Wood-fired Outdoor Pizza Ovens
This age-old tradition is the way pizza has been made since the beginning of pizza. With today’s technologies wood-fired pizza ovens are both fuel efficient and portable. In nearly the same amount of time it takes to preheat, and cook a pizza using an indoor oven, you can experience authentic Italianstyle brick oven pizza right in your own backyard. Manufacturers build wood pizza ovens in two styles: one cozies up the fire beside the pizza, while the other houses fire in a separate compartment below.TA-APPLIANCE-UU-P06A00

Gas Pizza Ovens
A gas-fired pizza oven offers ease-of-use. Like a conventional oven, all you have to do is turn it on. You can still get all the amazing cheesy goodnessof a freshly cooked pizza minus the burning of wood. The flame in these ovens is stationary, and the dome or top of the oven receives the heat first before making its way down the sides to the bottom.TA-APPLIANCE-UU-P06A00-Ooni-

BUYING CONSIDERATIONS

How does a Pizza oven work?
Most well-designed pizza ovens allow you to cook with radiant, convection and conduction heat. Radiant heat comes from the fire itself and from the heated dome and oven floor. Conduction is the type of heat that is transferred between substances that are in direct contact with each other. An example would be heat transferring from the hot cooking floor directly to your pizza or skillet. Convection heat comes from the air as it circulates around the oven dome and passes over your dish.

How much do you plan on cooking in your pizza oven?
Pizza ovens are available in different sizes and configurations so you will want to choose an oven that has the cooking space you desire depending on your cooking needs. Depending on how many pizzas you want to cook at one time will determine capacity needs for you. If you cook smaller meals most of the time then a smaller oven may be better for you. If you are an avid entertainer a larger one may suit better so you can cook multiple pizzas or dishes at once.

Where will you put your pizza oven?
The location of your oven is an important factor, whether indoors or outdoors. If indoors you will need to follow residential regulations. Be sure to check requirements before purchase. The majority of models are suited for outdoor cooking. They are an excellent addition to your entertainment area. Depending on the location and if it is under cover you may need to consider venting the oven’s chimney up through the structure. If you purchase a lightweight portable oven you can move that easily to multiple locations around your backyard or even take it along on a camping trip.

The Cooking Experience
Choosing between wood and gas-fired ovens depends on your lifestyle and needs. Wood burning ovens allow you to have the full traditional cooking experience adding delicious flavours and unique cooked textures to your food. When cooking with wood you will need to add more wood to increase the oven’s temperature. Cooking with wood isn’t always feasible so a gas oven would be a good choice. If you want to maintain longer cooking times gas may be easier as you don’t have to keep adding wood to maintain your heat. Either option will give you that great crispy, cheesy pizza while creating memories with family and friends.

Choosing the best wood for your pizza oven
The best woods for burning in your pizza oven are undoubtedly seasoned and dried hardwoods such as oak, maple, and ash. Hardwoods are usually much denser than softwoods. This means they give off more heat for the same quantity of wood, making them an ideal choice as they can provide the scorching temperatures required by wood-burning pizza ovens. And did you know the type of wood you burn can influence the taste of your pizza, so it’s important to ensure your wood gives out the right kinds of flavours.
