nVent RAYCHEM C25-100-METAL Metal Connection Kit
Product Information: Connection Kits for nVent RAYCHEM Heating Cables
The nVent RAYCHEM connection kits, namely C25-100-METAL and C3/4-100-METAL, are designed for use with all nVent RAYCHEM BTV-, QTVR-, XTV-, KTV-, HTV-, VPL-, and FHP-heating cables. These connection kits come with a C1 core sealer that must be installed inside an Ex equipment certified enclosure to prevent electrical shock, short circuit or arcing. These kits are certified for use in hazardous environments and come with several safety warnings and usage instructions.
Usage Instructions
- Read the installation instructions completely before installing the connection kit.
- Ensure that persons involved in the installation and testing of electric heat tracing systems are suitably trained in all special techniques required.
- Installation shall be carried out under the supervision of a qualified person.
- The purchaser should make the manufacturer aware of any external effects or aggressive substances that the equipment may be exposed to.
- Position gland components and grommet on the heating cable in order shown.
- Preinstall braid into braid clamp assembly as follows: Slide cone over inner jacket, spread braid over cone and slide clamp ring over braid and cone. Tighten middle body onto entry body (without grommet) using two spanners to securely lock braid between cone and clamp ring.
- Undo entry body and middle body assembly, remove entry body and slide nylon compression ring as well as grommet onto inner jacket. Replace entry body.
It is important to follow these instructions carefully to ensure the safe installation of the nVent RAYCHEM connection kits and prevent any accidents or hazards.

Installation instruction for connection kits nVent RAYCHEM C25-100-METAL and
C3/4-100-METAL. For use with all nVent RAYCHEM BTV-, QTVR-, XTV-, KTV-, HTV-,
VPL- and FHP-heating cables.
Before installing this product, read the installation instructions completely.
CAUTION: Prolonged or repeated contact with the sealant in the core sealer may cause skin irritation. Wash hands thoroughly. Overheating or burning the sealant will produce fumes that may cause polymer fume fever. Avoid contamination of cigarettes or tobacco. Consult MSDS VEN 0033 for further information.
WARNING: To prevent electrical shock, short circuit or arcing, this
product must be installed correctly and water ingress must be avoided before
and during the installation.
Persons involved in the installation and testing of electric heat tracing
systems shall be suitably trained in all special techniques required.
Installation shall be carried out under the supervision of a qualified person
The purchaser should make the manufacturer aware of any external effects or
aggressive substances that the equipment may be exposed to.
The cable glands shall only be used for fixed installations. The cables must
be fixed to prevent pulling or twisting.
Schedule of Limitations:
The service temperature of the C25-100-METAL / C3/4-100-METAL connection kit
is –60°C to +180°C. When the C25-100-METAL / C3/ 4-100-METAL connection kit is
used, it shall be mounted to an enclosure in accordance with the
manufacturer’s instructions.
The installer is to carry out a dielectric strength test on the Ex equipment
in which the C25-100-METAL / C3/4-100-METAL connection kit is fitted. No
dielectric breakdown shall occur. (Alternatively an insulation resistance test
may be undertaken in accordance with EN 60079-30-2). The integral C1 core
sealer shall be installed inside an Ex equipment certified enclosure.
Position gland components and grommet on the heating cable in order shown.
Preinstall braid into braid clamp assembly as follows:
Slide cone over inner jacket, spread braid over cone and slide clamp ring over
braid and cone. Tighten middle body onto entry body (without grommet) using
two spanners to securely lock braid between cone and clamp ring.
Undo entry body and middle body assembly, remove entry body and slide nylon compression ring as well as grommet onto inner jacket. Replace entry body.
Remove the tubes and dispose of them in the core sealer plastic bag.
Trim bus wires. For length X see table.
Installation of the gland in the enclosure.
Conditions for threaded and unthreaded holes
| Threaded Holes| Unthreaded (through) holes
---|---|---
Tolerance Class| (6H) is required for Ex d and recommended for Ex e is max
6G/6H. Ref. ISO 965-1 and ISO 965-3.| Nominal thread size
M25 –0,0 mm/ +0,7 mm (M).
Enclosure Material Limitations
| Brass glands should not be installed in zinc or aluminium enclosures outdoor
or in humid environments.| Brass glands should not be installed in zinc or
aluminium enclosures outdoor or in humid environments.
Enclosure interface sealing method| If the sealing surfaces are uneven, use
PTFE washer NFWM25 or the green fiber washer GFWM25 (washers to be ordered
separately).| If the sealing surfaces are uneven, use PTFE washer NFWM25 or
the green fiber washer GFWM25 (Washers to be ordered separately).
Maximum surface roughness of the enclosure wall| Ra 6,4µm, better than 3,2µm
is recommended.| Ra 6,4µm, better than 3,2µm is recommended.
Thickness range for the enclosure wall (t)| ≥ 4 mm. For Ex db applications a
minimum of 5 fully engaged threads is required. The thread will maintain an IP
rating of IP64.
A sealing washer shall be used to maintain all IP ratings ≥ IP64.| Minimum
wall thickness: Plastic boxes ≥ 2 mm
Metal boxes ≥ 1 mm but less than the thread length of the cable gland + the
thickness of the locknut.
Perpendicularity| +/–1° or 0,2 mm at the outer edge of the gland, whichever is
smaller.| +/–1° or 0,2 mm at the outer edge of the gland, whichever is
smaller.
Permitted use and location of any earth tags| Earth tags should be installed
on the inside of the enclosure. Thickness of tag and lock nut to be considered
when determining the min/max wall thickness of the box.| Earth tags should be
installed on the inside of the enclosure. Thickness of tag and lock nut to be
considered when determining the min/max wall thickness of the box.
For chamfered holes| The outermost edge must not have a greater diameter than
the center of the washer.| The outermost edge must not have a greater diameter
than the center of the washer.
Lock nuts| Only use nVent RAYCHEM locknuts or other types recommended by the
manufacturer.| Only use nVent RAYCHEM locknuts or other types recommended by
the manufacturer.
- Any thread sealant should be non-hardening.
- It is the users/installers responsibility to ensure that the interface between the enclosure and cable gland is suitably sealed for the required application.
- If required an anti-seize lubricant then ensure no lubricant comes into contact with the cable gland seals as this may impair performance.
Pass prepared heating cable end with core sealer through the box entry. Screw gland body into junction box. For C25-100-METAL, make sure the sealing ring is in place before doing so (use locknut for non-metallic boxes with internal earth plate).
Position grommet in gland body, ensuring it is seated squarely and tighten middle body securely.
Insert grommet for outer seal and tighten backnut. Connect conductors to the appropriate terminals.
