Safety Instructions

Read and understand this manual and all safety signs before using this appliance.
Caution, risk of electric shock.
Photovoltaic modules generate DC current when exposed to sunlight or other light sources. Although a single module produces only low voltage and current, shocks and burns are still a potential hazard. The shock hazard increases as modules are connected in series. Cover the whole front of the module with a dense opaque material such as cardboard when installing and handling the module. Work under dry conditions only.
Make sure you fully understand the instructions before installing the module. Contact a qualified technician if in doubt.
This device can be used by children aged from 8 years and above, and persons with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities or lack of experience and knowledge if they have been given supervision or instruction concerning the use of the device in a safe way and understand the hazards involved. Children shall not play with the device. Cleaning and user maintenance shall not be made by children without supervision.
Never disconnect a module under load.
Install the module horizontally or vertically with the connection box at the top. The solar module should be facing south at an angle of 0-20°. Bear in mind that if the solar module is cast in shadow, its power output will drop considerably. Choose a location for the module with as little shade as possible.
Do not use sharp metal tools or any other tools that can scratch the surface of the module.

Connection

Tips

  • Use suitable connection cables – preferably UV-resistant cables with section 2.5-4 mm² –depending on the length of the cables and the size of the panel. We recommend using the Velleman SOL/SPC3 cables (not included).
  • Connect the negative pole of the panel to the negative pole of the charge controller (not included). Similarly, connect the positive pole of the panel to the positive pole of the charge controller.

General

  • Coat the wires and terminal posts with Vaseline® to protect them from corrosion.
  • Make sure the connection box is tightly closed to prevent moisture from entering.
  • If the solar module is to be mounted in a coastal area, it is extra important to protect the installation from moisture to prevent saltwater corrosion.
