MOUNTING INSTRUCTIONS
Warning!
- We strongly recommend letting an Öhlins dealer install this product.
- If you work with a lifted vehicle, make sure that it is safely supported to prevent it from tipping over.
- Spring compression creates a potential danger because of the violent force that loaded springs are capable of. Beware of this when you work with the front fork.

- When you work with this product, see the vehicle service manual for vehicle-specific procedures and important data.
- Before you install this product clean the vehicle.

Remove the original front fork
Note!
The following procedure applies to both front fork legs.

Put the motorcycle on a work stand so that the front wheel barely touches the ground.
Warning!
Make sure the vehicle is securely supported so that it will not fall over. -
Remove the front fender, brake calipers, speed sensor (if present), and front wheel.

Release main spring preload fully (if present).
-
Note the front fork leg position.
-
Loosen upper triple clamp.
-
Loosen (do not remove) top cap ½ turn.
-
Loosen lower triple clamp.
-
Remove front fork legs from triple clamps.
Disassemble the original front fork
Note!
The following procedure applies to both front fork legs.

Remove the top cap from the outer tube.
-
Slide the outer tube down until it stops.
-
Remove the top cap from the shaft according to instructions in the vehicle service manual.
-
Release pressure from the gas reservoir according to instructions in the vehicle service manual.
-
Remove the main spring and associated parts according to instructions in the vehicle service manual.
-
Drain the front fork leg from suspension fluid.
-
Remove the cartridge from the front fork leg. [04702-04 seal head tool] Note!
If the cylinder tube does not follow the cartridge kit, follow steps 7.1-7.9. -
Remove the outer tube from the inner tube according to instructions in the vehicle service manual.

Install the inner tube tool on an inner tube. Do not place the tool at the sealing or gliding surface.

Soften the thread locker between the inner tube and fork bottom with a heat gun.

Remove the inner tube from the fork bottom.

If the cylinder tube was not removed in step 7, remove the cylinder tube.

Remove and replace o-rings if worn or damaged.

Clean and degrease the inner tube and fork bottom.

Install o-rings. Apply grease on the o-ring.
[00146-01 grease] -
Install the inner tube using the inner tube tool.
Apply Loctite 2700. Tighten to 100-120 Nm.

Note!
To get the correct torque, make sure to place the torque wrench in a
90-degree angle to the Fork tube tool.
Install Öhlins cartridge kit
Note!
The following procedure applies to both front fork legs.
Caution!
The cartridge kit is divided into compression and rebound cartridges. Install
compression cartridge marked “COMP” in left-hand side front fork leg. Install
rebound cartridge marked “REB” in right-hand side front fork leg.

Remove the top cap, spring support, and preload tube.
-
Remove cylinder tube assembly from shaft assembly.
-
Apply Loctite 2400 on the adaptor thread. Apply grease on the cylindrical sealing surface of the adaptor. Install cylinder tube assembly in the front fork leg with an extended hex key. Tighten to 60 Nm.

Fill the gas reservoir with a pressure of approximately 5 bar, according to instructions in the vehicle service manual.

Pour approximately 0.5 liters of Öhlins suspension fluid into the front fork leg.
-
Install the tool on the shaft extension.

Install the tool on the seal head.

Make sure teeth are securely connected to the seal head. -
Compress the top out spring fully and insert the clip. [02810-01 clip] Warning!
If the top-out spring is not completely compressed, adjust the shaft extension tool to achieve complete compression of the top-out spring. -
Insert shaft assembly in front fork leg.
Warning!
Make sure no air is trapped in the piston by carefully pumping the shaft assembly up and down with the piston below the fluid surface. -
Install the shaft assembly and tighten it with your hand.

Remove the clip and shaft extension tool.
-
Tighten the seal head to 30 Nm and remove the seal head tool.
-
Make sure that the shaft assembly and outer tube are in their bottom positions. Set suspension fluid level according to the chapter “Setup Data”.

Install the tool on top of the shaft extension.
Install preload tube (A), main spring (B), and spring support (C) over the shaft extension tool. Select the main spring according to the chapter “Main spring guide”.

Pull up the shaft assembly and grab the spring support with a wrench.

Remove the shaft extension tool.

Make sure that the compression and rebound adjusters are fully open before installing the top cap. Use a hex key to open the compression and rebound adjusters.

Install an O-ring on the top cap. Apply grease on the o-ring and thread.

Install top cap on shaft extension. Tighten to 20 Nm.
[Socket 14 mm] -
Remove the wrench from the spring support.

Pull up the outer tube. Make sure the front fork leg is in a fully extended position. Use the top cap tool to tighten the top cap to the outer tube. Tighten to 10 Nm.[00797-08 top cap tool]

Set compression, rebound, and main spring adjusters according to the chapter “Setup Data”. Use a hex key for compression and rebound adjusters. Use a socket for the main spring preload adjuster.

Install front fork legs in the vehicle at recommended front fork leg position, according to the chapter “Setup data”.

Remaining installation, instructions according to the vehicle service manual.
