Insight 16.5 Software Installation

Overview

The following information describes how to install Stratasys Insight 16.5 application software on PCs running Microsoft Windows 10, Microsoft Windows 8.1, Microsoft Windows 8, or Microsoft Windows Server 2012 R2 for use with Stratasys F900, Fortus 900mc, Fortus 450mc, Fortus 400mc, Fortus 380mc, Fortus 380mc Carbon Fiber Edition, Fortus 360mc, Fortus 250mc, Stratasys F370, Stratasys F370 CR, and Stratasys F770 modelers.
Note: Stratasys maintenance and support for Microsoft Windows 7 ended in January 2020 to coincide with the Microsoft end of support date. Stratasys will no longer ensure that Insight and Control Center work with Windows 7 and will not offer support for operational issues involving Windows 7.
Follow the instructions carefully. If necessary, consult with your system administrator for more detailed information.

Before You Begin

Make sure that your workstation conforms to the “Insight Workstation Requirements” document.

Ensure that you have a working Ethernet connection between your PC workstation and your Stratasys system.

Installing Insight 16.5 from CD

Please note that installation of Insight 16.5 does not require prior versions of Insight to be uninstalled.

  1. Login as the Administrator or as a user with Administrator privileges.

  2. Insert the Insight 16.5 CD into the CD drive.

  3. Run the installation program:
    a) If your computer has autorun enabled, you will see the Insight software installation window appear automatically.
    b) If your computer does not have autorun enabled:
    1) Click on the Start button and pick the Run option; the Run dialog box appears.
    2) In the command line type D:\setup.exe (substitute the letter of your CD drive for “D”)
    -OR
    Click the Browse button. Within the new pop-up navigate to the CD drive and click thesetu.exe file.
    3) Click OK

  4. Follow the instructions as they appear during the installation process. The install program will go through the following steps:
    a) Insight requires multiple Microsoft components. If one or more of the following are not installed a window will open that lists the required packages:
    1) Windows Installer 4.5
    2) Microsoft Visual C++ 2015 Update 3 Redistributable Package (x64)
    3) Microsoft .NET Framework 4.6.2 Full
    b) Click the Install button to continue with the installation of the required Microsoft components,
    which may take several minutes to complete.
    c) After the Microsoft component installation, you may be prompted to restart. Click Yes to restart your workstation and continue the Insight installation.
    d) On the Stratasys Welcome window, click Next to continue
    e) Please read and review the End User License Agreement. Select the option to accept the terms
    of the license agreement and click the Next button.
    f) Enter your User Name and Organization and decide whether you want the Insight application to be available to all users, or just the current user. Click the Next button.
    g) Accept the default installation directory. The default location is: C:\Program Files\Stratasys\Insight 16.5
    – OR –
    Click the Change button and enter a new directory. Click the Next button.
    h) “Other Options” – to install desktop icons for the suite of Insight applications, make sure the checkbox is selected. Click the Next button.
    i) Start Menu shortcuts for Insight are always installed.
    j) “Ready to Install the Program” – Click the Install button.
    k) Click the Finish button after installation is complete.
    Note: After successful installation, it is not necessary to logout or reboot, unless prompted. You can immediately use any of the Insight applications accessible from the Start Menu

Installing Insight from a Shared Network Drive

Use the Windows Explorer to map a drive letter to the shared network folder where the setup.exe file is located. Then follow the directions for the installation from CD described above.

Installing Insight from a Command Prompt

Use a Windows Command Prompt to perform an automated Insight installation without extra button clicks or actions.

  1. Open a Windows Command Prompt.
  2. Change directories to the CD drive, e.g. D: cd d:
  3. Change directories to the x64 folder: cd x64
  4. Enter the following command to launch the automated install: setup /S /V/qr

Stratasys Update Manager

The Stratasys Update Manager is a software utility for updating Fortus system software. The utility supports the Fortus 250mc, Fortus 360mc, Fortus 380mc, Fortus 380mc Carbon Fiber Edition, Fortus 400mc, Fortus 450mc, Fortus 900mc, Stratasys F900, Stratasys F370, Stratasys F370 CR, and Stratasys F770 systems. The utility can be launched by clicking the “Check for System Updates” button on the “Services” tab in Control Center or selecting the “Stratasys Update Manager” shortcut from the Start Menu. The software is also launched automatically when new system software is available.
The Stratasys Update Manager is automatically installed as part of the Insight installation.
Use Stratasys Update Manager to update system software:

  1. Start Stratasys Update Manager from the Windows Start menu, from the Services tab of Control Center, or wait for the automatic notification when an update is available.
  2. Once launched, the Stratasys Update Manager will show all supported Fortus systems that have
    been added in Control Center. If a system can be updated, an “Update” button will be displayed. To apply the update:
    a) Put the Fortus system in “Upgrade” mode.
    b) Next, using the Stratasys Update Manager software, click the “Update” button for that system. The software will then be downloaded and sent to the Fortus system.
    c) When prompted by the Stratasys Update Manager software, reboot the Fortus system

Creating a Network Connection to an FDM System

Use Control Center to create a network connection to an FDM system:

  1. Start Control Center to add a network status connection to one or more FDM systems. Use the Control Center 16.5 desktop shortcut or the Start > All Programs > Insight 16.5 > Control Center 16.5 menu shortcut.

  2. When Control Center is first launched it will attempt to automatically discover and add a network connection to your Fortus system. Control Center will immediately begin reporting status for the system.

  3. If the network discovery of your Fortus system was not successful, the system Name field will be empty. Click the Manage FDM Systems button.

  4. In the FDM Systems window click the Add Manually button to define an FDM system on your network. Provide the system name and the static IP address of the FDM system. Click the Add System button to complete the definition and start collecting system status.

Uninstalling Insight

Use the Control Panel capabilities to uninstall Insight.
Windows 8: Start menu > Windows System > Control Panel > Uninstall a program
Windows 10: Start menu > All apps > Windows System > Control Panel > Uninstall a program Select Insight from the list, where the name matches the version of Insight that you want to uninstall. Click on the Remove or Uninstall button. Various log and modeler files created during Insight use may remain in the folder structure and will need to be manually deleted to finish the uninstall process.
