Functionality

The digital microscope with its high magnification factor is used for easy examination or handling of very small or fine objects, e.g. for examinations in biology, precision mechanics, or electronics. The integrated object illumination and polariser enable a uniformly illuminated, glare-free observation field. Images can be displayed on the large 12.7 cm colour screen, an external monitor or a computer, or stored on a microSD memory card. It is possible to record single images or video sequences in a resolution of choice. Recordings can be played back either via the internal screen or via USB on a computer,or via HDMI cable or FBAS (jack/cinch cable) on a monitor or TV. The device is powered by an internal, non-replaceable LiIon battery, which is charged via a USB port.

Image analysis on a PC is carried out with dedicated image processing software that allows partial remote control of the microscope as well as storage, precise analysis, and image processing, e.g. by commenting on the created images.

Calibration and measurement function, editing

The programme makes it possible to adapt images taken with the help of the calibration template supplied so that exact measurements can be taken and entered in them. At the same time, the exact determination of the current magnification factor is carried out in the display of the programme.

Calibration

  • First, make sure that the crosshairs are switched on (see menu “Options”).

  • Then, place the calibration template under the microscope and focus on a section of the millimetre scale, as shown in the following image, until the image appears sharp on the PC monitor. Make sure that the lines are exactly parallel/rectangular to the crosshairs in the PC image.

  • Click on the photo symbol; now the picture appears in the image list on the right.

  • Load this image into the measuring and editing interface by double-clicking on it in the image list, which opens in a second window:

    • Save edited image
      • Save image to clipboard
      • Copy image
      • Previous image from clipboard
      • Next image from clipboard
      • Undo
      • Redo
      • Draw in picture
      • Insert text into image
      • Measuring tool
      • Calibrate
  • For an exact detailed view, you can zoom the image with the slider at the bottom.

  • Now, click on the calibration icon and move the mouse pointer into the image.

  • Now draw an exactly horizontal line, e.g. from one calibration line to the next (means 0.5 mm when recording the millimetre scale). The measured distance appears on the line. A dialogue window appears, in which you enter this distance in mm (with a dot, do not use a comma). Then, the calculated magnification appears below and also in the top right-hand corner after clicking on “OK”.

  • Now, open the measuring tool and select the tool “Any Angle Line”.

  • Mark the exact distance again, which you used for the calibration before. If the measured value displayed on the line corresponds approximately to the previously calibrated line, the calibration is complete.

Changing the calibration

  • You can change the magnification rate by recalibrating depending on the object of observation and the change in focus.
  • Open the calibration tool and select the item „Reset Magnification“ and the option “Reset Picture Magnification”.
  • Carry out a new calibration completely as described in the chapter “Calibration”.
  • Change the magnification rate in this way and take some pictures. Load them into the measuring and editing interface again by double-clicking on them in the list of images on the right.
  • Here, you open the calibration tool again and select the item “Set Magnification” as well as the option „Reset Picture Magnification“.
  • In the following dialogue window, enter the current magnification rate, which is accepted after clicking on “OK”.
  • If you want to transfer this magnification rate to other loaded images, open the calibration tool after loading the image into the measuring and editing interface and select the item “Set Capture Magnification” and the option “Set Capture Magnification”.
  • In the following dialogue window, you can now enter the current enlargement rate, which is accepted after clicking on “OK”.
Measurements
  • Open the measuring tool and select the tool you want to use for measurements:
    • Angle: Draw a measurement line by clicking on the starting point, dragging to the end point, and clicking on the end point.
    • Continued line: Draw a measurement section by clicking on the starting pointand dragging to the end point. You can then draw the next partial distance directly from this end point. The length of each section is displayed. Finally, double-click on the end point.
    • Radius: Click on the desired centre point for a measuring circle and drag it up to a desired radius. The radius, circumference, and area of the circle are displayed.
    • Diameter: Click on the desired starting point for a measuring circle and drag it to a desired diameter. The diameter, circumference, and area of the circle are displayed.
    • 3-point angle: Click on the starting point of the angle and drag the first leg to the desired measuring point. From there, continue to drag to the measuring point for the second leg and finish the measurement with a click. The measurement angle between both legs is displayed.
    • Properties/Units: Under these menu items, you can set the properties for lines and text as well as units for the measurements.

Editing

  • With the tool, you can draw or place lines, arrows, freehand drawings, and rectangles in the image
  • The line properties can be selected:DNT000006-Digital-Microscope-UltraZoom-Pro-fig-58
    • With the tool, you can place texts in the image after selecting the font (selection from the fonts and font sizes available on your computer) and the font color.DNT000006-Digital-Microscope-UltraZoom-Pro-fig-60
