In the following, we would like to familiarize you with the appliance and provide some useful information about epilation. Please read the use instructions carefully and thoroughly before using the appliance. Braun Silk·épil SoftPerfection Body System has been designed to make the removal of unwanted hair as efficient, gentle, and easy as possible.
Its proven epilation system removes hair at the root, leaving your skin smooth for weeks. With the innovative SoftLift™ tips and the unique arrangement of tweezers, it provides an extra close epilation for perfectly smooth skin, allowing the removal of hairs as short as 0.5 mm as well as flat-lying hairs. As the hair that re-grows is fine and soft, there will be no more stubble.
The high-precision epilation head comes with two different attachments: The 4-way moving pain softener which makes the epilation ultra gentle. Its pulsating movement stimulates and relaxes the skin to offset the pulling sensation. The EfficiencyPro clip provides a thorough epilation that is now even faster. Ensuring maximum skin contact and the optimum usage position, it allows the removal of even more hairs per stroke. The shaver head provides a fast and close shave for a quick retouch of personal body parts.
Important
- This appliance must never be used near water (e.g. a filled wash basin, bathtub, or shower).
- Keep the appliance out of the reach of children.
- When switched on, the appliance must never come in contact with the hair on your head, eyelashes, ribbons, etc. to prevent any danger of injury as well as to prevent blockage or damage to the appliance.
- Before use, check whether your voltage corresponds to the voltage printed on the transformer. Always use the country-specific 12-V transformer plug supplied with the product.
General information on epilation
Silk·épil is designed to remove hair on the legs, but it can also be used on
other sensitive areas like forearms, the underarm, or the bikini line.
All methods of hair removal at the root can lead to ingrown hair and
irritation (e.g. itching, discomfort, and reddening of the skin) depending on
the skin and hair type. This is a normal reaction and should quickly
disappear, but may be stronger when you are removing hair at the root for the
first few times or if you have sensitive skin.
If, after 36 hours, the skin still shows irritation, we recommend that you contact your physician. In general, the skin reaction and the sensation of pain tend to diminish considerably with the repeated use of Silk·épil. In some cases, inflammation of the skin could occur by bacteria penetrating the skin (e.g. when sliding the appliance over the skin). Thorough cleaning of the epilation head before each use will minimize the risk of infection. If you have any doubts about using this appliance, please consult your physician.
In the following cases, this appliance should only be used after prior consultation with a physician:
- eczema, wounds, inflamed skin reactions such as folliculitis (purulent hair follicles) and varicose veins
- around moles
- reduced immunity of the skin, e.g.
- diabetes mellitus, during pregnancy, Raynaud’s disease
- hemophilia or immune deficiency.
Some useful tips
Epilation is easier and more comfortable when the hair is at the optimum length of 2–5 mm (0.08–0.2 in.) If hairs are longer, we recommend that you pre-cut the hair to this length before epilating, using the shaver head with the OptiTrim attachment .8a
When epilating for the first time, it is advisable to epilate in the evening, so that any possible reddening can disappear overnight. To relax the skin we recommend applying a moisture cream after epilation.
Fine hair that re-grows may not grow up to the skin surface. The regular use of massage sponges (e.g. after showering) or exfoliation peelings helps to prevent in-growing hair as the gentle scrubbing action removes the upper skin layer allowing fine hair to get through to the skin surface.

(A) How to epilate
- Your skin must be dry and free from grease or cream.
- Before starting off, thoroughly clean the epilation head 2 .
- Attach the epilation head and make sure that the 4-way moving pain softener 1a is in place.
- Plug cord connector 6 into socket 5 and plug transformer plug 7 into an electrical outlet.

To turn on the appliance, slide switch 4 to setting «2» («2» = normal speed, «1» = reduced speed).

Rub your skin to lift short hairs. For optimum performance hold the appliance at a right angle (90°) against your skin. Guide it in a slow, continuous movement without pressure against the hair growth, in the direction of the switch. The SoftLift™ tips will make sure that even flat-lying hair is lifted and removed thoroughly at the root. As hair can grow in different directions, it may also be helpful to guide the appliance in different directions to achieve optimum results. Both rollers of the 4-way moving pain softener should always be kept in contact with the skin, allowing the pulsating movements to stimulate and relax the skin for a gentler epilation. If you are used to epilation and look for a faster way to efficiently remove hair, please use the EfficiencyPro clip. Placed on the epilation head instead of the 4-way moving pain softener, it allows maximum skin contact and ensures optimum usage so that more hairs are removed in one stroke.

Leg epilation: Epilate your legs from the lower leg in an upward direction. When epilating behind the knee, keep the leg stretched out straight.

Underarm and bikini line epilation: Use tests monitored by dermatologists have revealed that you can also epilate the underarm and the bikini line. Please be aware that these areas are particularly sensitive to pain. With repeated usage, the pain sensation will diminish.
Before epilating, thoroughly clean the area to remove residue (such as deodorants or creams). Carefully dab the area dry with a towel. When epilating the underarm, keep your arm raised up and guide the appliance in different directions. Cleaning the epilation head -
After epilating, unplug the appliance and clean the epilation head: If you have used one of the attachments or 1b , first remove it and clean it with the brush.

Thoroughly clean the tweezer element with the cleaning brush and also with alcohol. While cleaning, you can turn the tweezer element manually. To remove the epilation head, press the release buttons on the left and right and pull it off.

Give the top of the housing a quick clean with the brush.Place the epilation head and the 4-way moving pain softener back on the housing.
(B) Shaving

Remove the OptiTrim attachment 8a. Put on the shaver head by clicking it in (the long hair trimmer should be in front).

When using the shaver head, always slide switch up to setting «2».

For best results, guide the shaving system in a way that about half of the shaving foil and the trimmer are in contact with your skin. Always guide the appliance in the direction of the trimmer. The trimmer first raises all long hairs and cuts them off. Then the flexible foil follows to smooth away any stubble.
Pre-cutting hair for epilation -
When using the shaver head to pre-cut your hair to the ideal length for epilation, put on the OptiTrim attachment.

Hold the appliance with the OptiTrim attachment ensuring that the surface of the comb is lying flat on the skin. Guide the appliance with the comb tips against the hair growth as shown in illustration B5.
Important: As hair does not always grow in the same direction, it may be difficult to cut. In which case, guide the appliance slightly diagonally or in different directions.
Cleaning the shaver head -
After shaving, unplug the appliance and, if necessary, remove the OptiTrim attachment.

Clean the OptiTrim attachment with the brush.

In order to clean the shaver head, remove the shaving foil frame. To do so, press the release bars on the front and back and pull it off.

Carefully tap the shaving foil frame on a flat surface.

Brush out the cutter block as well as the area below the cutter block.

Caution: The shaving foil is a very delicate part that must not be cleaned with the brush.

We recommend that you put a drop of light machine oil along the length of the trimmer every 3 months.

Put the shaving foil frame back on and snap it into place.

Replace the OptiTrim attachment because it also serves as a protective cap.
Caution: Do not use the shaver head with a damaged shaving foil.
Replacing the shaving parts
The shaving foil and the cutter block are precision parts that wear out with the time. Have the shaving foil frame and the cutter block replaced when you notice a reduced shaving performance even after cleaning the shaver head.

FAQ’s
Can you use this on your face?
Last night, I simply stole a small portion to use on my face. Be sure to prepare your skin first, and then just proceed with caution, slowly pulling the skin taut, like you would when waxing. You’ll get used to it even though it does hurt a little. The chin and upper lip are delicate places, and this epilator isn’t small enough to access them with much ease. Even though your face could feel sore and puffy, it will pass overnight. You should be fine if you take proper care of your skin both before and after the procedure.
Is it water-resistant?
The Braun Silk Epil 3 is only used when you are dry because it is a corded device. It is possible to remove the attachment and wash it in water, however, I suggest drying it completely before reusing it.
Is this safe to put on my face?
I have no issues applying this to my face. Exfoliating before and after is something I do advise!
After a haircut, will it remove hair from the back of the neck?
Indeed, short hair looks fantastic with this.
Did the redness and lump by the bikini line lessen with this electric razor?
Our epilators can be used on those delicate locations without any risk (bikini line, underarms, and face). We have a variety of attachments, including a thin underarm head that works well for underarm and bikini line epilation.
Is it ok to apply it to my top lip?
On the rounded, smooth head, yes. I ADORE IT The hairs don’t regrow as quickly or as coarsely.
Do 220 watts work with it?
It does, indeed. Dual voltage, and it runs really fine on 220 volts. I reside outside of the US and it functions properly without a transformer despite what the plug indicates.
How big is the tweezer area, in inches or centimeters?
It has a 1-inch. width.
Is this effective on fine hair? Lasers do not assist with the blond, extremely sparse hair on my legs. Are you also curious about peach fuzz?
