The maximum distance between two speakers is 10 metres.

AUX mode
The XParty Street Beat can be used to listen to audio from external devices.

  1. Connect an auxiliary audio device to the unit via the 3.5mm Audio lnput.
  2. Press the button until the LCD display shows .
  3. Play and control music on the source audio device.

NOTES:

  • In Duo Mode, only the LEFT CHANNEL speaker can be connected to via your AUX device for playback.
  • Audio played on the left channel will not play on the right channel whilst in Duo Mode.

Mic/Guitar operation
The XParty Street Beat can support two microphones, guitars or other 6.3mm TRS audio inputs.
WARNING:

  • Before connecting a device to Mic 1 or Mic 2, ensure the volume on the XParty Street Beat is low.
  • This will avoid any sudden feedback or loud noise from the speaker when, for example, turning on the microphone or if the volume on the guitar is set to high.
  • Whilst using microphones, ensure there is adequate distance between the microphones and the speaker to avoid feedback.

Using a microphone, guitar or other audio input

  1. Plug the 6.3 mm jack into the Mic 1 or 2 socket. If you have another device, insert this into the remaining socket.
  2. To control the speakers output volume of the devices, press the corresponding or button on the control panel and rotate the Control Knob to adjust the volume until you reach the desired output level.

Reverb
You can add a reverb effect to devices connected to Mic 1 or Mic 2 inputs
and adjust how much of the effect is applied.

  1. To turn reverb on for Mic 1, short press (<1 second) the reverb button. The icon will flash on the LCD display.
  2. Turn the Control Knob to adjust the reverb level from to .
  3. To turn reverb on for both Mic 1 and Mic 2 inputs, short press (<1 second) the reverb button 2 times in a row. The and icons will flash on the LCD display.
  4. To turn reverb off, long press (>2 seconds) the reverb button.

NOTES:

  • The reverb effect is only applied to the Mic inputs and is set at 50% as default.
  • If the reverb level % value was changed and then reverb turned off, the value will be saved.
  • If reverb is turned on for both Mic 1 and 2, the level of effect is the same for both inputs.

USB mode and charging functions
(Refer to 3 , 4 on page 1).
The speaker can support USB playback and charging.
USB playback

  1. Insert the USB device into USB input that has the symbol.
  2. Press the button to switch to the USB mode. < USB> will scroll across the LCD display.
  3. The stored music will start playing. You can use the and buttons to control playback.

USB charging

  1. Mobile devices can be charged via the USB charging port (5V, 1A).

NOTES:

  • All compatible audio files will play automatically.
  • Files are played in order based on their folder locations and in alphanumeric order.
  • If you want to play files in a specific order, ensure your files are in the root folder. Make sure the file name begins with the number in the order you want the files to play in.
  • The maximum USB flash disk size is 128GB. Disks greater in capacity will not work.
  • When playing back audio via USB, ensure you connect your USB device to the USB input that has the symbol.
  • When charging a device, ensure you connect the device to the USB Charging port (5V, 1A).
  • In Duo Mode, only the LEFT CHANNEL speaker can be connected to your USB device for playback.
  • Audio played on the left channel will not play on the right channel whilst in Duo Mode.

EQ, Super Bass, Disco lights and DJ FX

Adjust the EQ
You can adjust the EQ of the speaker with pre-loaded equalizer settings for popular music types.

  1. Press the EQ button repeatedly to select the EQ effect:
    POP, DANCE, ROCK, LIVE, CLUB and FLAT.
    The LCD display will show the selected EQ.

NOTES:

  • In Duo Mode You can adjust the EQ using the EQ button on either the LEFT or RIGHT unit.
  • To get the best results and if available, make sure your source device has the EQ set to “flat” or “off”. Not all devices have EQ.

Super Bass
You can enhance the bass performance with the Super Bass function.
Press the SUPER BASS button to turn on, will be displayed on the LCD display.
To turn off, press SUPER BASS again, will be displayed on the LCD display.
Disco lights
You can adjust the light effect of the speaker unit.

  1. Press the button repeatedly to select the light effect:
    ROLLERZ, GLOW, INFINITY, BLINK, CLUB, PRISM and LIGHTS OUT. The LCD display will show the selected effect. You can preview each disco light within the Sharp Life App.

Strobe light

  1. Press the button to turn on the strobe light. Press again to turn off.
  2. Press and hold the button to enable a 5-second strobe blast.

NOTE:

  • In Duo Mode you can adjust the disco light and strobe light using either the LEFT or RIGHT unit.

EPILEPSY WARNING

  • Before using the strobe light, please check if nearby persons are vulnerable to rapid flashing light. If present, do not use the strobe light.
  • Certain people with epilepsy and photo-sensitivity may suffer a seizure if exposed to flashing or strobe lighting.

DJ FX
Buttons 1-6 allow you to quickly play a variety of DJ effects.
The DJ effects can be activated whilst the party speaker is in any mode.
There are 12 effects loaded into the XParty Street Beat. You can use the Sharp Life App to assign any effect to the button of your choice.

Using your unit outdoors

The XParty Street Beat can be used outdoors with its IPX4 rated splash resistance.SHARP PS-949 Portable Party Speaker -

You can download the Sharp Life App onto your smart device.
The app allows full control of the XParty Street Beat.
You can play any of the 12 DJ FX and assign your favourites to the control panels buttons (1 to 6), change or preview the disco lights, change the source input or even control the volume.
To pair the app to the XParty Street Beat, do the following:

  1. Initial set up
    If you’re connecting to the app for the first time, but have previously connected a device to play audio via Bluetooth, you will need to disconnect your Bluetooth device.
    To disconnect the Bluetooth connection, press and hold the button when on Bluetooth source.

  2. Scan the QR code below to download the app. The app is compatible with most iOS and Android systems.

  3. Once downloaded, open the app and register an account (if not already completed).

  4. Once registered, return to the home screen. Click on “Add Device”.
    Your device will scan automatically for the XParty Street Beat.

  5. Once the XParty Street Beat is found, tap the + symbol to begin the pairing process.

When pairing is complete, tap the device icon and the XParty Street Beat interface will load.SHARP PS-949 Portable Party Speaker - XParty Street
Beat

The interface mirrors the top panel of the XParty Street Beat whilst allowing access to additional features.
To assign a new DJ FX to the physical buttons, for example:

  1. Press and hold one of the DJ FX buttons on the app.
  2. Select from the pop up list a DJ FX you would like to add to the button.
  3. The selected DJ FX is now assigned to that button.

– You can only pair the XParty Street Beat to one Sharp Life account at a time.
Factory reset
Long press the EQ button to reset the unit to factory settings.
Upon a successful reset, the LCD will display .
NOTE:
– Please note your DJ FX will return to their factory positions if you have changed them via the app.

Troubleshooting

To keep the warranty valid, never try to repair the system yourself. If you encounter problems when using this unit, review the following before requesting service
No power
Ensure that the AC cord is properly connected and/or the battery is fully charged. Ensure that there is power at the AC outlet.
No sound
Increase the volume. Turn the volume Control Knob clockwise.
Turn the mute function off.
Check the volume on the connected device is not at zero or mute.
Check you are on the correct source for your device.
Check you have placed a media USB into the correct USB port.
I hear buzzing or humming
Ensure all cables and wires are securely connected. Connect a different source device (mobile device if Bluetooth, media player if Aux, etc) to see if the buzzing persists. If it does not, the problem may be with the original device. Connect your device to a different input if the device allows.
I can’t find the Bluetooth name of this unit on my Bluetooth device
Ensure the Bluetooth function is activated on your Bluetooth device.
Re-pair the unit with your Bluetooth device.
No sound from my microphone
Check the microphone has the switch set to “on”.
Check the Mic volume on the XParty Street Beat is above zero for the mic you are using.
Check the mic is input into Mic1 or Mic2 inputs correctly.
Can’t connect to the Sharp Life App
Ensure you have cleared all Bluetooth connections prior to connecting to the app.
If in doubt, reset the unit by long pressing the EQ button to reset to factory settings.
