Do you have to have a thermostat with a heat mat?****

You can use the heat mats without the thermostat, but you will run the risk of possibly cooking if you are not careful. Before purchasing your heat mat, consider the conditions you live in.

What thermostat do I need for a heat mat?****

Pulse thermostats should also be avoided with light-emitting heat sources, for the same reasons an on/off thermostat should be avoided. However, they are the best thermostats for use with heat mats, heat cables and ceramic heaters in terms of precision.

Can you connect multiple heat mats to the thermostat?****

As long as all systems that connect to the thermostat do not exceed 15 amps, running multiple leads up the conduit to the thermostat location is completely acceptable.

How long does it take for the heat mat to heat up?****

In general, the better insulated the subfloor the faster the system will heat up, with Heat Mat Underfloor Insulation boards facilitating a very speedy heat-up time of as little as 15 minutes, and un-insulated concrete floors causing the slowest heat-up time.

Where do you put the thermostat sensor on a heat mat?****

No matter which way the heat mat is placed, your thermostat probe should rest on the inside surface, opposite the heat mat. So either on top of the substrate layer or on the inside wall of the terrarium if the mat is stuck up the side or back.

How do you attach a thermostat probe to a heat mat?****

If you’re using a heat mat for a warm hide, place the thermometer probe on top of the substrate directly over the heat mat. In a terrestrial enclosure, place the cool side probe on top of the substrate on the opposite side of the heat source.

What are the different types of thermostat control?****

As the strip heats up, one of the metals expands enough to open the circuit and switch off the heating, cooling the room down.
